@@johnlay3040 Some Singaporeans only see this problem based on religion. I talked to one, and they didn't know where the West Bank is or why Israelis are called settlers. This happens because the government shares wrong information due to its connection with Israel and because some people don't care to learn about the main issue.

@@johnlay3040 and just how balanced is your opinion on this issue then? If Israel wants to conduct a genocide, Gaza will be completely flattened by now with over a million deaths. Why bother giving warnings to civilians there to get away from impending strikes, if Israel just wants to exterminate everyone?
Maybe get the glue out of your eyes first before telling others not to splosh ketchup.

"@johnlay3040, I'm sorry, but we are not binary robots like you. We can condemn terrorism while also condemning any country or organization that goes against humanitarian and international law. It's important to acknowledge that the concept of self-defense should not be used as a cover for genocide. Life is rarely as simple as right or wrong, this or that way. If there were a single solution or viewpoint that is appropriate for everything, there wouldn't be so much conflict in the world today.
So, as much as you mentioned that "blood is on our hands," I believe that people who hold biased viewpoints as the only answer to everything won't help lessen the conflict in Gaza. Therefore, blood is also on your hands. The only difference is whether we are ready to be accountable and responsible for own actions. Someone giving biased judgments just because there are no consequences to themselves speaks volumes.

If you go back far enough in history, the Malays apparently came from the Yunnan region in SW China and the Orang Asli arrived in the Malay peninsula before they did. Who are the rightful owners of the land then? If you go far back enough in time, we were all migrants. As for who the land of Israel belongs to, Islam, Judaism and Christianity may have different answers. Yet each believes they are right.

@@sitiaishahabdulrahim9423 There was Israel though. It's called the Kingdom of Israel and Kingdom of Juddah. c. 1047 BCE-930 BCE. Jews have always been in that piece of land even before Islam began. This piece of land went through a series of different rulers that brought many different religions and culture to that area. "Palestinians" (Possibly a mix of Jews/Christians/Muslims) during that time would have been very different from the Palestinians (Muslim majority) today. People in that region became Muslim when kingdoms like the Ottoman Empire/Arab Empires carried out Islamic invasions to expand their kingdom.
On the other hand, Palestine has never been an independent state/ kingdom. Even if British didn't designate that land as Israel, it would have been an area under Egypt/Jordan etc. The state of Palestine would not have existed either way.

Remember Korea? That's an example of a two-state solution but with the same people on different ideology. It was the same for Vietnam until 1975. Fast forward to current situation, one side calls for driving J from the rivers to the seas, the other, we can live together but we don't really trust you, hence we need securities. We did hear from the 22 Big Brothers around the region that started war in 1948 and several later wars but have never together say - "enough of war, we made a grave mistake back than and we need to start new for the children and their children future, the people of P for lasting peace". Unfortunately, many Singaporeans are uninformed about the Palestine/Israel issue and only became aware of it after the event on October 7th. Some may claim to understand the historical background of Palestine and Israel, but I believe these individuals could be considered pseudo-experts. Some might solely believe and unquestionably follow the government's position. I think it is crucial to conduct thorough research before making statements such as advocating for neutrality. There are numerous Jewish historians and scholars, including Noam Chomsky, Ilan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein, and many others, who oppose Israel's treatment of the Palestinians. For a better understanding of why people are protesting and the significance of taking a side, documentaries by Jewish/Israeli directors such as 'Tantura' and 'Life in Occupied Palestine' by Anna Baltzer will help you understand better. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Educate me about the one day war.
I heard that when Israel was formed, as in declared independent and given the land by the British or UN after ww2, within one day 5 other neighbouring states attacked them. And that led to Israel winning and also gaining more land.
were those countries correct and what reasons?

absolutely nonsensical that the government have to make a statement on this, and continue to make statements on the international stage concerning other countries
they should stfu, and only advocate international guidelines and law

The Palestinian-Israel conflict is not just a political one, but it has a religious dimension. One of Islam's holy sites, Al-Aqsa Mosque and many Palestinians are Muslims, making this conflict a very raw and passionate one. Already, the PAP government is viewed as practising a double standard toward Malay Muslims. Hence, the banning of rallies and prayers at SG mosque for Palestinians - makes the swing voters not happy.
PAP need to tread carefully if they want to stay in power.

It is very wise of our government not to allow rallies of any kind supporting either side of the conflict because this is a very emotional and controversial matter that can easily inflame ethnic/religious sentiments, as we have seen happening elsewhere around the world, resulting in social unrest and ethnic/religious strife which can damage the peace and social harmony we enjoy here.

Disproportionality is a figment of subjective imagination. It transcends beyond body counts. No justification can be made when terror against civilians are involved. International laws allow countries the right to defend themselves as long as the aim is to bring peace in the end. Hamas has no goals in mind except to terrorise and cause fear and mayhem. Two state solution is a tough one as long as people in Gaza cannot visit family in West Bank and vice versa. Tough if Jerusalem will always be a contending factor. Peace is inevitable if we keep drawing on the past. Both countries share the same land now and they need to co-exist without one infringing on the other especially forcefully. Clear boundaries were drawn before and they must be respected. In fact, both sides have strengths which they can draw on and work together much like we work together with our neighbours. Many Palestinians in fact, work in Israel through officially issued work visas. Peace would be hard to achieve as long as the leaders of both countries don’t want it. So whatever has been written in charters or strategies must be changed. Whoever is leading both countries has to be held accountable and responsible.

It is not a religious conflict. Its the right for the natives to defend their rights. Most people start the history on 7th October, and it is a simpler but erronous story. If you understood the many years of
brutalization of the Palestinians by the Israelis on a daily basis and ongoing now, then its a different story. For this reason there is a lot of misinformation and omission of vital facts. It is a settler colonisation as is USA where the natives have been subject to a genocide. This is your opportunity to learn more about the injustice of the world, and how it is carried out. Its easy to point to terrorist groups, but then you would be suppressing the real truth and reality. Its a short term action, brushing the serious details under the carpet. A society can mature and be more cohesive if they had an opportunity to develop their understanding and to be in public to rally the injustice. In USA we have whites, blacks, jews and palestinians protesting against the war crimes. Killing more then 5000 children is a war crime.

I lived in Singapore for several years. One incident I was told happened shortly after Singapore became independent, and for a brief time, was amalgamated into Malaysia. There was a riot of the Muslim minority in Singapore that became violent. The authorities ask the Malaysian government to send in troops to quell the riots. The predominantly Muslim government of Malaysia, DID send in troops...BUT...they didn't quell the riots of the Muslim minority...they started killing the ethnic Chinese living in Singapore, INSTEAD! The Muslim governments of Malaysia and Indonesia have a HISTORY of attacking and killing the sizeable ethnic Chinese minority in those countries. That is the reason, when Singapore was kicked out of the Malaysian state they developed their own, sizeable, military infrastructure, that they continue to maintain to this day.
