- Today I'm trying out the game Uboat, a submarine simulator where you command a Uboat through WW2. It's a really fun game that's an easy recommend and here are my first few hours into a fresh campaign.

Bro forgot to heat the torpedoes
Uboat bros.
@@AHersheyHere it's donitzfelly joevërn
And 90 degrees angle especially with those early war ones
yeah impact fuse on that angle is just asking for dud's.
Wait you have to heat torpedoes?
"The Seltic sea"
The Irish will remember that.
I'm American and that was driving me up the wall!
Trust me, we’re used to it.
The Scots have a famous football team called Celtic, but they pronounce it Selltic, so it’s deemed interchangeable by us “Kelts” 😜
Had no clue. We have a basketball team called the Celtics pronounced 'Seltics' so that's how I thought it was pronounced.
@@guyfromcollege Haha thats totally fair, I pretty much assumed it was because of the sports team.
The word Celtic can be pronounced Keltic or Seltic. Both are correct.
If only College could micro the side of a merchant ship
Edit: After watching the video, merchant ships and corvettes are too much, but a Battleship and Escort Carrier are easy dubs
In all seriousness, it is easier sinking a battleship and carrier that don’t see you, they are much larger, and slower, carriers are only bad if the planes on said carrier can manage a response fast enough or are already patrolling
TBF, that is pretty realistic. After all corvettes and destroyers were bane to submarines and merchant ships are kinda fast (IIRC)
Merchant ships are slow af@@Aurilion44
Definitely need a series on this! The game looks hella cool!

He didnt read the hundred pages manual, even though it's free along with the game.
I'm sure this kaleun haven't taste the struggle trying to get correct vessel speed, AoB, and distance in full hardcore without stabilization periscope.
@@asaifaji you dont need to read a manual. when youre in port when you buy your topedos it tells you that you need a near 90 degree hit angle (for T1 P1 which he used) and before combat he shouldve heated the torpedos. it tells you this in the tutorial which is pretty easy to follow

The IRL raid on Scapa Flow had extra significance for the Kriegsmarine as that's where the Hochseeflotte scuttled itself after WW1 rather than be handed over to the French and British navies
„Es wird fortgesoffen.”
The British would have scraped all the ships anyway so it was no loss for Britain, France on the other hand wanted a full quarter of Germany's fleet.
It was a huge loss for the British considering how pissed they were at the Germans for doing so.
@@ChrisCrossClash Britain was fairly looking forward to capture a intact over the horizon radar from Germanys WW1 Battleships, but never did.
@@roberthartburg266 What are you going on about? you serious, yes the British were annoyed they did it in front of their faces, but Britain seriously didn't care what happened to the German fleet, the Royal Navy was twice as big as the German anyway, Britain won the war anyway so they didn't care.
At 13:10 when you tried to hit the corvets the issue wasnt the accuracy of the torpedoes but the travel depth! Idk how you call it in english but due to the fact that corvets are very light their bows only reach about a meter into the water so your torpedoes just went under them!
Aswell if you shoot two torpedoes the game messures the spread by what you picked, divides that in half and lets the torpedoes hit that far away from where they would have hit by default. Due to this fact you should never shoot torpedoes with spread when the ships are small!
PS:
The higher the angle of the torpedo the higher the likelyhood of a dud :)
yeah i thought that might be the depth was an issue when I was editing this, thanks for confirming it. I'll remember this for later
Ah, so corvettes should be shoot at with magnetic detonator active?
Recently done the enigma mission and thought it was a bug that the torpedo just went under the ship.
@@molybdaen11 yes and no, early war detonaters are very unreliable and the magnetic ones especially, they often explode early, wait until they have the p2
detonater
@@guyfromcollege Also, try to hit ships directly from the side, you want the lowest degree hit possible.
It's actually fairly rare to have a dud on the settings you were on as long as you hit the ship from the side.

