New video about one of the most controversial and naturally talented players we've seen over the 1990's in football. In this episode we take on Gabriel Batistuta who played for Fiorentina, Roma, Argentina, Boca Juniors and River Plate for most of his career.

One of the best, I rember when I was a kid 98' world cup Batistuta and Ortega, Croatia and Argentina in same group, I as a croat was so sad in quoterfinale when Nederland win against them, I was crying in front of friends.... they use sing to me Maddona's song "Dont cry for me Argentina" for a week at last, but Croatia was third that year so affter that I still remember the joke of my friend bcs Argentina was my favorit then (was alweys wearing one of my 3 argentinian dreses) .... Kid what did you talk about which fuc...g Ariel Ortega and Fax Helisim Batistuta...!!! XD
Fiorentina was on the run for the scudetto and during a match Batigol (Batistuta) got injured. The manager told :"i prefer to lose the match than Batistuta". It Sais a lot.
Because his reserve at that time was edmundo o animal, edmundo preferred go to carnval and play really bad after his happy time on brazil.
That season, fiorentina was on top of the league. After he got injured, they went 5 straight match without a win. And the scudetto never came for la viola.

Suarez is one of the last great attackers left. Id take him to my club Inter over every Young striker expect maybe haaland. These strikers is a dying breed, when a Guy like lautaro Martinez in Inter is worth like 100 mil € i wonder what Batistuta would be worth. He would have like 3 goals in every match If he got all the chances Martinez gets to score. Its sick how big the difference is when u compare the football back then to now.
BatiGol was the reason i became a fan of Argentina in 1998, when i was 12 years old.....now when i finally see Argentina as World Cup champions, my dream as a child is finally complete! And when i see him cry from happiness in the interview after the final, i was about to cry like a child....

Loyal players that wanted to improve a club instead of hopping ship at the first offer. That's why 90s football was way more interesting than todays. More competition.

Football Italia on Channel 4 in the 90s. Batistuta was easily one of the best Players of Calcio, and I say that because at this time Del Piero, Inzaghi, et al, were at the very peak of their game.

1990s-early 2000s was a totally amazing era for strikers in Italian football: Batistuta, Crespo, Ronaldo, Vieri, Inzaghi, Salas, Trezeguet, Boksic, Shevchenko, Weah... that's even before you consider prolific attackers like Mancini and Signori who weren't the #9 type. So glad I got to experience some of this magic.
Yup I miss that era, now we got whimpy flop boys upfront playing for the VAR.
Football lost its charm and innocence after Abramovich bought chelsea.

Though I'd say the downfall started a little bit earlier: when the European courts ruled that free movement should apply to football players and then when Florentino Perez arrived on the stage. Ironically the same European powers now argue football needs to be considered a cultural exception against the threat of a Super League.

As a Brazilian who grew up seeing Argentina as our rivals, for some reason I have always loved watching batigol play. Choosing to play for fiorentina even though the best clubs in the world were after him is something that deserves huge respect. Not to mention his passion every time he scored and the usual Argentinian hunger and desire on the pitch.
I mean, from wherever one is, it's impossible to hate on Batigol. Doing so is synonymous with hating football.
Always liked how Brazilian people recognize game, I saw it for instance with Zidane.

As a fiorentina fan , grown in the 90s, i have nothing but love and respect for this man, and he Is the Only player that made me cry watching a football match, i was a teenager , but i felt so bad for him scoring against US , against himself, watching him dragged around the pitch for his stunning ( as usual ) goal , but remaining completly still, and covering his face and his eyes full of tears...man i felt that deep. I felt really bad for Ronaldo injury in Inter, screaming for his knee, but i have to Say that Bati, refusing to celebrate and depressed for what he had Just done to himself, to us... Was crushing. Batigol viola per sempre. 💜
Nobody who saw him play has forgotten Batistuta, an absolute beast of a striker with Rockstar looks..in the time he played (mainly the 90's) it was normal for small and medium clubs in Serie A to have big stars, then globalization hit football with the Bosman law, ending the limit of foreigners, big money buying clubs, the rise of the Premier League etc...but yeah, Bati was old school, also very humble, legend!
Batigol was an unbelievable goalscorer. Absolutely lethal. Even in a team like Fiorentina with limited resources compared to the rest he still delivered against the biggest teams.

