There's actually a mod for this game with plutonium. I downloaded it all recently and the mod adds bots to multiplayer. The ai is actually smart and you can change the difficulty. But it simulates real people and uses real tactics like bunny hopping and going prone. Even can use killstreaks and equipment. I highly recommend it
Although it may be a nail bitingly, painstakingly, bumper to bumper, mind bogglingly close debate, World at War takes the *#1 Call of Duty of all time* title, with Black Ops 1 as the runner up force to be reckoned with.
This server is quite active most days, and it works in both plutonium and retail clients. In pluto you'll have to manually connect with IP using the command console. This won't show up in the server browser.
Ive played the solo mode for ever and i still love it to this day, ive not ever tried online, i don`t have that purchased, is it any good and is it still busy and free of hackers?
I have the original non steam version from 2008, which still works online. If you have just recently bought the steam version and you are stuck in creating online profile, Plutonium T4 is the only way to play multiplayer. Unfortunately, player count on plutonium servers is quite low. Another option is to find a pre-owned DVD copy of world at war. But I get that most people don't even have a DVD drive anymore so it might not be an option for you.

I bought mine pre-owned at a local second hand shop. You might also find them from sites like ebay. It's quite a hassle and I'd almost recommend sticking to Plutonium if it's still alive.
The game doesn't have bots by default. For new players, only the single player and solo mode in zombies work in the steam version. If you have bought the steam version before 2021, the multiplayer should work too.

what really sticks with me about the old CODs is the maps. they feel like they had thought and heart put into each. more recently not so much

On PC, 30-100 players online daily. Some days are slower, some busier. Hacking isn't a problem. The online community is small but active.
