A beautiful American couple driving a Chinese EV car in UK! This is so anti-sanction! 🤣🤣👍✌️
Americans have the freedom.
@@user-vp1vl6yp9tThen why can’t we drive Chinese EVs in the US?
@@RedHotTopicsNowChinese can drive American Bentleys and Lincolns, but Americans can't drive Chinese BYD, which politicians call overcapacity😢
@@RedHotTopicsNow you asked why can’t we drive Chinese EVs in the US?
The answer is that Americans are free.
Americans have the freedom of not driving Chinese EVs in the US. Americans also have the freedom of sanctioning Chinese EVs.

I have a BYD, here in Brazil they are the most popular brand for electric cars ! I’m very happy with mine !
Ótimo! Aqui en Dorset já viu algumas.
😍
18 months driving a BYD Atto3. Working well, great drive, negligible maintenance cost and fuelled mostly from my rooftop.
smart idea!
Great!!
那相当于免费燃料,开车根本不需要花钱。你每次开车的费用是用来购买太阳能发电板的钱。

Try saying this: Hello BYD, open the sunroof.
The voice control can do a lot of things for you so you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
Remember Dave. Happy wife, happy life. Thanks for taking us along.

I own this Atto 3 and I am in love with it within 6 months of use. Watching this couple is so endearing! they look like bestfriends who fell in love :)
I'm glad the Chinese cars are giving competition to the legacy auto. My family have been buying Japanese cars for 3 decades. Over these three decades, I could see the quality has going down hill each year, while the price has gone uphill each year, and the maintenance and repair costs are also crazy. It is like they just didn't give a crap about what their customers think.
Yes, I agree with you.
@@godzillamothra5983 jap cars were rust buckets in the 70s to 80s until they galvanised the metal . They also achieved and refined smaller up to 2 litre multi valved reliable engines . I do believe China's EV and hybrid rapid development has caught them up.
Bought a BYD Dolphin to my daughter here in Malaysia and she love it so much 😊
Next year if petrol price up , more Malaysian will interest to buy ev car.. hope the hybrid BYD car come in Malaysia , with full tank can go 2000km++

Nice video and I really admire your courage for driving what is considered a major national security threat to the US government.

Hey Dave, I was living in Beijing in the early 2000s when BYD was starting up and they actively poached expat senior automotive engineers who were working in China for German auto manufacturers. These senior engineers laid the foundation in design and development of BYDs line. Your positive experience points to BYDs success. I can’t say that the other Chinese EV companies laid the same foundation in their start up, net BYD is the one to watch. Their growth in developing world countries due to price advantage bears watching for sure.
Every startup needs to poach talent, although BYD would no longer be considered one since they've been making cars for a good 20 years now. Supposedly Xiaomi heavily poached talent as they decided to build a car just over 3 years ago, and the first car they just launched has been very well received and is selling like hot cakes.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for grabbing the BYD. I am really interested in in that car. You guys just have fun with the drive. Love this.
These are everywhere in New Zealand. Im excited to watch this.
BYD sell almost 300k vehicles per month every month in China, the leading auto brand 🎉
Because you have no legacy car industry - enjoy your freedom!
Dave driving in Roundabouts is better than any amusement park ride I taken in the last couple years.
Watching as a Brit, it's hilarious to see them stopped thinking about how to do the first roundabout in Heathrow. 12:30
Thank goodness they didn't have to start with one of the challenging ones😉
WIfe and I were watching this video and she said our thirtieth is next year - we need to do Europe like Dave and his wife. I am booking the trip now.

Thanks for the video! It felt like I was on a 50-minute carpool adventure with you two. 😂
Kathy, you totally reminded me of my wife-always playing the role of the assistant driver when I'm behind the wheel. Fingers crossed for China’s EVs to hit the US market soon. One thing's for sure: consumers will be the real winners in that competition showdown!

great video and thanks Dave and Kathy great fun and glad that you took the BYD Atto 3 over the other cars, i have a BYD Seal now 7 months and enjoying it every time i drive it hi from Melbourne Australia
Byd is very popular here in Australia. Brits seem to be paying alot, Atto 3 retails for 30,000 usd in Australia. Byd build quality is imo better than tesla. The software on the other hand needs refinement the driver assistance is bad compared to tesla. Also, you can play smoke on the water with those door strings😂. BTW Kathy's sunglasses (if they're polarised) could be why she can't see the screen.
I am obviously not the only Australian that watches out of spec Dave lol
hmm really ...neat
also yeah the glasses can definitely do that unless they tried without the glasses

But I would say the current Chinese sourced Tesla fit and finish here is very good, much better than the earlier UsA sourced vehicles.

