For years, I’ve been using the iPad as my only working and editing machine. For years I’ve been asking to be able to use FCPX in the iPad, and I had nothing, so I started using Lumafusion. Lumafusion is a great app, but not exactly for pro’s… then DResolve came and I was so glad. I bought the studio version and it’s amazing. When I apple announced, yesterday, that FCPX was coming to the iPad I smiled for a minute… but then I read the “small print”: subscription? No hard drive? No this, no that? … thank you apple for making it easy for me to decide: I’m sticking with DR.
DaVinci Resolve is the real deal. Super professional on iPad M2,i've sold my Macbook Pro
Honestly, this is like after getting the ability to code on the iPad. The announcement was super exciting but the limitations made it feel like it was more of a checkbox answer than something designed for people to use.
Hopefully this will end up more like iWork and the features will be added back over time.
Great video! Can you tell us what microphone you’re using? Thanks.
The missing feature of being able to connect an external drive made me realise it’s just not going to be able to be most people’s number one editing app on iPad. It’s probably apples tactic of getting people to buy the highest storage version and cough out more 💵
This will be like Final Cut Pro X when it first came out, rebuild from ground up. I think Apple will definitely update like it did with Final Cut Pro X. If Logic Pro for iPad can do round trip to Mac version of Logic Pro than Apple will definitely do it for Final Cut Pro but first they need to update the Mac version to be more compatible. Remember when Final Cut Pro X came out people were complaining about pro features missing which later Apple added by updating Final Cut Pro X. I think Final Cut Pro for iPad will be more touch friendly compared to DaVinci Resolve for iPad.
100% agree with all your point Michael, and the timing of the release is very curious - 2 weeks from NAB and 2 weeks to WWDC, which is the showcase for the new features of the OS. They could have played the 1 min video and said there is more info online, and moved on. Very hopeful for a big FCP update coming. Great thoughts!
I think the early release of the FCP iPad app is less about the app and more about preparing us for a FCP desktop subscription that is coming down the pike. This will lessen the shock coming in June… Then they will give us a bundle price that will make us feel that we are getting a deal...
Great can't wait for a stable resolve...did buy it for ipad kind of crash but still love using it just forget about pro Final cut switch to Resolve 18.5
Is this gone be a stand alone version or will I have to have the Mac version too, they implied that on another video I saw
Just for interest and testing purposes I wonder if FCP for iPad will run on a Mac M1 machine? I know you can run certain iOS apps on an M1 Mac. And currently I don't have an M1 iPad but I do have FCP desktop.
You are spot on with your analysis of this update - In my mind also - too little, too late.
With storyblocks integrated into LumaFusion I won’t even bother with FinalCut anymore, Apple saying soon always leaves you saying finally by the time they allow pro 3rd party applications lol
Nope, if they move to a subscription model then Final cut is dead to me. I'm still bitter they killed off shake after I bought it in favor of motion. The only reason I've kept Final cut on my Mac was because it was an affordable price, but if they go subscription then I'll be DaVinci Resolve for the foreseeable future. If final cut is $49 per month in 6 months one has Resolve studio for life, or at least foreseeable future.
It looks to me that they are aiming this toward content creators and not necessarily editors who do more heavy lifting. But even as a professional video editor you still need the ability to make simple edits on the go. I just wish Blackmagic would make the other pages in the iPad version more stable. If they did that it wold be truly untouchable.
As long as i can edit straight from my SSD. All editor are good. It's up to you what you want to use.
Did you watch the video? Lol you can’t edit off a external drive sadly
Object tracking also MacBook exclusive, huge L from Apple. This is a Lumafusion CapCut combo but I’m still somewhat excited as it’s just a v1
They KILLED It before it was released. From Apple: "Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad will each be available on the App Store for $4.99 (US) per month or $49 (US) per year with a one-month free trial". $50 a year! No Way!!!! I just canceled my Adobe subscription because I was tired of paying over $60 a month for software I only used for one client who I have not worked for for a long time. All the others, I use FCP or Resolve Studio. Both of which I have paid $300, ONCE. I will stick for travel FCP to using my trusty MacBook Air M1 which I already own. Even though I have a iPad Pro M2, I can always use Resolve on it as it was a free download. Hope it stays that way.
BTW, I just edited 46 video from NAB in FCP on my Mac. Nothing is faster.
I get where you are coming from but this is the first released let's see in a couple of months where the app is.
