    If you want to explore this topic further you should in future see if you can get Jason on from Engineering Explained he has some amazing videos out and uses science & math to show how smaller tires are more efficient. Also why EV tires are different to non-EV tires.

      Jason. Engineering Explained around 2018/2019, hit a pothole on an Interstate with his M3 Performance with 20" wheels. Took out both right side wheels as I recall. $2800.00. That alone dissuaded me from wheels with less cushioning rubber. YT video still up.
      2024 M3 Performance is tantalizing from Kyle's demo. He suggested 18" wheels. It's only money. Excellent discussion gentlemen.

    Thanks for having Drew. I am picking up my new Model Y Performance tomorrow and selling the wheel set as I live in Telluride and have a narrow window for summer tires and certainly do not need 21” massive rims. Anyone interested? I will be picking up some smaller diameter Martins!

      @@johnpoldo8817 My take from the discussion is that All-Season tires are not good for winter (cold) weather. All-Weather tires are better in those conditions.

    great information thank you. Now I would love to see one done on tires for tread design and materials for wear and noise level. Can you get a long lasting tire that is very quiet but still performs well in all weather.

    Hi Dave! Fantastic video providing detailed explanation of the importance of wheel size/composition - way overdue. Most consumers place blind faith in the manufacturer making the best selection. And putting all the physics aside, I no longer drive around our potholed roads in the NE checking the tire pressure upon each pothole impact (additionally to all the other benefits you and Drew articulated that is provided with a smaller wheel for my type of driving).

    I am at 52,000 miles on my model three dual motor long range and I still have some tread life left on my first set of tires..
    Increasing inflation pressure helps as they were originally wearing more on the shoulders. Tesla recommended the increase about 8mos. After I increased mine based on observation.

    I bought new tires for my Model 3 long range a couple of months ago. This video was so helpful (I did ok I think, but I'm better prepared for next time). What I haven't done is looked at my efficiency and how it might have changed. Is there anyway to go back in time an get efficiency data to see what if any impact the new tires have?

    I've been saying this for years a Tesla Model S Base 85Kwh with a 15in or 16in wheel @ 14 or 15LBS and a 19 Lb Tire would get almost long-range levels of range the improvement would blow your minds. With Tesla's you would need to decrease the Rotor Size to a 12 or 13in rotor.

    I assume rolling resistance affects stopping distance?
    Does a 22 inch wheel compared to an 18 inch wheel fitted with the same diameter tires improve the efficiency or do you also need to reduce the diameter of the tire to get the benefit of a smaller wheel?
    To prevent air pockets couldn't you cast under a vacuum?
    @martianwheels?

    Question: The new Chevy Equinox EV reports a range of 319 miles on the FWD 2LT trim with 19 inch wheels but also 319 miles on the FWD 3LT trim with 21 inch wheels. Is this possible? Doesn't seem to make sense.

    • @kiwi335d
      @kiwi335d 3 месяца назад

      If the 21 inch wheel and tire combination is actually lighter, then perhaps it could match or better the 19 inch wheel/tire setup. Of course, this is assuming that the outer circumference of each size tire is equal.

    You need *Aerodynamic* wheels to get better range at speed! Kyle Conner literally just said it on MotorTrend InEVitable Podcast! I have examples all over my channel getting 330-340 miles of range out of my 2022 Tesla Model 3 Performance because I put 19-in Aero Wheels and low-rolling resistance tires on it 😎

I’d really like to see an in-depth video of how and when to use the screen for everyday driving. Right now I’m not sure I could make the car move if I were sitting in it right now!!😂

    Camber is not only a Tesla issue. I’ve had two experiences where the inside shoulder wore right through to the canvas. BMW 520D tourer rear and Mercedes AMG front. With the modern vehicles having longer service intervals and the fault on the hard to see inside, neither tyre fault was picked up before it became critical.
    BTW I now drive EVs and am more observant of tyre wear.
