We need a president who is charismatic, speak well and can think on his feet when he meets other global leaders. He must represent Singapore on the global level. I can't think of anyone more suitable than this chap.

Maybe I was living under a rock, but I nv knew that he made such important changes in our education system. And he even opened North light & pathlight. These are huge policy changes that made a real positive impact on the daily lives of Singaporeans. Kudos to u, Mr Tharman

    • @eudorac91

Yes. Its true! When I was a kid (I'm not that old lol) it's like, PSLE is like better grades, better/more schools to choose from lo. Bad means less schools to choose lo. REALLY bad means ... dunno, retake PSLE? U like sports/music ... choose as your CCA lor. Get into sch team, I guess?
Strangely (or incidentally), I remember phases of my sch life by the education minister HAHA.
      Like,
Pri sch - Teo Chee Hean
      Secondary sch - Tharman
      JC - Ng Eng Hen
      NIE/teaching - Heng Swee Keat
So anyway, along came Mr Tharman in 2003/4, and ... [off the top of my head, I can't remember in order hahah + mebbe more I can't recall]
      >> DSA
      >> Pathlight
      >> Northlight
      >> Sports School
      >> SOTA [this was so popular I think some of the pioneer batches backtracked a year to apply, cus they only initially took lower sec]
^ I didn't personally benefit/apply for any of this but I remember being quite wowed. Before these, life in sch was really good grades lor. The better your grades the more power to you ... that's all 😂
He's also Thar-man who decided no CCA on Saturdays (for good or for bad, I actually didn't mind CCA on Saturday, more chill HAHAHA). I think it was also him that decided to do away with big end-of-term exams, and do bite-sized assessment instead? That one, great in theory but damn stressful HAHA. I remember like suddenly Sec 2 every week got damn test, sometimes two. simisai 😂
I sound like such a biased fangirl (inclined to support him, though for other reasons) but it's sometimes difficult to see the contributions of a minister unless it affects personally you (same for NS/housing/road tax, what have you), just happens that everyone experiences going to sch - and people of my time (😂) have seen the impact of Mr Tharman's time in the Education ministry, like - the contrast between the then and now. (-:

@@eudorac91I am way after your time, but I guess the bite-sized tests are not for me. Big end of year exams means I only need to study once, bite-sized I got to study every week. But then and again, that is the purpose that studying should not be last minute.

i think what makes tharman different is his strong dedication and desire to supporting and working on ground initiatives to actually improve singaporeans’ lives. i’ve heard many accounts of taman jurong residents and just how tharman has helped them, and i can see why taman jurong is so supportive of him. i guess the biggest and perhaps the only somewhat valid argument his opponents have against him is his past affliation with PAP. But personally I feel that Tharman has a mind of his own and I can feel his conviction and desire to “add substance” to the role of president instead of just being a “yes man” for ceremonial purposes. I’m more willing to pick someone who has a long history of actually doing things to help and impact singaporeans’ lives, and can be the best representation of our country, strengthen our international standings, instead of choosing the ones that are supposedly independent candidates just for that sake.

Is like promoting the weakest member on the team and not supporting the star member because he/she can plays a better role in their current position. That is so demoralising. If you are in this situation, you still want to work hard? With a proven track record mr Tharman has, it already proves to everyone how qualified he is. On the international stage, we will be so damm proud that such a solid person is representing our country.

I would hope to hear more of what he contributed. He deserve all the credits being out now as an individual. Even a glimpse of what he highlighted was awesome and to be proud of. This president election should be based on individual presence on their strengths and how they can contribute as a individual. Most of us work for a employer. Most of us just happen to enter where we are.it's not really a matter of choice or smth that could be changed. Should not be the reason as a roadblocker/distractor.

And also his stand on being “party” affiliated, by explaining how it’s a positive thing and how he doesn’t play party politics etc and explaining the process of policy making.

    • @jeems2066
      @jeems2066 Год назад +21

I'd say it could be due to the current syllabus which may already be heavy in terms of content.
Next is, financial literacy may be difficult for children to appreciate since they don't get involved in the world of income, expenses and taxes etc, so it's best developing their broad based academic knowledge at a young age rather than financial literacy.
When young I think they just need to know the very basics, the basics of which are alright if taught similarly to how sex education is taught.

Tharman has good track record and is intellectual. Had he not been with the PAP, no one would make noise. The main issue is partisanship. ever since NKS keep on saying non-partisan, that word got stuck in my mind. Guess he still will win the contest this time. 6 years to serve, he would be 72 by then. Alot of things can and will happen within that timeframe internationally. Anything happen internationally affects things domestically. So a president with exceptional international standing is needed.

Tharman 🍍is the only people President amongst the three, 20 years on the ground helping, listening to Singaporean residents, especially less privileged. NKS and TKL did none of that, only last minute then pretend to be on the ground😂
For our and our kids future👉🍍🍍🍍🗳✍️

He can fit either for PM or President role although his high caliber experiences better fit to be the Prime Minister.
13:19 President is not ceremonial role but puppet. Hope with him serve as the new President, he change the President role, not merely as puppet but playing active role with concrete actions for welfare of citizens and not for benefit of ruling party.

Having a deep and thorough knowledge on the reserves itself is a double-edged sword. Mdm Halimah approved billions for the Covid assurance package and she did not have knowledge in the reserves before that. She did perfectly well as there is the Council of Presidential Advisers to advise her. Who is to give a reserves expert any advice? 😅

Since “K” and “L” is next to each other on the keyboard, it is quite common to mistype my name to Leong.
I am not offended by this. Typo. Human error. Finger too fat.
There was once when my CCC Chair forwarded an email to Kim Leong and me (as Kok Leong) and cc to Mr Tharman.
Within 5 mins, Mr Tharman sent an email “Typo - Mr Goh meant Kok Keong”
