  • Today, I took a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited 4XE out for a spin to see what I thought of it. Unfortunately, the pure electric didn’t even work! What’s up with that? Our daughter Katie who lives in Florida misses the Jeep she had bought in 2018, and sold in 2021. Maybe it's time for her to get back to the Jeep thing; but this time with a dose of Plug in Hybridness?
A big Cameo shout out to our son Kyle for making an appearance in this video from an Out of Spec Reviews video he recorded about the 4XE Jeep back in 2022

Please note that the 4XE Jeep Wrangler actually qualifies for a $7,500 Federal Tax credit on a lease with no income restrictions and $3,750 on a purchase with the AGI limitations

Last year I traded in my Jeep for a 2023 Mitsubishi phev that gets 45 miles of pure electric range. It's been great absolutely no problem and very easy to put it in pure electric mode.

Sounds like the jeep was in FORM mode. Fuel Oil Refresh Mode. A normal mode to make sure the gas and oil are not going bad. It is in FORM for about 20 miles. I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and love it. My commute to work and back is always in electric. In one year I have only spent $270 in gas. When I take long trips it is nice to have an ICE.

    • @duaneannie

@@ArbitraryFilmings the Jeep grand Cherokee gets better gas mileage because of his aerodynamics. I drive 18 miles each way to work and home. I use a level two charger at home and a level one charger at work and I never burn gas on the weekdays. Weekends if I go over 28 miles I will start burning gas. I should also say that form mode comes on for different reasons. And not very often at all. Almost every new four by E that I tested was in form mode for some reason or another. It only takes 20 miles to clear it out of form mode. I think I have had my car in form four times in the 14 months I have owned it. It came on once when the oil needed to be changed. I cleared the oil change message and form turned off.

You are TOTALLY LYING!!!!!! I also own one. It always goes into FORM mode once a week. Dealer says it's normal and won't fix it. I put over $300 in it monthly.

@@miman5082 I know four people that own 4xes and they get between 25 to 28 mpg in electric only mode with the 2 Grand Cherokee 4xes. The Wrangler 4xe owners say they both get around 22 mpg in electric only mode. If you're putting in $300 a month it sounds like there's a problem with your 4xe system. Even if you're in hybrid mode all the time you should be getting better gas mileage than that.

Had the FORM pop up 75 kms into ownership. One gas tank later I have yet to see it again. I own 2024 Wrangler Sahara 4xe. Got it with 45 kms on it. I now have 3000 kms of which over 53% is electric. Love my Jeep, had a full tank for over 4 weeks, and haven’t used a drip of it.

Hey Dave, thanks for the video, if that small amount of gas has been sitting in there a while, filling the car with gas will sometimes bring it back to EV mode, which will only work if you keep it under half throttle, or the gas engine will pop on

you need to get it out of town and warm the engine oil to 190F to burn off gas building up in the engine oil. Normal and necessary. I have it and don't love FORM, but understand why it needs to happen. Drive it in Electric or drive it in ICE. Don't start and stop the gas engine short cycles. It's a learning curve for sure.

    • @emperorzurg4707

@@1971chadwick You're correct Chadwick, this is something that needs to be explained to anyone before they purchase this vehicle. My wife got ours stuck in FORM last year. So now I make sure I run the ICE over 190F for 15-20 minutes a week. It's easy enough- I just always use E-Save on the freeway.

The Jeep with soft top is not theft proof in places where enyone can pull off the soft cover in the back and get access to inside car belongings. The hard top is better in that aspect. Besides road noise is worse with soft top. It is harder to keep heat inside when is really cold outside and vice versa to keep air conditioned when it is really hot outside. Unless the driver is a hard core off roader the soft top has only drawbacks.

“Why would she *need* a Jeep Wrangler in Florida?”, some people say.
Because it’s not dorky like a Rav-4. Jeeps look cool, and that’s the big part that matters to someone who is drawn to Jeeps. Jeep people are willing to put up with a hard noisy ride in order to drive a car that excited them.

I rented a Grand Cherokee 4xe recently. It was an awful vehicle. Drove like, well, a clunky jeep SUV. No HUD and no adaptive cruise was ridiculous.
The battery was a joke. I got it up to 12% charge while driving and the range indicator said 3 miles. Wow.
Sport mode had a lot of pickup, more than I expected.

    • @fiehlsport
      @fiehlsport Месяц назад

Well, it’s a plug-in hybrid. The battery isn’t going to charge to 100% on its own. It’s a normal hybrid if you don’t plug it in - you can’t expect tangible electric range without charging it. That goes for any plug-in hybrid.

Imagine, the ICE version of the Jeep is an insanely unreliable vehicle. That brand has a TERRIBLE name with mechanics. I worked in a garage, I know what I'm talking about. Imagine the electric version. They can't even get old ICE technology right. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole !! My older son liked Jeeps, now he understands what junk they are.
AND Ford Bronco.... if you have one... you'd better sell it before your engine explodes! Those are complete crap also. Safe to just steer clear of anything Chrysler touches!

My brother-in-law had one of the very early units of this model, a couple years ago. He loved it, but eventually it refused to work on electric-only. The dealer told him that the Chrysler engineers told them that he wasn't driving it on gas enough! He was using it for mostly local trips and charging it (for free) at a local parking lot that has free Level 2 chargers. Anyway, the dealer could not fix it so he traded it back and got a conventional jeep. Too bad, he loved driving it on electric and said he would definitely get an EV. But then he soured on it when the car wouldn't work, and went back to gas. Presumable Stellantis has worked out the bugs in the drive train...or have they?! This might be the sort of troubles that result in Consumer Reports' data showing that PHEV have lower reliability than non-plug-in hybrids. (And as you say, the Jeep Wrangler has one of the lowest reliability ratings of all cars.) But people love them!
