Poor Cam Winnett has taken such a hammering over the past 2 games by some utter bruisers and he hasn’t taken a backward step 💪🏽, so this might be the time to give him some recovery I’d say.

Thanks for your video. I'm swiss and been very lucky to be with the Wales squad when they were in Switzerland for their altitude camps before the world cups in 2015 , 2019 and 2023. I can assure the boys worked really hard. I'm very sad to see they are now in trouble, but hey, don't forget they had a golden generation before with Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, Tipuric, Dan Biggar, and so on.. The squad is very young now, and they don't deserve criticism, in my opinion.. Warren Gatland had to build a new squad from scratch , he has to be supported instead of being criticized. Every team has his ups and downs and I'm sure in 2 or 3 years, Wales will be again where he deserve to be. Cheers from Switzerland. (and sorry for my bad english !)

I am Welshman living in Japan and truth I totally love the way the Boks play,,,,,,and so wish that Rassie was Welsh,,,,,,,but just think about it,,,,,,in the last 18 months or so Wales has lost Alan Wyn Jones, George North, Dan Biggar, Justin Tipuric, Liam Williams Josh Navidi, Talupe Felataue, Ken Owens, Tomos Francis, Lee Halfenny Gareth Davies...........and Josh Adams and Tomos Williams and a couple of others are out injured,,,,,,Take those caps, that experience and lets be honest ......quality out of the Boks..............What would occur? It puts things into perspective. Oh, I have no doubt that the SAFFAS will win........The rugby they play is truly sublime.......but take out Eben, Niche, Siya, Cheslin and DDA..........may they too not struggle?

    • @averageyoutubeuser5537
      @averageyoutubeuser5537 7 дней назад +1

Thats probably what Rassie was thinking, that is why he has heavily rotated the squad throughout the year - this weekend there will have been 52 players that have played a game for the Springboks, and they have only lost 2 games this year, each by one point. Rassie is preparing for the day when the experienced guys are not available.

Great to see support for the players! Feel for costelow, 10 is the hardest position in Wales for criticism look at biggs and players before him, he deffo needs confidence to bring out his best like at u20s. Don't see anyone in that squad really staking a claim to the 10 Jersey so hope people get behind him. Would prefer to see Eddie James at 12 would make a difference, you need that size and speed at international level especially against the boks monsters in midfield. Modern game most of the top countries have a solid 12 who can make meters.

So, this is my BIG issue with Gats. He seems to refuse to notice when some people play badly. These are my thoughts (and I actually like them all as players).
    1. Rowlands is struggling
    2. Tshiunza had a poor game
    3. Rhodri looked better than Bevan
    4. Ben Thomas isn’t performing
    5. Assirati isn’t producing
All of the above seem to have been ignored.
And, for those blaming the WRU, there isn’t a single country that backs their governing body. It’s always the case. It’s the coaching team that makes the difference. I mean, are people saying that Gatland should stay in for the 10-20 years that it takes the WRU to rebuild the entire game in Wales?

Sam Costelow and I went to the same school (though not at the same time) so I've always hoped he'd come good for Wales. While he may not be the answer for the No. 10 shirt, in the absence of anyone demonstrably better, I'm not sure there's much he can do. My fear is that his confidence will be so badly shaken that he may never recover at the international level.

  • @olibedford
    @olibedford 7 дней назад +3

I can’t see an argument for not sacking Gatland.
I’m not deluded and don’t expect any wales side to compete against the Boks this weekend but he’s failed us with this squad and many things he’s done recently.
Jarrod should have been picked and taken some of the pressure off Costelow who is fast becoming the new Priestland, getting blamed for everything.
A 3rd choice hooker who he was actually prepared to use, should have been picked. By all means have Evan Lloyd train with the squad if he’s considered a prospect, but why pick him as a squad player when he’s clearly not ready.
There was the treatment of Sam Parry in the summer, plus the selection of Corey Hill and naming him captain.
A lot of Ospreys players don’t get a decent chance and I’m not even as ospreys supporter. Ratti, Morris, Kieron Williams.
It’s my belief he has to go if we’re to improve.

