Ça, ça me rappelle de bons souvenirs, lorsque j'étais au Québec. J'ai grandis avec le pouding aux choeurs.

Pouding chômeur can be translated by :Unemployed men cake . In the video , it is said that , in 1929 and in the following years, there was many unemployed men in Montreal . Montreal's mayor of the time was CAMILIEN HOUDE , a man from the base. His wife tried to create a desert for poor peoples that could satisfy their sweet taste . She ended with the Pouding Chômeur . The traditional cake is butter , flour , milk and white sugar , for the cake . Brown sugar and water for the syrup.Nothing more.
      1 cup of flour// 1/2 cup of sugar// 1/3 cup of softened butter// (1 egg/)/ 1/2 teaspoon baking powder //1/2 teaspoon vanilla)//1/4 cup of milk.
Mix sugar and softened butter in a bowl with electric whip. Add egg. Add the preparation to flour + milk . In a pan , boil 2 cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of water. When done , poor syrup over the cake . Use a glass bread pan . Cook for 35 minutes in the stove at 400 degrees. Stand still for 15 minutes. Than serve . ( You can also add 1/2 cup of cream in the syrup . At that moment , put the syrup first in the pan, then the cake and bake just the same .)

Nicolas, thank you for the original history and recipe. I did make one recipe that called for organic maple syrup about a year ago when I was researching recipes....boy was it rich and sweet, but delicious. So rich that I couldn’t eat but a tad bit, when making the recipe that uses maple syrup you definitely need a crowd to please to eat it all, I made it for just my husband and I and was at a loss of what to do with the remaining rest of the cake. I think I gained lbs trying not to waste such a nice cake lol. With your thoughtfulness of replying with the original recipe, I’m definitely going to try it without maple, using brown sugar instead....thanks again. Sweet Spring season to you & yours, Connie.
