  • Jose Mourinho is one of the most successful managers in football history, and his time at United, winning the Europa League and finishing 2nd. This team included the most expensive footballer of all time, Paul Pogba, one of most exciting young talents, Marcus Rashford, Manchester United's top goalscorer, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan, De Gea & even more. But all these years later, where are they now? Well, Pogba is banned, Lingard has flopped, Rashford is hated... was Jose right?

That team had so much average footballers its insane what Mourinho achieved. Man United has had a very average squad for almost 10 years with only a few players that can be considered world class in the squad each season. To get 2nd place and win the Europa league is out of this world. Getting any consistency out of that team is almost an impossible task.

What people fail to realise is that whenever Jose said that a certain player would fail, 8/10 times, they does. He knows how to rebuild, he knows how to build dynasty and best of all how to win. Him at United was probably the best time of United post SAF era. 2nd place finish today seems impossible for United, European final even UEL seems unachieveable and players scoring above 15 goals in a season is a thing of past. Only if he was given the reinforcement he wanted for the following season seeing that Baily & Rojo were injury prone, Jones was out of question and only Lindelof was decent, he did ask for Milan Skrinar and Harry Maguire. He knew midfield needed some magic replacing Wayne Rooney, he asked for Bruno Fernandes. He knew with Zlatan gone, Lukaku needed a partner, and he asked for Marko Arnautovic . Even Fred who was signed later was on his wishlist alongside Yerry Mina, Toby Alderwielrd, Youri Tielemans and few others. But back then Ed Woodward vetoed everyone, and only allowed a young injured Diogo Dalot who was one for the future, Lee Grant and Fred.

Pogba was a dream player but plagued with injuries. Martial was a terrible attacked signed by LVG alongside Depay who we had to replace with Lukaku and Zlatan, while Zlatan became a cult hero, Lukaku was a crybaby. Matic was a honest servant who was almost perfect in my honest opinion in terms of what we paid for him Victor Lindelof might not be a shiny name but he sure is a loyal one. Especially his long passes, it's a shame not many use it. What Jose wanted versus what he got from Ed Woodward shows what us at United have been asking for. Jose knew but it was hardly a secret. Since Fergie left United fans have got carried away with players who show flashes but are never consistent.
As an Arsenal fan who strongly disliked some of our players before the Arteta clean up I was always baffled by United fans defending players. Players who clearly didn't have the right attitude or ability to bring the team to even challenge for the league.

I don’t care what anyone says, David De Gea will go down as one of my favorite ever United players.
It is clear United’s issues since 2013 have not been because of him.
Let me put it this way, if Sir Alex had stayed on for a few more years, no one would even be talking about De Gea being “disappointing” or anything. He was let down by the rest of the team, plain and simple.

Jose's time at United was interesting to say the least. He has his supporters and his haters among the fan base, but for me there are three things Jose said during that time that will forever be etched in United lore:
    1- If they play
    2- Football heritage
3- Finishing second was the greatest accomplishment of my career
Everybody mocked him when he made each comment, but now in hindsight it's futile to argue against what he said. I didn't enjoy his final season with us, he had already lost the dressing room by then and sacking him was the right choice, but I'll never doubt a word of what he said about his time there. Ideally, Jose should have joined right after Sir Alex left, United were already halfway to rock bottom by the time he arrived.