Batigol is unique. His consistency to score is almost scary. Regardless of who he play against, he seem to be able to beat them. One of the best goal scorer of all times.
I love when you cover footballer from the previous generation. As someone who started following the sport in recent times I have only heard their names not their story. It's amazing how you cover their entire life story in such an entertaining way.
One thing that Always astonished me was the percentage of decisive goals he scores. He was not the man of the fifth goal of his team, but almost Always was the First one, or the 90th min decisive 5-4 or things likes that. Such a massive player!!
I think I remember Fiorentina 5-4 win against either Vicenza or Piacenza back then. Great match, and yep Batistuta scored the first goal.

Growing up watching soccer, Batigoal was one of the best scorers, but I never knew how loyal he was for Fiorentina. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated scorer in the game. Thanks for sharing his story

I still remember the day I first saw Rui Costa and Batistuta playing together at Fiorentina on CH4. Ballet on grass.
Battigol and Maestro were a miracle to watch, amazing players. That Fiorentina team had also some Juventus in them with Soldatino Di Livio and Moreno Torricelli and of course one of the greatest Juventus coaches, Trapattoni.
That was a good team Morfeo, Oliveira, Edmundo, Heinrich, Balbo, Rui Costa, Amoroso, Toldo etc.
This man and Matthew Le Tissier are my all time favourite players, so fortunate to have been able to grow up watching two of the greatest artists to have ever done it.

I remember when I was learning about football back in the early 2000’s from two Brasileiro friends of mine. Batigol was the only Argentinian footballer that they both agreed on as being both great and that they actually liked. Of course they HATED Maradona, but they liked Batigol. Grácias, Batigol!

As a Benfica fan, it was devastating to see Rui Costa leave for Fiorentina.. but him and Bastituta were magical together. Roma needed Bastituta and they got him; it’s where he truly belonged.
Roma was no better than Fiorentina. They had won only 1 league title till then unlike Fiorentina which had 2. He went to Roma because Fiorentina needed the money. From 2000 to 2001 they sold every major player in a clumsy attempt to save the team: They sold Toldo, Batistuta and Rui Costa for over 80 million euros (crazy money for the times) but the team unfotunately bankrupted anyways and got relegate to the 4th division in 2002. A real shame for a team that could win the title just a few years before... Batistusta-Rui Costa-Edmundo upfront and Francesco Toldo as goalkeaper, pure magic !

Thank you for this video. GB was always a hero of mine while in Florence. The fact that he gave so much of himself for the game shows what kind of man he is. There's few examples I can think across all sports - Batistuta, Jack Youngblood in the NFL, Kevin McHale in the NBA, all come to mind. They all put the team first and its great that there are videos on RUclips that recognise them for the work, blood, sweat and tears with a few broken bones they gave to their respective sports - altho not enough is made in the mainstream media and that is such a shame, but that is the way the mainstream is; they go after low hanging fruit only and that is why we are so lucky to have our real source of news - creators like this. Great video mate. I don't know what I would do nowadays without channels like this!

My favorite Argentinian player, together with Redondo. Every Argentinian striker that came after him cannot compete imo. Great personality, so humble and yet deadly when it comes to scoring goals.

Great video about a truly great player. I went to Argentina in 1993, and on my first night-a rainy August night in Buenos Aires-I turned on the TV saw Batistuta play for the national team. My two favorite players became Batistuta and Redondo.

You are doing very well with these videos as I’m 37 & from Jamaica 🇯🇲 where 1998, I was in high school watching Batistuta & Argentina demolish us in the World Cup, it was fun though as it was our 1st time & playing against one of the Greatest South American sides, I remember Baptistuta’s name rang in that match…thanks for the memories 💪🏾👊🏾

When it comes to legendary strikers Batistuta rarely if ever gets mentioned. I grew up watching the guy and he was the complete centre forward, he had everything. Truly world class.

He is not a forgotten man, despite not playing for a Man United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Juve or Bayern. He is always spoken about in the highest regard, by pundits and football fans the world over.
If you watched football in the 90s-00s then you are very familiar with Batistuta and how dominant a striker he was. Defenders and goalkeepers hated the sight of him. He was tall, strong, tenacious and he was a great finisher with either foot and in the air.

Bati-goal. He was amazing for Fiorentina, making a average side capable of competing with far bigger teams. He could have moved to virtually any club, but chose to commit to Fiorentina even after the club was relegated which has made him a legend there. This is when he was performing amazingly for Argentina as well.
