Julia, I love your videos. Every year I have a Christmas cookie decorating party and this year I have started a Halloween cookie party. I had a practice run over this weekend and I really could’ve used many of your techniques that I’ve seen in your videos already. I cannot wait to try some of your techniques next week and will definitely be purchasing your book or books!
So glad to see you using parchment and making the bags. I'm insane about recycling and this is SO much better than disposable plastic bags. THANK YOU!!!
I just found you, but I don't want to miss another thing! Even though I will probably not get near as fancy as you, ( I mostly bake for my great grandchildren) I've learned so much already. You make things so easy to understand that if I want to try it , I can. Thanks for sharing your special gift and your genuine passion for doing it!
i really really admire all your designs and everything. im not a dessert person but since i watch your videos, i started making them and let my neighbors taste them.
Hello, greetings from San José, Costa Rica. This is one of the most interesting food decorating channels I have found here in RUclips. Thanks a lot for sharing your work with us. Pura vida!
Goodness I'm SO glad I found your channel! You explain things better than anyone I've watched thus far! Thanks for the hard work you put into these videos!
I was a little nervous using these my first time, but by stapling the 3 ends together, the cone was stable and I experienced piping success. Thanks for showing us how to construct parchment cones, which are a money-saver and time-saver. Love your videos, tips, designs, and teaching style.
I decorated cookies for the first time a few days before Christmas, and I could only have a couple different colors of icing prepared at a time because I did not have enough metal tips. Using these cones would have made things a lot easier! I love how thorough this video was and how you went nice and slow. It makes it a lot easier to follow along. Can't wait to watch more of your tutorials!
I'm going to attempt to make this for my Mom's Birthday coming up Aug. 28, 2014 she would have turned 78....My sister's and I get together to celebrate Her Life every year on her Birthday. Thank you Julia for sharing your gift with us!!!!
I've never made Christmas cookies, or frosted anything but a cake. I've wanted to do this with my kids for years, but honestly have been too intimidated. I'm so happy I found your channel! You're such a good teacher, and your camera person does a great job. Thank you so much!
You are The Bomb! I belong to a cake decorating guild and I will definitely be getting all our new, and not so new, members to subscribe to your wonderful site. Thank-you for making things so easy to follow.
Omg! Your necklace it is absolutely gorgeous! I am in advanced Bead embroidery artist and work with turquoise, lapis, Swarovski crystal. I have fallen in love with making cookies! Putting the two together is a dream come true!
Thank you so much!! I have been fighting with plastic bags and tips for years and was so frustrated! I've subscribed and will be watching for future videos!
I was taught to bake by my grandmother and she always made her own icing bags from what we call grease proof paper here in the UK. It saves money, adds flexibility and you never have to worry about running out of bags! TY for sharing this, I was very young when I learnt how to do this so a refresher is very welcome :)
Julia thank you a million for this video! I could not for the life of me figure out how to do this without it ending in a disastrous mess lol. So far you are the only one that actually goes into detail how to make the piping bag and how to use it correctly. So again thank you and God bless! :)
Been watching your tutorials for years now and always refer back to them depending on the particular order I get. Thanks so much for your clear step by step guidance on all sorts of subjects. You are a truly a great teacher!😁
I love your work! and I really love how clear and precise you describe everything. today I made and used my first parchment paper for piping and while they are a far cry from your work my cookies are a lot better than they have been. I hope to practice a lot and maybe by April I will be able to do the tiaras and jewelry for my little girls Birthday! either way you are helping a lot!
Julia Usher, I`m from Brasil and I was completely in love with decorated cookies, but I didn`t had where or who to go to when I had a doubt or questios... Then I find you. Thanks for tutoring me! I love your videos, and I learn a lot everyday whatching them.
I was so thrilled to see this video since yesterday I was pricing parchment cones and yes, never before done anything like this so all going to be an old ladies play time. You have wonderful and professional channel here and I am so enjoying everything I have seen so far. TY for such wonderful information and answering questions even before I can think of them.
Well, Julia, you sure brought back some fond memories for me tonight! I am 65yo now but was raised by a mother who baked cakes out of our home, when we were kids, to help out financially. We always knew never to run in the house in case mother had cakes in the ovens. And we also knew that the huge cake being constructed in the middle of our huge dining table was NOT to be touched!! I remember mother, before a big cake, sitting and folding her parchment pastry bags the night before. That is all she knew, and she seemed to be fine with that! I recently pulled out all of my mother's decorating "stuff" that I was given when she passed. I am going to try, POSSIBLY, some cookie and cupcake decorating for the holidays. I, too, have found that I like the royal icing WAY better than trying to decorate with American buttercream! I am waiting for my new miser to arrive so I can't start anything yet. Have NO idea how this will go! lol! Sorry to carry on, but thank you for a great video...SO helpful and easy to follow! God bless...