Hey, great vlog! You make a good team. When driving in the UK
Remember the mantra: keep left, look right.
It is good to hear a Westerner say something positive about China for a change. I first visited China in 1990, and there were hardly any cars; everyone was on bicycles. Last year, I went back to China. The town I had visited in 1990 had transformed into a modern city of skyscrapers with a metro and bullet trains. In 40 years, they've built a society that has improved the lives of ordinary Chinese, lifting 800 million people out of poverty, increasing GDP per capita from $200 to $12,000, and building the best infrastructure in the world with a high-speed rail network of over 40,000 km.
I just watched an American RUclipsr from Chongqing, a city in SW China, where
30-50% of cars on the road are "green-plated" EVs. He said, "Just listen for a minute. We're in a city of 35 million. There's traffic in front of us, but there's an absence of the noise of running IC engines.".
😄😄😄
Best and funniest car review ever. I can totally relate to Dave after our trip to New Zealand, when the wife says you’re driving too close to the edge of the road
@@clausmygind3319 Happen for the first period of driving and then it all clicks. I have the same issue when coming from Oz and driving in the USA. After a day, I’m fine.
Guide for Americans Driving in U.K.:
- Drive on left
- Do not turn left on red (right on red equivalent, it is illegal)
- Roundabouts you give way to traffic to your right or people already in the roundabout (do not give way to left or stop in the middle of the roundabout, it will cause confusion)
- On roundabout signal left for exit left, no signal for straight across, right signal for right exit then signal left to take the exit
- Do not undertake (left side of car)
- Move across to left most lane when possible unless overtaking (you can get a ticket)
- The speed limit on motorway is 70mph unless signed otherwise (the white circle with black line means national speed limit which is 60mph on country roads and 70mph on divided motorways)
- Our fuel is in litres but our cars are in miles per gallon and a gallon is 4.4 litres not 3.8 litres like in USA
- City/town speed limit is 30mph unless signed otherwise
- Get yourself a Greggs sausage roll
too much. If I were American, I gave up.
I never knew the US / UK gallon was different... that's a cockup waiting to happen haha.
Yes Greggs sausage roll is a must... providing its hot.
Is it illegal to undertake ?

@@edwardhochwand9063definitely not too much. If you're going to drive in a foreign country, you need to follow the rules.
BYD ATTO 3's name in China is Yuan PLUS, which is named after the dynasty. It is priced at 110,000-140,000 yuan (15,000-19,200 US dollars). It is the same price as the Corolla and is BYD's cheapest electric SUV.
Yeah but that's China only subsidized price. Double it for export markets. UK price OTR was listed as £38k. That's close to $50k. When a Chevy Equinox EV is $42k plus taxes, the BYD is not cheap.
@@AutoReport1😂😂😂 Chinese stopped the EV subsidies years ago. It's just the market in China is so competitive, it they don't sell it cheap, people will buy something else.
They don't have competition outside Mainland China, so they can sell their car with 300% mark up.
@@moss550 keep dreaming. Renault's Spring is half the price in China as well. The market outside China is competitive enough that GWM have up on selling Ora EVs in some. They couldn't cut the price to compete.
The two of you are just so funny together. Two very beautiful people with great personalities.
Agreed.
Welcome to England!
I saw the Atto 3 in a Shopping Mall in Malaysia. I wasn't keen on the musical design theme inside the car but the fit and finish, the build quality and the graphics are better than my eNiro in the UK.
BYD is best seller ev car in Thailand & Malaysia.. Sold 30.5k unit in Thailand at 2023 & Sold 3728 unit in Malaysia at 2023.. Malaysia we can always saw BYD atto 3 most , then BYD Seal & BYD Dolphin ... Unfortunately they never bring BYD Han into Malaysia market..
That skylight is very cool, and it poked my like. Imagine lying in the car counting the stars in the sky on a sunny summer night. Well, what a quiet life
Love your road trips guys! Also that you don´t know everything perfectly and admit it - part of the bantering. Really really good.

Given my experience of 20 years, I must assure you beyond any shade of doubt that the wife is right.
Loving your trip, the Atto 3 is under $50k(AUD) drive-away in Australia, it is a very affordable and good car. Doesn't charge super fast but still not terrible peak charging rate. Welcome to the RHD world as well as the round-abouts. Doesn't have one-pedal driving either but it was my 2nd choice for my latest. Go Kath, "Attention span of a squirrel", poor Dave but he did agree with you.
Really enjoyable video. Thank you. Looking forward to the next one 🇬🇧

