I’m finding it hard with the amount of edits, hot keys etc… that I would enjoy this interface. I feel I’ve spent years getting my work flow optimized and I can’t imagine being nearly as quick on the iPad.
I am totally new to Final cut Pro.. I have an iPad.. Never used a Mac before.. But this video tutorial helped me to learn FCP from scratch and I am gonna use it for my content creation journey.. Thanks a lot man.. Appreciate your efforts in giving such quality content ❤

I can take all that money I normally would have spent on learning the app and put it into Apple's monthly subscription fee (wish I could just buy the app outright instead of subscription though, Apple!). Also, I just discovered your Chapter Markers in the "Show More" section under the video -- Nice! To be able to jump to a section when I'm looking up a feature is really helpful.

At this point FCP on iPad can't take libraries from your mac without any weird workarounds. There's a guy name Chris Hocking who is doing some great work on getting Mac libraries over to FCiPad! Here's his app called Transfer Toolbox - transfertoolbox.io/how-to-use/#tips--gottchas

I have not tried it yet - I’m new to FCP - On another video that I watched this morning, some comments were made about doing exactly what you’re asking about. I don’t recall her name, or I’d point you to her. Here’s what I remember, from what she said: In FCP, at the top, there’s a microphone icon. Clicking that, will open a little window, with a mic at the top and a meter of some sort, showing the volume of either your voice, or the other sounds around you. Clicking the red button on that little meter window, starts to record sound. Click it again to stop. You should be able to move that recorded audio clip anywhere in the project that you would like to. Click the microphone icon at the top of your screen again, to put that meter window back away, when you’re finished with it, if you want to. Maybe you’ve figured all of that out by now. I see that you’d asked your question about a month ago. That said, I also saw that there was no reply. Maybe this will help you out. If so, please reply to let me know. Cheers! 😊
So far I like it vs lumafusion. But vs the desktop Mac fcpx currently. I just need 2 things, external drive support, and round tripping back and forth between Mac and iPad/iPad and Mac. I’m okay with the iPad app not having everything and using it when I have to take work home to do rough cuts or utilize some of its cool features. But the lack of back and forth is rough. Rarely would I start on my iPad I would normally start on the Mac Studio =\ overall though, I expect those to come in the future.
Great video as always. Does the app not have compound clips? I use that all the time, especially for creating the final mixdown and applying audio fx to each audio track role. Is this not possible on iPad?
I used the Final Cut Pro for iPad Project export to MacBook sharing thru AirDrop and none of the edited film came through...am I doing something wrong? Great video BTW
One thing I didn’t see or missed was how you make a clip rewind, so that in playback you get say your guy jogging run backwards then forwards again if you get what I mean and make clips go into slow motion ?
The iPad version doesn’t currently have a voiceover tool (though I’d be surprised if it’s not added in one of the first feature updates). Right now you could record using the Voice Memos app, and then import that into FCPiPad, just like you would with any other video file.

Awesome tutorial! Do you know If there is any way to save effects as a preset so you can just drag and drop instead of having to manipulate each individual clip?
Is there a draw mask effect on that? I can see how with the Apple Pencil doing rotoscoping and fine-tuned masking would be useful. And extremely useful to the likes of mFreezeFrame plugins (if they ever come out and support the pencil that is)
Good job, thanks. FCP IPad version even works well with an Air model, although, there are some problems like copying and pasting a clip. The copying seems to work but how do you paste it into the timeline. With a few tweaks, It will become a poor man’s new multicam angle. Now, what about the new Motion? Everyone is talking about FCP updates, but I’m not seeing any love for the new Motion update.
Thanks so much for the Super Thanks! So I ran into an issue where the pasting wasn't working when it should. To fix it, I had to quit FCP and come back. I haven't run into the issue since it's gone out of beta though! You should be able to paste something by tapping and holding on an empty part of the timeline. The paste at playhead option should appear if it's not bugging out. Hope that helps!
Quick question, can’t seem to figure this out. Just got an iPad and Final Cut Pro. But the touchscreen doesn’t seem to be working on the clips. For instance trying to crop/Ken burns some clips and I cannot seem to get the green or red box to move. Can’t do the other crop either. With the finger or Apple Pencil. Is some setting on I don’t know about locking me from editing this way? Seems like it should be easy but alas.

Hey Jan! To get a gradient text you could apply your gradient onto your timeline. Place your text layer on top of the gradient. Change the blend mode of your title to "stencil Alpha or Luma" then place your background over the top of both layers. Change the blend mode of your background to "Behind" and you will have gradient text!
How do you choose the frame that is displayed as the cover/promo shot for your video. The clip that people see when scrolling videos on any social media platform..?
That will be done on each social platform, and not something that’s done from FCP. For example, on Instagram, while you’re posting, it’ll give you the option of choosing a thumbnail.

And it’s that random image I see every time I go into the project to carry out some editing. I don’t like the project cover image it’s chosen. So how can I change that image..? Right now you could record using the Voice Memos app, and then import that into FCPiPad, just like you would with any other video file.

My M1 11" ipad does not have the pro res option in FCPx camera. Maybe that is M2 only?

Is there anyway to disable the playhead where I can move the timeline with my pencil and it plays at that point without moving the playhead?
Not sure why after I apply changes to the image and save it, the saved file looks different. Either more saturated or with more shadow or brightness.