Subscribed with only watching you for 2:28, such a great way to describe piping bags I hate reusable bags (bc of cleaning) and always seem to have sloppy work with plastic bags and I couldn't really understand why bc I was taught to be always use them in culinary school, your explanation was just so spot on. Thank you.
Thank you, Julia, I appreciate your teaching technique and calm manner. I see many things I have been doing wrong and I'm positive your tutorials will help.
Thank you Julia, these tips and tutorials are amazing. You explain everything clearly and make it sound easy and fast, which is exactly what I need! Plastic bags and metal tips drove me crazy last time I decorated my cookies. I'm definitely using your method next time I'm decorating!
Oh you are so precious. I am just learning how to decorate. I have my perfect cookie recipe, but I have been so frustrated with those bags, etc. The tips. You are right, they are so messy. This is a blessing. I must try. Thank you for sharing your insight. Knowledge, etc. God bless you for that. You do beautiful work.
Its been awhile since wilton, and how to fold parchment bags....THANK YOU! this was very well explained, and soooo appreciated. You're one in a million. I love your style
I just came across your video and learnt how to make those paper cones. Iam just a bginner and this video will help me a lot. Thank you very much. God bless you. From India.
Thank you so much for all your video's, I was a novice just looking for techniques to decorate my sons birthday cake and stumbled across your channel. You've inspired me to do this and take it further than just piping a birthday cake. I so look forward to following your channel and trying out new and fun stuff! Definitly going to get your book. Thank you so much from South Africa!
Hi Julia, Greetings from South Africa, thank you for the advice with regards to the Parchment Cones, This is a brilliant idea like you say the plastic bag does not always give you the thinnest effect when piping. I really like your idea and will be testing it tonight as I have 45 tea-biscuits (cookies) I have to decorate for Saturday morning. I really appreciate your advice and demonstrations as it makes it so much easier to try and not be scared of trying something new. Appreciated Regards Gus
You are a very eloquent speaker. Thank you for these videos, and for taking the time to explain your techniques in detail. I have inherited my family's original Czech baking recipes that have been passed through multiple generations. As a baking newbie, I really appreciate these tips!
Love this video -- I'm such a beginner, this was a huge help! For those struggling with cutting the parchment, I found a quick method to cut a perfect square for 2 right triangles: Take one edge of your parchment roll and fold it over to the other edge, creating a right triangle. Cut along the straight edge created by the fold. You will have a perfect square with a diagonal fold to use as a cutting guide, creating 2 right triangles.
I came across your channel by accident and decided to watch one of your vids. I was hooked! So I have to subscribe so I don't miss anymore. You're so talented. You make everything so easy to understand and I love that you show "this is what happens if..." But I couldn't eat them, they're just too pretty.
I absolutely love your tutorials! I have now watched 2 hours of your videos and ready to tackle cookie decorating! Thank you! You are a genius and so easy to follow! Great directions and easy to follow. :)
Thanks so much for this!! The pointers on how to get straight lines and not drag were amazing! You've saved me a lot of time and annoyance lol cheers again😄
Julia you are a joy to watch and listen to! Thank you so much for your informative videos... I'm looking forward to practicing your techniques. I have a feeling that my gingerbread men won't be such an epic fail this year!
I've been watching your videos for an hour now and I learnt a lot..I'll apply the steps and techniques to make some gorgeous coockies. Thank you so much.
This works perfectly for me. So glad to be (mostly) done with all the tips and bags, which run into quite a bit of expense. I do sometimes store colored icing in twists of plastic wrap so I can just snip off the end of the plastic wrap and pop it into the parchment cone. There's less control for very detailed work but its much faster for kid's cookies and less messy.
:) I use Reynolds parchment paper, as I believe it's got a sheer wax coating that keeps it from softening as fast as other parchment paper. The paper also slides easily across itself, making it easier to shape the cones. The tips can get blunt though (the advantage of metal tips is they don't misshape), so I am careful not to touch the tips of the cones.
perfect! This will save me a lot of time and money, saw this video just in time, almost orderd a load of dispenceble piping bags and all of the same tips and attachedments.
