    A few inaccuracies:
    1. Shuri Castle was not the last stand of the Japanese forces. In late May as the US forces pushed on the Shuri Line, nearly all of the Japanese soldiers evacuated the castle, so when the Marines arrived there, they were met with little resistance, meaning these banzai attacks, mortar shell throwing and the airstrikes in the game should not happen, and thus this level is pretty much fictional.
    2. The Japanese had retreated to the South of the island, not the north as Roebuck says in the opening.
    3. The US Navy had been shelling the area for three days prior to the ground forces' arrival, resulting in the area being devastated. But here, these buildings seem almost intact.
    4. The castle and the surrounding area in the background in the last stand section after Roebuck/Polonsky's death is based on the 1992 reconstruction of the castle.
    5. Some of the American soldiers are wielding M1 Carbines that are incorrectly named the M1A1, which is a paratrooper variant with a folding stock.
    6. It's unlikely to find an Arisaka with a scope attached on the ground, as Japanese soldiers were not known for their optics.
    7. The way Miller is holding the M1919 is doable IRL (that is wrapping the barrel with a wet towel to hold it), but after firing 30 rounds or so the towel would catch fire and would burn it and his hand.
    8. The ring iron sight on the Garand is too big.

    • @ahmadsuleman9045
      @ahmadsuleman9045 5 месяцев назад +6

      The point about the scopes is wrong. The scope on the Arisaka type 99 is real (type 97 2.5x telescopic sight), and was mounted on Arisaka type 99 sniper variants. Plus, scoped arisakas are pretty rare in game, so it's not really innacurate

    • @NostalgicGamerRickOShay
      @NostalgicGamerRickOShay 5 месяцев назад +2

      The weapons handling in this game is extremely inaccurate and you need to play a middle of Honor Pacific assault to get something far more realistic.
      Getting hit with an M1 Garand knocks you on the ground dead whereas the enemy can brush it off in this game.
      The bolt action rifle should be the most accurate weapon in the game like it is and all the middle of water games and yet for some reason Call of Duty World at War makes it the least accurate gun.

    Tojo was the prime minister and orchestrator of the Japanese invasion of Asia and the Pacific. Calling the Japanese “Tojo” (which happens a few times in WaW) is just like calling Russian soldiers “Ivan” (after the Tsar, Ivan the Terrible). But also the funny thing about Shuri Castle is that it was an acting or *the* acting military HQ after the Tokyo fire bombing (the reason for this mission happening; which I don’t know if it actually took place or got past stage 1 irl) which meant Hideki Tojo, the man, could very well have been hiding if he was among the men holding the castle. He’s also a textbook subject of the term “ultra-militarism” through which he transformed Japan and her subjects into a much darker vision of the evil Tokugawa Shogunate (a brutal and repressive medieval military dictatorship). Ironically since it actually unified feudal Japan for a time it’s kind of the trend setter for the (reduced) borders of the modern Japanese state afaik.
    The Rising Sun is still used by the Japanese Self Defense Forces as a naval ensign as per Japanese tradition. As far as I know it was never the official flag of Japan kinda like the swastika but the was the intention of the Swastika, the Rising Sun as an idea just represents Japan as a nation technically not particularly war and genocide. The same Sun also being Japan’s Civil banner just centered not rising. I used the Rising Sun for a little art project in High School on developing images out of negative cutouts and I added a disclaimer to my statement on it that I did not support the historical and real crimes of Japan, its military, its monarchy or its people nor do I support absolute monarchy or other dictatorships on principle.
    Another thing people have pointed out is Roebuck’s insistence we would all be “going home” upon mission success while the Marines had zero idea about the Manhattan Project and globally it was assumed they would participate in an invasion of the Japanese home Islands but also Roebuck could’ve just been saying it’s the hard part of their tour and he didn’t expect an invasion of Japan to be as big of a deal for Paulson’s Raiders maybe he thought they’d rotate with another unit before then once the main mission of their unit (Marine Raiders being specialized “small” island hoppers) was completed.

    You could throw mortars like grenades after removing the safety pin and slaming the tail against a sturdy surface.
    It is very dangerous as any further contact will set the mortar off, and they have a much larger kill/injury radius. You'd better throw if far. Two soldiers are credited with doing this successfully

    bushido isnt an accurate representation of japan's society pre or post ww2, but it definitely encapsulates imperial japan during the war. Bushido was invented shortly after the west forced japan to open itself to trade, it was theorized by Japanese nationalists to romanticize historical shogunates and create a false national and moral identity that could be retroactively applied to any figure that could be seen as supporting that belief system.

      @@theterriblepandaAs stated on Wikipedia: "While Japan considers the rising sun flag part of its history, many in Korea, China, Russia, Taiwan and other Asian countries say the flag is associated with Imperial Japan's wartime atrocities, the Axis of World War II, and is comparable to the flag of Imperial Japan's WWII ally, the Nazi swastika." In other words, people from those parts of the world as well as ancestors in the west my find the flag offensive. The flag is still used by Japan's Self Defense Force today, but because of it's WW2 related history it remains controversial. This is why some people may not want to go giving it to people as a tattoo, it would be like asking for a swastika tattoo to some people. That said most people in the west probably won't find the flag offensive or relate it to war-crimes. Just like the reverse is true for the swastika, the majority of the western world finds it offensive, but most of the eastern world does not. Aka it all depends on the cultural context.

Not only because all wooden buildings had been leveled by artillery and air strikes, but also because the Japanese didn't put up much defense for the castle. The Japanese began a withdrawal four days before the Marines flanked Shuri. The only resistance left in the area were rearguard units in front of the Shuri town, which was actually in the US Army's area of operations.
      The developers just needed a cool set piece for the final level, even if reality is much more underwhelming.
