  • After years of lacklustre performances in Europe, José Mourinho stepped through the doors of the San Siro with the sole purpose of winning the Champions' League. For almost 50 years, Interistas had been starved of the continents most prestigious club trophy and "The Special One" was seen by Massimo Moratti as the man to change the club's culture. What followed was a historical campaign, and Inter's best in over a century!

It’s one of the greatest deals ever, they got Eto’o, Hleb and the 46 millions $ for Zlatan. That means that basically Eto’o’s salary was paid for the two years he was with them. Then Inter made $ winning the treble and selling jerseys. In the second year they finished second in Serie A but won the Coppa and the World championship which was as coveted as the champion’s league by ownership. Finally, they sold Eto’o to Anzhi were he went on to become the highest paid player for two years. It is I believe one of the greatest piece of business ever… Real Madrid acquiring CR7 was similar. They got him from Man U for 100 millions, won everything, made millions with his likeness and sold him a decade later to Juve for…100 millions… just incredible impeccable business…⚽️❗️

The first leg game vs Barcelona is probably the best counterattack masterclass ever seen. He planned that game thoroughly and beat them. Yes, one goal was offside, but Inter could have scored more than that also. Everytime a Barcelona player had the ball, they had 2 players closing every passing line and another man marking. And Inter attacked space on the counter relentlessly. Guardiola was outlcassed in both legs... defending 10 vs 11 for 70 minutes against that brilliant team and managing to limit them to 3 dangerous shots was absolutely phenomenal

Mourinho told him that if he scored twice he would be OK with it, otherwise they wouldn't allow him to leave Italy. Thinking he was safe and there was no way he would be able to... Mourinho's teams are living proof that a strong defense and a solid counterattack can beat any other strategy. His Inter squad was the epitome of this. They faced all kinds of teams, playing totally different styles of football and he managed to neutralize them all.
This was especially enlightning at the time when they faced Barcelona, previously thought unbeatable. But his tactics forced Barça to play anything but the only brand of football they knew, which was tiki taka. The catalans perfected that tactic so much that they would absolutely crumble whenever they were forced to play any other way, something that would start to happen more frequently before the formal end of the tiki taka era.

This Inter was epic in every competition, not just UCL. I remember watching every game , there was a lot of bad decisions from the referee in the league and they managed to win games anyway, sometimes with 2 man sent off, it was crazy. They were a solid team on the pitch, had a lot of quality, but what i loved the most is that they had a unique warrior mentality, never gave up, they fought for every ball, worked as a unit, and made you believe they would come out victorious, no matter the odds.

This Inter Milan team was a defensive masterpiece and as Bayern München Fan....it was a worthy opponent. We weren't ready yet....as a Lothar Matthäus Fan and because of him and Giovanni Trapattoni a Inter Milan friend....this final wasn't soul crushing like the Manchester United disaster.
Inter Milan had a incredible experienced and defensively sound mixture of players....some knew this might be the last time they get this far. And a coach that is known to be a tactical master.
They deserved this title as much as FC Bayern München did. Inter also made some intelligent transfers....Bayern München letting Lucio go made me actually upset - he was the last elite Libero....full of passion and fighting spirit. I also think Thiago Motto was a fantastic all-rounder. Great team....and probably the only team we lost against without me throwing remotes enraged....

Yes, I hated his guts for his arrogance. But it was one of his core attributes that made him, well, special. Truly one of the GOAT managers. And that Inter team, what an amazing assembly of talented, hard working players that complimented each other so well. The stand outs for me were Milito, Sneijder and Pandev.

Disagree - although Inter comes a close 2nd.
Porto achievement is much bigger - a non Top 5 League club, a clear minnow compared to the giant rich clubs from the Top Leagues able to purchase players throughout Europe.
Mourinho's Porto consisted of many Portuguese players scouted from the lower leagues in the country.
These players may have been well known in Portugal but were virtual unknowns outside the country until their successes.
