    Most often, it is a mistake to not send the bass fundamental (100hz in this example) into the bass saturation. The distorted harmonics are generated from the loudest frequency, and if you remove that from the saturation, it will be less musical and clean. I would rather not cut it at 140hz, and just create a new bus track with a clean low end, then high-pass the saturated track.

    great video!!! last weeks i discovered this is very easy to do with that Waves Rack thingie, i use a tripple parallel channel config. So low, mid and high...on the middle channel (around 80hz to 300hz or whatever) i put Peakeater (free) and any EQ before it to boost the exact freq i want...then leave the low and top channels untouched...and on the master you put an extra peakeater, so you can see what the total dB does :P:P:P...then go all out with macros to make your own custom super easy coloring tool!!!

  • @martinb5367
    @martinb5367 2 месяца назад +1

    Nice! I tested it today, and it worked fine for me. For some reason, my SSL Comp isn't modulating the VU, but it's still functioning properly. I was unsure about the incoming signal, so I added IK metering and noticed it’s slightly lower than yours. I’m using Ableton, so I can only guess how much send signal you set-I presume it was at 0.
    Anyway, the result was great! I managed to give the bass more definition and a bit of smoothness. I'm an Afro House producer leaning towards a more Latin tribal sound, so my basses are really low but have a smooth groove. Thanks, bro! I'll definitely follow you for more tips. Thanks a lot

    that was a super clever demonstration of the creation of harmonics by saturation. never seen that before. also, i have noticed before that saturating the low end itself seems to thin it out. anyone know why that is? is it because sine waves make the most powerful sub frequencies, and a saturator will change the characteristics of the waveform further away from the purest tone?

    That’s a cool trick! Just wondering how much of that is simply volume and could be done also by using an eq and gently boosting that low mid area. Essentially isn’t that basically just making the 140hz above portion louder? Sure the saturation adds something (more frequency content, yes) but when using it like that, isn’t it missing all the good bits from the lower part as that part does not get saturated?

    • @Willigrow
      @Willigrow Месяц назад

      Depending on how much you saturate, you can definitely get much more density and color that you can never achieve with just an eq boost. And than you can independently adjust how much of the clean low end and how much of he highs you want.