LOVE these. Makes cookie decorating fun again. I thought it was great when I found the tip on putting icing in plastic wrap then putting that into a bag - reuse the bag, hardly any mess - it was all good but there was still messing with the bags, the tips, the couplers and I always made too much of one or two colors and had them about. Also, those darned 00 and 1 tips clogged all the time so I'd pull the tip off and put another on - more to wash and keep track of. I guess I'm just really a lazy baker, ha, but I absolutely love the ease of making them, filling them, using them and tossing them! Thank you so much!
yay! im a no frills type of home cook too! found your video trying to hunt for a simple way to ice cookies with my toddler for the first time and i dont have any piping bags! thanks so much!
I accidentally bought parchment paper triangles from Michael's and I was always afraid to try to use them. I am definitely going to try now. This video was so helpful.
I adore your videos! You are an excellent instructor and I have learned so many new techniques! I cannot wait to do some Christmas baking with royal icing. 😃
this is GENIUS..I'm somewhat new to cookie baking & I LOVE your videos..thanks so much for your wonderful tips!! THIS is my favorite one.. I HATE using plastic bags & the disposable plastics are soo expensive. this is genius!
i'm so glad i found this video!! i couldn't find any piping bags in stores since i've moved, so i've been using freezer bags (similar to the ones you get when you buy fruits at the supermarket) for a loooong time. Let's say it's uncomfortable and sometimes even leaks bc of how thin it is! it's nice to finally find an alternative. thank you! c:
this was a very comprehensive and easy-to-follow tutorial! Thanks to you, I now have a little stack of parchment cornets for cookie decorating later. The last time I decorated cookies, I used the little disposable plastic bag cones for icing, and the seams on the side broke when I tried to pipe fine lines of thicker icing! Very frustrating. I'm looking forward to parchment-- thank you so much for your video.
Very helpful information and professional presentation. Real show-and-tell like you've done is hard to pull off but you succeeded. Now I'm off to practice with pr-cut parchment paper sheets.
OMG! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This has totally revolutionized how I decorate cookies! I totally agree with you.....the bags with the couplers are suppose to be more helpful but it's just something else to fiddle with and CLEAN.....and the plastic disposables always have that seam so you can never get a nice round hole! These are AWESOME! I can just pipe, you're absolutely right...I have WAY more control and at the end if there's any left over just snip and in the bowl or chuck it! No mess! No fuss! With over 100 cookies I'm making for Christmas to give away as presents this has just made my Christmas a much less frustrating one. If I could hug you right now I would! Have a fantastic Christmas! ;-)
I've never heard of a parchment cone or saw anyone use one until a few min ago! I just watched your chocolate lace cake wrap video and wow, amazing! I had to subscribe and find out how you made this cone. The other day I had to pipe chocolate to make strawberries look like little ladybugs. I used a ziplock bag instead of my disposable pastry bag with tip and it was so frustrating. I also used the plastic squeeze bottles which I do not like much. This method seems far better and I can't wait to try! I do love my disposable bags and tips with frosting but this seems like it will be great for control with melted chocolate. I'm excited I found your channel! Great videos!!
Thank you so very much for this video. I need dreading cleaning out piping bag. I'm so happy I have not bought any bags yet. I'm going to attempt making royal icing for the first time. Your instructions are every clear and percice. I plans on making 5 bags. One for white then one each for yellow, blue, red and green. I'm going to fiddle around with the tip size to see what happens. I know I'll need 1 bag as skinny as the one you made. That will be perfect for outlining the cookies. Your video has inspired me much! Thank you!!! 🍪🍪🍪
wow thank you thank you thank you. i LOVE DIY and using paper is right up my alley. your a very good teacher too. i'm excited to watch more of your videos.
***** I will be trying my first batch tonight after work. I do have a question though. For your cookies did you have a special resupe for the sugar cookies? Or is it just a simple resupe?
Got my Wilton Method of Cake Decorating StudentGuide Course1&2 and this a great complementary video!ThankYou! Visual learning helps.a lot for practice session!
From Russia with love! This is the best way for me. Everything has turned out! Hurrah!!! :) Good bye, Wilton, I don't need you any more. Thank you so much!
What a good idea! :) Thank you! I'm like you, I don't like buying a lot of stuff. And I HATE pastry bags, too! I've also tried both the squeeze bottle and plastic bags (zip-loc bags are common) with less than stunning success. Actually, they're both troublesome. Squeeze bottles are better for making fancy pancakes. And plastic bags, besides seams, can rupture because there's no way for air to escape. Then you have a mess. Love the all tips about the parchment paper. I am going to try this tomorrow.
