My Tesla had been flawless. I know people that buy cars all the time that have issues. One woman here took her car in like 15 times and still wasn't fixed. Knew someone with a Honda and it kept having issues. My Honda CR-V has issues with sensors. Had to get it looked at. So to say others don't have issues is crazy.

People go into the Tesla EV game knowing they have typical and occasional QC issues. It's when it happens to yourself when we hear the issues. And Tesla knows this. They think you can either 1. live with it. or 2. take it up with their service department. Either way, people are going to buy it because it is 'good enough'. We've been hearing it for many years. Tesla knows they're getting away with it given the reputation and market surveys. The sad part is that there are better fit & finish QC in much cheaper vehicles and what I'm afraid what it does is it lowers the consumer standard of what it should be and it becomes reflected on other automakers to lower their QC standards. Especially if you're a market leader. Take Apple for example. Vote with your wallet, not with luck. Eventually it will catch up with them (sales go down, or the service dpts dpts are overwhelmed). It's just not now.

Sure, it can only peak charge (at a SC) 170kW for a short burst but we rarely sat on the hook longer than 12 minutes before the car would notify us it was ready to leave and on to the next SuperCharger on our route. We LOVE the LFP battery and the car overall. Congrats on your Highland Model 3 RWD Dave. Looking forward to that challenge with Will. Thanks man.

Hi David thanks again for a great video. I had rattling going on in my Highland just after a short while of ownership. It turned out to not be inside the ventilation system. It was inside the camera house in front window behind the rear view mirror. Had the exact same issue in my Volvo I was driving before the Tesla. Don't know if that is the same problem you have. But it is good to tell the service centre if they can't find any problem inside the vent system, that it can be a total different error. When I got it in the Volvo I first thought it came from the vent system. It sounded the same in the Tesla. Fortunately I could tell my mechanic at Service Centre because he and the boss couldn't find the problem until I told them about the Volvo issue...and they immediately found the problem in the camera house. Otherwise the car has been flawless. No creeking or other issues.

I went to the showroom and changed my order to a M3LR with the color options I wanted. With those options it put me it reduced my savings to $4500, but it also puts me in the car in one week as opposed to 2 or 3 months from now and that projection is still liable to have shifted quite a bit based on production changes to accommodate the new demand the M3LR is going to get.

I have a M3 long range. Got it may 5. This is my first EV and I just did a week long road trip from Long Island to Michigan then all over Michigan and back, 2100 miles total. I found the trip an incredibly civilized way to road trip. Stopping for 15 or 20 mins or even longer at some stops is not an issue. After 2 to 3 hours driving between stops I needed to get out and stretch my legs and bathroom break and at some even close my eyes. I never felt like I was waiting for the car to finish. She always said she was ready to go before I was. So yes it seems like I got the not so great battery and paid the highest price (I have white on white and 18 inch wheels), I completely love this car and am very very happy with my Helen Wheels. The average for this trip was 227Wh/mile

Thanks for the videos Dave and good to know some of the things to look for when I'm picking up our new Model 3 RWD tomorrow. I live in Europe (Denmark) so our Model 3 is from the Shanghai factory. I'm not sure if that makes any difference but I think I read somewhere that Giga Shanghai is supposed to make the cars with fewest quality issues (at least at the time of writing but that was last year so things could have changed).
Btw. we currently don't get offered the cheap financing here but I got 5.000 km of free supercharging instead and the prices have never been lower than they currently are. However, the current prices might not last since the EU has just increased tariffs on EVs from China (including Teslas from Giga Shanghai) so Model 3 prices here are expected to increase from July 1st. I know that a new car is always going to be a depreciating asset and that something better is certain to come along in the future but compared to most people who bought a Tesla in recent years I think my timing might actually be pretty good for this reason.

Dave, Cycle testing of LFP cells in labs results in about 3x the cycle life of NCM and NCA cells. However packs may fail due to corrosion, water intrusion, contactor failure, circuit board failure, etc. If none of those get your pack, and you don’t drive a lot of miles per year, calendar life may run out before cycle life.

Tesla not allowing lease buyouts just is mind blowing, so many more people would lease. I'd have strongly considered it.

Do walk down to the beach where the Landing occured. My family's (from Mass.) trip to Normandy changed my life and really made me appreciate what the Allied Forces endured and sacrificed for the world. Pointe du Hoc (three miles west of Omaha Beach) is worth the time and quite moving.

Your drive in France with the Model Y you will find the charging infrastructure far and above what you get in the US that includes non-Tesla chargers some are better than the supercharger sites as some have roofs, window washing, bins, etc. I follow Electrix Felix who lives in the EU and France has amazing charging infrastructure just don't try to speed or the gendarmerie will be helping themselves to hundreds of Euros out of your wallet as Jeremy & Richard(Top Gear) found out the hard way.

RWD vs LR is clear when you plug in your road trips into ABRP. Fewer stops, faster charging times are clear when your road tripping. If your not road tripping then it really doesn't much matter. It is all about that charging curve and charging speed. Your charging off the bottom of the pack and only up to what you need for your next stop. The LR has a clear advantage. Plug in the two cars in ABRP and you will see the difference, not just guess or feel. Is the LR worth the huge price spread? For many it won't be worth big bucks, but with only $1000 spread? That is a no brainer.

I'd almost prefer a LR LFP. I want the AWD and acceleration performance, as well as the longevity of LFP, but the actual range isn't really any different and neither is the down low charge curve. I am looking forward to seeing some of the next gen CATL and BYD LFP tech that they're promising. Could definitely be the way to go for the bulk of EVs, especially once we lean more about the degradation and failure rates after the 1-7ish year honeymoon period of EVs and things start getting old and we get more examples of high cycle count batteries.

I love your dedication to the EV lifestyle, but it's time to be brutally honest. Tesla has built enough Model 3s and Model Ys to have worked out the kinks and improve their quality. While there have been changes, the problems that you experienced should have been resolved long ago. And why aren't these things being caught in Quality Control at the factory or the delivery center? This is not okay. And no one should feel that this is acceptable.

  • @Weezedog

It was inevitable something had to change with the M3 LR, it was more expensive than the Performance when factoring the tax credit. It's a market distortion, and either the price had to come down or they had to figure out a way to get the tax credit. Everyone was predicting the LR would eventually qualify again. With Tesla sales down, it makes sense they would no longer need to source the LG battery packs.

From my understanding, the long range is better for shorter charging times. It would take much longer at a super charger to charge the RWD to 100% than the LR to charge to 80% to get the same range of miles...that's one advantage of the LR model 3.

Oh one more thing: I test drove the 2024 M3 RWD on February 9, 2024 accompanied by a Tesla rep. By the way, they were never able to fix everything. Some things I just had to live with….like a random window rattle on right turns.
Yes, things have improved overall, but there are still too many issues.
And before you say all companies have these issues, yes, other companies have these issues, but not at the same level that Tesla has. Come on.

I know some people have stock in the company as I do and are big Elon fans, but I’m sorry this is unacceptable. You’ve got to be objective here.