I think FCP on iPad will be a great app for most filmmakers once they confess they don’t really need a Hollywood toolbox for their 4 minute RUclips vids. (I really hope they add external drive support though, we all need that, and Apple knows so I’m not to worried.)
What I do like is that it’s trying to leverage iPad specificities like the jog thing and the Pencil support… DaVinci while great has basically the same desktop workflow and doesn’t play to the strengths of the iPad …the lack of external drive support is lame though, like just wanting you to buy the biggest and most expensive iPad……
I think (we hoped different, but maybe the think different is on that part 😉) to see both programs separated from each other.
Yes you will be able to prepare some part on the iPad and goto the desktop, but there is where you finish it with tracking stuff etc.
Separate the two programs as is and a FCP on an iPad will help many, MANY, to starts editing.
The best part of all this is that there will is a new FCP for the M1's and M2 on its way, that's what I take from this!
For what I use it (and for what) a spoken Dutch vlog we only have Belgium and The Netherlands as potential viewers I think I will be able to make awesome vids with this for when I travel.
So positive vibrations! FCP is still (very much) on the radar of Apple, which is Awesome! from here on out, the MacVersion can only be BETTER! And I refuse to switch because so many are switching because of the hype.
Can Final Cut Pro iPad support 360 or video ?
I haven’t heard a no on this but I have a feeling that won’t be one of the initial features on the iPad version. It took quite a few years before 360 content was editable on the desktop version
@@initialfocus yup , please let me know I am curious to know, what I had tried the mac version edit 360 quite powerful, currently using LumaFusion only stitch but can preview or scroll around any angle.
Hope you create can edit 360 video sure more audience looking for this and very fresh content too
Looks like canon guys have left their jobs at canon and joined Apple 😂
This new logic interface is amazing for both platforms! The only people who aren’t happy are the typewriter jockeys who need that annoying qwerty typewriter and mouse ! This is wonderful! 👽✌🏻
Haha what?
I totally agree with your concerns. Can't transfer the project to mac? Can't use external storage? PASS
Really hope that's wrong or that it's just temporary but... really wouldn't be surprised if some team at Apple thought "If we don't allow external storage, people will upgrade to ipads with larger storage!"
you can transfer to Mac, not the other way around
It's giving second rate Adobe Rush vibes. I'm still not excited about this. Luma and Davinci offer a whole lot more for a whole lot less. And that's only if it's not something I'm already editing on my MacBook to begin with! Even CapCut on iphone is more useful. I just can't get hyped about this. 🤷🏻♂️ Love the video though! Great points!
Listen I teach a bunch of “film students ” or students who make ‘films’ as part of there University degree and they don’t even know what a Hard drive is …that’s who this is for and there’s a lot of them. Not people who want the control and ‘how it all works ..just that it works’ ..see what I did there 😂
I only use iPad for drawing, browsing or some games. Serious PRO work I do on the Mac using macOS. I would NEVER use a tablet, with limited connections, small screen, touchscreen and horrible UI made for viewing one app at a time (maybe a split screen). If Apple continues this trend to make the Mac like an iPad (like it did with the dumb settings with Ventura) I'm out and in persuit of a PRO machine, whatever the OS. New Apple managers ruining everything!
Luma Fusion and Davinci Resolve it is...
Haha that seems to be a common response!
this is not all we are getting. As a user of Apple since the 70s, history tells me this is how they operate. They march to the beat of their own drum. Does not mean they get it right all the time *cough HomePod*. Remember when they announced cut and paste for the iPhone? I laughed as I was doing that for a while via jailbreak. Yet it worked. Patience Mr. Tobin. Patience.
This is perhaps the best response. That's the one that makes the most amount of sense.
This is really a bit of a let down from a company that makes such great hardware.
I’m really hoping I’m wrong!
What a gimmick of a release! 😅 As if it’s worth its salt without being able to jump between desktop and Mac
Relax APPLE get there when theyre ready
Lost me at no external hard drives.
Apple loves to introduce a limited product and then, over the years, incrementally added features that should have been on day one. If their product weren’t like drug addiction, Apple wouldn’t have been what it is. It’s irritable, and we love to hate, but Apple does have that kind of power over us until enough of customer band together and refused to give Apple that reign.
Leave it to the bean counters at Apple to gimp their products to squeeze ever last dollar of profit from its customers.
More like Final Cut lite
This is exactly what Apple did years ago when they released iMovie Pro…. I mean FCPX. It took Apple almost 5 years to update FCPX to a level pros required and by that point many had moved on to other programs. This version just doesn’t cut it, no pun intended.