+Julia M Usher Just popped in to quickly tell you how it went. Okay. I tried about 10 times to make these and failed. :( They just wouldn't stay. And you cannot tape them together. Tape doesn't stick to parchment paper. SO... I thought, why not try waxed paper? I did and, while I still couldn't get them to stay, I could tape it and they stayed. I've now tried icing with them and they work well. So, waxed paper makes a good alternative as it is a lot more common than parchment paper. Some stores don't even carry parchment paper anymore. I'll keep trying with the parchment paper but right now the clock's ticking. Christmas eve, you know?
Let me think. It's been a few days (well, the holidays) so... I just couldn't get them to stay -- and the 3 tips were never on the same side of the cone. It was more like 2 on one side and 1 on the other. I will try it again with the parchment paper. I'm in NJ but have trouble finding it. I saw it recently and snapped it up but it's only one roll.
Thank you for this! I've worked in a kitchen for 20 years but never had the patience to learn folding these. I always asked junior chefs to fold them for me so no one would notice i couldn't do it ;-)
This is so helpful. Especially for someone like me who only visits my kitchen occasionally :-) because of that I don't invest in 'fancy' equipment or tools; just the bare basics. I love making rolled sugar cookies and will give this a try the next time I make them, or a birthday cake. My mouth waters the whole time I'm watching your videos HAHA
May i use butter paper
Julia M Usher you are mad
Ira Kanani are u serious? Does her reply sounds mad? I dont think she was what u think

this was a very comprehensive and easy-to-follow tutorial!
Thanks for your videos. I love the idea of parchment paper because it is less waste/more biodegradable!
Thanks. Me too! I don't feel guilty throwing it away.
Very helpful information and professional presentation. Real show-and-tell like you've done is hard to pull off but you succeeded. Now I'm off to practice with pr-cut parchment paper sheets.
Gosh, that made a complex process clear - thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
I am making a cake for my art homework and I haven't got a piping bag looked it up and there we go you made it in minutes AMAZING THANK YOU!❤️🎀
Julia M Usher, this is really helpful and this made my problem easier......Thanks for sharing😊☺️🙂😊😄😄😄
Keep doing videos like this....best wishes😊😊😊😉👍🏻
OMG! Thank you! Thank you! Have a fantastic Christmas! ;-)
thanku so much for sharing this ..its been so long i was looking for better cone tecnique. .love yours...thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! I'm sure I will be successful with practice and all your great tips :-)
Julia, where were you all my life? Why did it take me 6 YEARS to find you? Icing goddess and diy queen, what more does one want?
Oh, thank you! So glad you found my channel! Enjoy!
Thank you Julia, you,ve been a great help to me.
Really enjoyed the videos and learned so much.
No messing around!
You are by far the Queen of no holds barred decorating. ;o
Thank you so much this really helped
I needed a last minute cookie
I had every thing but a piping bag
U are a life saver
I can't believe that ,you are creative.
wow thank you thank you thank you. i LOVE DIY and using paper is right up my alley. your a very good teacher too. i'm excited to watch more of your videos.
***** I will be trying my first batch tonight after work. I do have a question though. For your cookies did you have a special resupe for the sugar cookies? Or is it just a simple resupe?
***** I finished my first batch of cookies. They came out very yummy. The decorative part I need a lot of practice. But everyone loved them.
Got my Wilton Method of Cake Decorating StudentGuide Course1&2 and this a great complementary video!ThankYou! Visual learning helps.a lot for practice session!
Julia M usher thank u so much for this trick .I was searching for this.... I got it from u ....
Her: "until then, live sweetly!"
Me: "okay, mom. 😊 love u."
yeah, i love this woman lol
LOVE your video's and your lessons. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!
Thank you for this! I've worked in a kitchen for 20 years but never had the patience to learn folding these. I always asked junior chefs to fold them for me so no one would notice i couldn't do it ;-)
great video - you explain things very well & clearly - thanks!
oh wow! I forgot how easy those are to make =) great video, thank you!
I love your work ,you are so talented !!
Omg I love her! I’m new to her channel and I’m so happy I came across this!
I've been looking for a plastic free alternative for a while now. Thank you for this!
Oh, so a very good teacher..from Chile.
Thanks so much!!