Great video. I was in Exeter a couple of weeks ago, would have been rather surprised, to put it mildly, if I’d run into Out of Spec Dave while charging 😀
I like that Kathy recalled the line from the movie, Up! "Squirrel!", said by the dog, Dug, as he immediately interrupts a conversation when noticing a squirrel in the distance.
Stonehenge? Ah, let’s just drive by it!!!
Hey Cathy, do you have a “holy sh*t” bar? You could have used it going through those roundabouts. 😂😂😂😂
Love this video. You two are so good on camera together. 😃
Its soo much fun seeing you take a wrong turn in to my work carpark =). ID Buzz is the name you were looking for. Just had one as a rental for over two weeks in Sweden and it's brilliant! Welcome to Europe. Im a new subscriber from Sweden 🇸🇪. A friend of my drives a BYD Atto 3, its a very cheap EV, he pays only 276$ a month.
Can't believe you two are in the UK. Welcome home!! 😂
Kathy's sunglasses are probably polarized and when the screen is vertical the light polarization is opposite to her glasses and that's why she can't see the screen in that mode. I bet if she took her sunglasses off she could see the screen just fine in either mode. :)
You can also visit Thailand🇹🇭. Thousands of BYD Atto3, Dolphin and Seal, Tesla and other cool brands you've never heard of are on the streets of Bangkok and major cities. We are suffering from sky high and rising gas prices.
I personally enjoy the ChangAn Deepal L07.
Plenty of sunshine all year round allows us to install affordable solar cells on the roof. We go to gas stations here to use washroom and inflate my tyre's only. 🎉🎉🎉
Thailand also don't have BYD Han izzit ? Same like Malaysia 😢

Hey guys, really nice to see you doing a road trip in Europe!
Looking forward to France!
Dave, don’t forget, Cathy gets to go shopping for two days in London.
Best Video ever!
Great video. And driving on the left side is creepy. Did it in Cyprus many years ago. I was sweaty in the roundabouts. So unusual. Also great to hear your thoughts about Chinese cars that they will come to US. We have them in Europe and they are strongly on march to set a big pressure on the traditional car makers. Here too we use to laugh at asian cars... no more... Now traditional car manufacturers are sweating and for sure for a good reason.
I think what Dave was trying to say toward the end about the screen would probably be correct. They made the screen setting for the other side driving and didn’t change when the wheel was moved to the other side for Europe
No it is because she is wearing Polaroids
Welcome to the United Britain of Kingdon Englandland ! I absolutely loved this video and the previous one. Just to think we were only a few miles apart. I could have said hello. Loved the banter/shooting the breeze with Cathy, especially the first 20 minutes. This really cheered me up last night as I couldn't sleep with toothache. Did you see a Honda e on your travels, my car??

Beautiful day there in Jolly Ol' London. I was in London in July in 1995. It was in the 90s.
I LOVE me some Kathy with a K and OOS Dave. Y'all are like me and my hubby on a road trip but y'all are much nicer to each other (which is how it should be). "The Honeymooners" but nicer. Yes, I'm 59 years old.
Try looking at the screen without polarised glasses.
All you had to do is swap positions and check it yourself Dave. I'll be interested if it was sorted out? 👍 😊
That's the answer, I get the same in my car.

Dave is in my home land? Amazing! 🙌🏼 Come to the north of England next time you're here - it's really pretty!
Kathy makes the video - she’s terrific!
Love this, first 5 minutes of driving i feared for my life, I totally had the stomach clench. It would be so easy to screw up driving right hand after 40 years of driving of driving left hand. The wrong way round abouts!!! I wonder how many north americans dont make it through the first two. ;) from this Hertz pickup.
Getting out of the parking lot was like watching "Mr. Magoo goes to England" 😂. Sorry, you'd have to be over 50 to get that reference
Truly one of my favorite videos of all time…thanks to you both
As a UK ex pat, who grew up and worked close to the airport, and regularly drove on all those roads, I appreciated the trip down memory lane. I have driven on both sides of the road and I find that the best discipline to use, is just think about keeping your steering wheel close to the centre of the road. It helps in those brain fart moments!

@@ArtVandelay00 You bigoted Sherman
I found the hardest part about driving on the left is roundabouts travel clockwise which is opposite US running counter clockwise.
In UK driver will let you in the queue most of the time, but on the roundabout we can’t let you in the rules is there, every car have to give way to the traffic on the right, you have to make sure the right hand side is clear to go, otherwise the roundabout will a mess. Just same as when I driving in Seattle I have to make sure the left hand side is clear.
Have nice holiday and drive safe 👍
BYD will be the no 1 car company in the world for sure.... Sad news for all the Japanese and German car companies 😢
Great Video guys you make the best couple and I love watching the videos of you both together you are both very entertaining. I test drove the Atto 3 in NZ when they first came out but they made awful noises all of the time which drove me crazy and I couldn't turn them off, apparently it was for pedestrians but god only knows why you could hear them in the cabin when you are driving, They may have fixed that now as that was in 2022. I didn't really like much about the Atto 3 so I went with the Tesla Model 3 in the end as there to me there was no real comparison.

The screen is polarised so if you are wearing polarised sunglasses the screen will look blacked out same as if you had 2 pairs of polarised sunglasses and turned one 90 degrees to the other it would black out.