I actually remember a video of another RUclipsr I watch playing this game…. Like 5 years ago. To be totally honest I thought this game was just abandoned, so for it after all this time to still be worked on and now be fully released is awesome
Not even just worked on. If you select the "unstable" build of the game, you'd see that they basically patch some little thing every few days lol. As of this moment my comment will be posted, there's 8 patches for August.
@@ach3909 the earliest video I ever saw of this game was from the RUclipsr graystillplays. So yeah for a (presumably) single dev to do this stuff that fast is really cool

Thats some Xcom shit
He set them to run too deep, the solution was solid, as can be seen by the torpedoes running right under the center of the ship.
The 1% right there was the 100% miss...
@@Chrinik Exactly what I thought lol. Why didn't he surface?
@@gratefulguy4130 torpedo running depth is independent from uboat depth. You can set your torpedoes to run on the surface while being 10 meters below.
My dad is a ship captain, took surveyors to Scapa flow to 3D map the wreck of the Royal Oak! The scans are awesome to look at 😃
This looks pretty cool, just like those classic u-boat games from the 2000's or when ever those all came out

"What's the name of your uboat, Captain?"
"USS Tang."
"Very weird name for a german uboat, but your record speaks for itself. Carry on."
Always good to see more Uboat content out there. For the duds where it says AZ you can click that and turn it to Magnetic. Angles don't matter on magnetic detonated but AZ (impact) they do. You can also spend your reputation to research tech and upgrade the boat if you have a spare officer in port. The last one has a 20mm Flak 38 which is the quad barrel AA!
Dude! Your awesome for playing this game! I've been playing it for 3 days now and I hated how I kept missing my torpedoes, but now I understood that my officers can do it, I'll have all the fun I want forever!
Each of those torpedoes costs about as much as a house. Let that sink in for a minute.
Okay, the sink has been in my house for a minute, what now?
Those Ships are sinking alright.
The ships and the materials on it, are worth way more then torpedos
Funny how in-game, the torpedoes are free, but AA-gun ammo costs currency.
That depends on the Torp now.

I love this game, I usually play this with 98% realism, plotting the torpedo course manully is just so satisfying.
Also order your engineer to conduct torpedo maintenance before the attack to reduce duds
Have played and have seen guides on manual targeting, but never understood. How difficult would you say it is to learn?
@@2Links pretty easy actually, especially when you have the map icons on.
Its also from my experience faster and more reliable than the ai.
You can do everything from the periscope just wait until you have a good 90° angle on the enemy ship if you dont want to cheat with the map tools
@@Tacom01 great, will give it a shot next time I get the urge to play! thanks for the answer
only way to play tbh
@@2Links Once you understand what the meassurements necessary are, and how you aquire them manually, the Torpedo Data Computer does all the heavy lifting. You use a stopwatch and let the ship travel bow to stern across your periscope, which gives you speed, you reference the book on how long the ship is, do some math or look up a table for the time conversion. Same for distance, you measure the ship mast to waterline, which lets you estimate distance, then you need to know angle on bow, and the TDC basically calculates the firing solution based on simple trigonometry.
Please more of this, this is peak content
In total, 66 attacks were recorded by the Brazilian Navy on German submarines in the South Atlantic, which resulted in the damage or sinking of 18 submarines off the Brazilian coast, of which nine - U-128, U-161, U-164, U-199 , U-513, U-590, U-591, U-598 and U-662 - were officially recorded by the German Navy as having been sunk by the Brazilian Navy.