All I've seen is group of a very bunch of talented young lads who have massively let down by the WRU and they look shattered of any confidence or morale.

Gatland’s job is pretty much selection, game plan, subs, and motivation. I’d say all four have been disastrous since losing the Argentina game. Selection’s all over the place - it makes no sense at all. Total lottery. Game plan (partly a product of selection) is evidently not working - side-to-side or one-up runners in attack, and not committing enough at the breakdown on either attack or defence. Subs have killed the games - as an example, taking off Tom Rogers for Eddie James last week was just stupid. Unforgivable, IMO. And the players are obviously not happy - our few stars aren’t performing at their best, and the youngsters look like they’ve been thrown to the wolves. It’s a disaster, and it’s Gatland’s doing. I reckon he lost the plot during the 2017 Lions tour, and hasn’t found it since.

    • @TheWelshSportsPodcast
      @TheWelshSportsPodcast  6 дней назад +1

Yeah, it’s hard to argue with that, mate. that’s something I’ve criticised him for on this channel. Is there somewhat scattergun selection? I feel like he was blood in lots of youngsters at one point just to cover the performances up. Not sure what the answer is, but I don’t see him surviving after this game to be honest. In his defence I think Tom Rogers was forced off due to cramp from what I read last week

I think the worst outcome for the long term of Welsh rugby this weekend would be a Wales win. We are on the verge of HUGE change at the very top and a win on Saturday would justify the system staying how it is. I genuinely believe that for the good of Welsh rugby, we need a 60 point springbok win and a total embarrassment of our team.
Gatland has selected a team that I think will get bullied and absolutely obliterated. This has to be one of the smallest Welsh back lines I ever seen. The forwards are extremely soft aswell.
I know I sound harsh but I’m going for a scoreline of 58-12 to the boks.
Still a proud Welshman and no matter how trying the times get…… it’s still better than being English.

Wales are already at the point of total embarresment and dont need a battering by the boks to rub salt into already gapping wounds.. i really feel for those players putting on the red jersey but the absolute reality is that wales just havent the rich talent pool that gatland had when he first came to wales .. most of those welsh players during gats first stint with wales also made up the majority of the lions test team on 2 consecutive back to back lions tours.. next year in comparison i really cant see one welsh player being anywhere near farrels starting 15 lion's test team.. as it stands if Farrell picked his lions today no one could complain if not one welsh player made the 35 man squad let alone starting in a test team 15.. the last thing these boys need is a 60 to 80 points mauling by the boks sat but theres every chance it could happen like it did many years ago when bokks put 96 points on Wales..

Why Gatland has ignored Dan Edwards and C.Sheedy in favour of S.Costelow [who currently is not international class] is way beyond my comprehension As for tthe selections against the Boks Well Gatland has opted for his youngsters to get What will possibaly be a big lesson in how to play the game and manage the match. I just cannot see anyway Wales will win the match So this team has to be to get experience and to learn from the best in the world currently As for the hooker debate wll the loss of Elliot Dee was a huge loss to Wales As he and Dewi Lake are the only two class hookers in Wales at the moment I also have a feeling that W.Gatland will be stepping down after this match He just doesn't look happy ect As for the result im sorry to say i do feel that S.Africa will put 40 possibly 50 points on Wales As alot of them are playing for places Given the current depth of S.African rugby in terms of class players

At least Winnett is dropped (I feel like this may be an unpopular opinion) but my god he can’t defend, one of the true Fiji and two that Australia scored were due to him missing tackles and he’s absolutely useless under the high ball (which is kind of the whole point of a full back) 💀

I agree about his tackling but he’s probably 9/10 catching the high ball mate. Very rarely drops them

@ tbf I’m probably just comparing him with halfpenny and Williams who are world class quality, I can’t exactly think of anyone to take his spot tbh

Yeah exactly. Those guys were a different level 😂

Winnett drops too many high balls, when he's under pressure, Dyer's work rate is good, but his positioning and defence is awful, Elias lost 4 out of his first 5 lineouts when he came on, ( He made a great impact for Australia) and the lineout we won was overthrown, Costello, sorry, but he simply isn't International level, Gatland ignored our most potent threat at outside-half, Jared Evans, so he left Cardiff for Harlequins, who can blame him, what a waste...

