I thought for the longest time that my mouse was the problem in FPS games. I was getting this sort of jittering effect which made it extremely difficult to line up a shot at longer ranges. It never occured to me to lower my sensitivity right the way down. For some reason I used the same tactics as I did on console and expected to have the same results. I'm now thoroughly enjoying going back to those shooters like HLL and Squad actually loving every minute because I'm actually combat effective now. Just thought I'd share in case anyone was having a similar issue and is also a smoothbrain like me.
I imagine on top of the line equipment it almost feels like cheating lmao. I play on a laptop. A decent one but, I still will be super excited to get a stationary PC again.
When you adjust your mouse sensitivity to new dpi you can also take your old sensitivity multiplied with old dpi and divided by new dpi. (Because what you want to stay the same is degrees/inch(effective sensitivity) = degrees/dot(sens) * dots/inch(dpi))
I need to upgrade my monitor for sure (24" 1080p) but the FOV change alone completely changed the game for me. Actually seeing targets instead of dying because i didn't notice that ONE pixel makes the experience way better
I've just been using all the default game game setting with my mouse set to 400 dpi. Works fine for me personally but i will definitely be taking into account some of your advice from this video. Thank you.
I play on 400dpi and tune the in game sens so with my mouse centered on my mousepad I can turn 180 degrees while leaving a 2cm gap between collision points like my keyboard and the end of the mousepad. The method you use to aim is the most important part and I can't stress enough to always try and be in the same general position when sitting at your pc as it's much easier to learn muscle memory. I prefer low sens with fingertip grip as it gives you the most control over your aim, basically using my arm to flick to the general area and instantly adjusting with the tips of my fingers. In turn this allows you to have 2 methods of control, one for quick and snappy movements and one for precise movements. People bind sniper buttons that lower dpi on their mouses when evolution gave you a better sniper button. Downside is that it's not the most comfortable grip and you're looking for a specific mouse category that's both light and small and preferably with an elongated profile (currently my favorite out of a lot of different mouses is the g203 prodigy as it's cheap, light, fits the profile.) A big mousepad is a must but if you're low on space then the old method of tilting your keyboard works very well.
You should never use the ingame sensitivity to adjust for lower dpi settings. Creates more input lag and less accuracy. You can even get pixel skipping. Really recommend using higher DPI and put the ingame sensitivity to neutral to achieve the same sensitivity. Also very important is that you have "Enhance pointer precision" off in Windows settings. Same effect.
If you want to be methodical and consistent with your mouse sensitivity across all games you need to first settle on a chosen dpi. Say 500dpi. Then you go in-game and focus on a point. Horizontally move your mouse until you turn a full 360. Depending on preference the travel of the mouse should be about 12-16". Adjust in-game sens until you reach desired travel length. Pick a distance you like you feel good with and apply this to all your games so muscle memory stays with you in any game. Personally I'm 400 dpi and 16". This is obviously for low sens players. High sens players are alien to me.