Reminds me of ol' Silent Hunter 3 and 4. Late war in 3 was hell on Earth. 4 meanwhile had the problem of the campaign getting *easier* the longer it went on because you played US submariners in the Pacific. Props to 4 for the authentic Mark 14 torpedo experience. You don't know what true rage is if you haven't spent over 2 hours sneaking up and setting up a perfect shot on a japanese carrier, firing your forward tubes, watching them run straight and true right into that flattops' side... and then hearing four *CLUNK!* sounds in rapid succession.
Ryan Gosling has almost my last name. When you said, 'I am playing as myself,' I was like, wait? this dude is my family?!
you are really him
That opening reminded me of the loading screens from Call of Duty World at War
Good, cause that's what I as going for
10:10 my guy seems very unconcerned that you're shooting AA right over his head
Proper Prussian discipline right there.
This was a lot of fun, hope to see another video on this game
Great memories, sharing a bed with a guy that hadn’t washed for 3 months, constantly having a headache from bad air. Grandad had some great stories
The game looks good but I feel like SH3 GWX captured that Das Boot feeling better. That constant "ping" sound from destroyers and depth charge explosions when you are underwater hoping it to be all over was pure terror.
you haven't been depth charged by 2 destroyers and 7 corvettes detecting you by pinging 3 times a second from 2km away in UBOAT?
@@redactedcanceledcensored6890 haven't played uboat yet (don't have my pc atm) but I'm gonna play it and if I don't get spotted 30kms away in foggy weather and then get depth charged 74957 times and get forced to stay underwater for years until the war is over like in SH3 GWX I will conclude that UBOAT is for filthy casuals and refund.
The allies get better tech as the campaign goes on, pings constant and hedgehogs ripping you apart
@@ak74udieby yeah we just need enemy subs hearing us on the hydro from 100+km away and hunting us down 😈

0:18. They keep forgetting this lesson
damn man is making me want to play UBOAT, keep it up micro-er of barns
Glad to see the channel popping off College bros keep up the good work!
Such a good run that embodies the challenges of this game and the feeling of success after a successful run.
When it comes to aircraft its usually best to just crash dive as soon as you spot it, rather than risk damage or death from the depth charges. At least that worked in pre-release.
Funnily even in RL they often choose to fight them. Its way harder for Depth charges damage you while you are not diving.
@@MaugriMGER when I played pre-release I would usually have enough time to dive before the bombers would spot me so I wouldn't have to deal with depth charges at all. As for why they fought back IRL, it is probably because bombers had much worse aim IRL and it's even harder to hit a fast moving and shooting back target, where as you can see ingame you have to get quite lucky to avoid any damage. But that's just speculation.
war crime simulator with ryan gosling?? greatest movie eveeerr 😂
Herr Kaleun Gosling
BTW the AA gun especially the later quad model works really well sinking merchants. AP for damaging the hull at the waterline and HE for starting fires. The Alexandria mission is crazy because you can drop a few magnetic torpedos to break the back of the docked warships, then surface and use the deck gun to hit the little shore guns, and then sail right up to the ships sinking them with impunity.
Also you need to set course to zig zag when a bomber is going after you
My GOD I love this game soo much. You really do get sucked into it and it is soo well made. And super easy to learn! I REALLY do recommend this y'all
A good tip for deck gun usage against freighters:
When you shoot a ships hull shoot at one point for a bit to make a hole and fire like 1 or 2 shots in that hole and repeat until its health is gone then you wait for it to flood
ive been a huge fan of this game since early access, the new subs are so damn cool!
God tier thumbnail, props!
my favorite start is december 1944 in the arctic, its dark and scary.. almost horror gameish
The battleship you sunk at Scarpa flow looks more like a Nelson class. With all its main armament forward. Given how important the sinking of royal oak was to the U-boat campaign I'm surprised the game developers made that mistake. That's my pedantic rant over looks a decent game , thanks
Please make this into a series
I just want to say that the shots at the corvettes were spot on, it was just that you set the dispersion so high that while the center of the spread was right on target, the torpedoes were spread out so much they went on either side of the target.
The depth was the problem why they dont exploded. They could not hit them.
@MaugriMGER Not the first two spreads, they ran right aft and astern from the targets, but with perfect spacing. The default setting should allow you to hit all corvettes in the game though, so unless he messed with the depth settings depth shouldn't be an issue. I think the last one just went right past, but the corvette sailed through the wake afterwards.
The little resistance after sinking the royal oak is accurate. The British navy had thought the ship suffered from several internal explosions and didn’t start looking for an attacking uboat until it had already escaped scapa flow
Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing you make a series of this game. It seems refreshingly different.
I bought it in early access but never really started a campaign. I was waiting for the 1.0 release. So, I started a campaign. Did all the tutorials. Accepted my first patrol. All my crew went nuts, died and I got lost before I even encountered a ship. I think I'll start again amd pay more attention to my crew 😂
I like how royal oak sinking in a spa flow is based on historical accuracy, but they just used a model of a completely different battleship class (HMS Nelson or HMS Rodney)
Your gameplay is awesome keep it up with this game I like to see more videos like this to see what will happen next in the campaign
I really like the narration you did at the beginning, you should look into covering some important historical events in that manner.
This is actually a really cool video idea 👍
Well, if you hit a boat with a torpedo at a very pointy angle, chances are that an impact detonator will not recognize an impact and the torpedo will just bounce off (that's why you had so many duds). Try aiming for a 90° angle if possible, or use magnetic detonators!
And yeah, hitting tiny ships like corvettes is hard lol!
And I can't believe you had such an easy time in Scapa Flow, I showed up at night, and there were so many destroyers and corvettes, and I hit a mine at some point. I barely got out lol!
Did it a few hours ago and it was really clear, sadly i went in with the first sub and basic torpedoes soo oak ate 5 and didnt have any left for the carrier
I'd definitely love to see more Uboat vids! This game reminds me of watching OneFJef's Silent Hunter videos and I'm glad to see the genre's still getting games.
College couldn't micro the side of a ocean.
i swear i have never seen this video but i felt heavy deja vu at 11:30 and i knew exactly what was gonna happen after
16:01 that’s either the hms Rodney or hms Nelson btw, I don’t know why the game called it the royal oak other than for historical sake
The devs are using the model as a placeholder for now since their focus is on fixing any bugs and other issues with the game right now but that caught me off guard too lol
It only has a couple larger ship models.
Copyright issues, they would likely not be allowed to profit from heritages. This game is not free, therefore unlikely they'd be able to use them.
@yunsha9986 there's quite a few games that use their likeness without license. Unless the devs are UK-based I doubt this would be a problem.
@@thelordofcringe That's true, in that case I wouldn't know the actual reason why they decided not to use the real ship names.