Winnett doesn’t drop many high balls in his defence. His biggest issue is his lack of size and he can’t handle the physicality. Skills aren’t his issue in my opinion

Sacking Gatland will not do anything for the situation.

I have no hope for this Welsh team, not talented enough I feel for the likes of Jac Morgan being surrounded by average at best players. No talent

Talent is definitely there. It’s just experience. That will come with time. It’s just where we are at the moment

Really unfair to say and you're just plain wrong. You realise half of these boys have just graduated from the u20's setup and have hardly been professionals?

@@xxwales15xx33 You are seriously saying these players match the quality of international level ? lol you are being delusional. A 11 game losing streak says it all, I get young they are young and inexperienced, but seeing no improvements at all in 11 test games is not on at any standard.
Zammit left, Feyi Waboso went to England so did another younger player who had his first cap for England last week, he went through the whole Welsh system then left, the number 10 starting for SA was eligible for Wales and said heck no, Jarrod Evans has been playing amazing no call up for the team, they stick with Costelow who is the worst 10 ever lol. Not being unfair being factual, Sam Warburton and Dan Bigger said the exact same things. I would say Dewi Lake and Jac Morgan will be the only Lions fact!

@@jamesgill9223 Since when did I say all of them are international are standard? Don't put words in my mouth! I agree a lot of those boys aren't anywhere near ready yet but what choice do we have? Gatland (within 6 months!) has axed the entire spine and experience of this team. That doesn't mean to say they actually aren't good enough as a lot of these guys have been making leaps and bounds for their clubs and regions. But all coming together as a team facing off against the most experienced and test proven outfits in the world is always going to be a major uphill battle!
With the exception of George North. None of the Welsh stars we've had for the last 15 years started out being anywhere near world class. Gatland from 2008-2011 done an exceptional job of transitioning an aging Welsh team into a much younger and more modernized test outfit and spent 3 years developing and integrating the likes of North, Roberts, Davies, Warburton, Faletau, Lydiate, Priestland (list goes on etc). They we're all introduced and steadily tracked into a far more experienced team full of leaders and established top test level players like Shane Williams, Gethin Jenkins, Adam Jones, Mike Phillips, Stephen Jones etc. This allowed them to develop fantastically for the next few years and by the 2011 WC came by we took the tournament by storm and could have very easily have won it.
Fast track the next 11 years when Gatland comes back in 2022. This time he has done an awful job of developing these generation of players, this current crop of players have absolutely no team leaders to look up to. The entire core and spine of our team have been wrongly forced out and instead of learning from the likes AWJ, Tipuric, Faletau, Biggar etc they have to learn all of these things themselves as there's no team leaders in the dressing room to pick them up, as it shows when they look defeated before the game kicks off.

I'm very impressed by your podcast for a number of reasons:
    1. You have a natural, unrushed style (like eggchasers).
    2. The background is 'sport themed'
    3. Seeing you speak live (rather than just the voice) is more entertaining than the earlier podcasts.
    4. Your analysis is broad, covers all positions / whole game
    5. Don't be afraid to throw in a few questions back at the audience where you are genuinely interested in your viewers' opinions.
    6. Clean language.
    7. Length of the clips are sensible. Making them too short is less enjoyable, for me personally.
    A few ideas:
    - A collab with eggchasers
    - Pop up photos when you are talking about someone.
    - Write the welsh rugby union, and say you're willing to go watch games and honestly analyse them (as you do anyway on your channel), if they can sponsor the travel accommodation and tickets?
    - Perhaps a video on the channel - what is your history with rugby etc etc.
Enjoying your style, I hope you keep going.