I thought this game was cancelled or incomplete. It's been years since I've last seen footage of this game and I really enjoyed the gameplay
16:16 I always find the Royal Oak Sinking quite Sad due to how many children were on board

Imagine ww2 bobg barotrauma
Next time try to reduce the torpedo depth when attacking small units to around 2m deep. For big transport ships around 5-7,5m under water. For destroyer ~3,5m and those small canoniers 1,5m. But in the later years of the war do not attack destroyers. This will result with almost every torpedo spotted when you will miss
I love how we get an honest-to-God, genuine Dankus-moment with the ice cold torps😂
You convinced me, I just bought it.
I used to play Silent Hunter, but since Ubi went to shit I haven't. I saw this on my Steam page occasionally, but am very wary of early access games and didn't buy it. Now I have and that's just because you happened in a suggested video.
Dude, you are suposed to preheat the torpedoes before shooting, if you don't, they will very likely fail to explode even if the hit the target; if you haven't preheated them and are close to the convoy and haven't been discovered, stalk them some docen miles, it'll do the trick
dang it's been a while since I've watched some of your videos, glad you're still posting! Entertaining as always

When in a bad angle better try magnetic than impact torpedoes. Also it sometimes rips the ships apart an sinks them imidiately.
That percentage is not a chance to hit. It’s your solution to target (basically all gathered info like speed, distance, angle and its accuracy). The fact you missed was due to large range. For corvettes it’s hard to hit shots >1km. Generally it’s best to fire early game torpedoes from about 1,5km.
The torps were to deep for those small ships.
Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Absolute banger. Need more of this
Always preheat your torpedoes and if you aim beneath the shops, use magnetic detonator instead hahaha.
The Keanu clip is ironic while I finish my Cyberpunk playthrough.
