    I am a brass rat. The local club rules are you bust pick all your brass up when you are done shooting. No one does. I asked several directors on a workday if I can collect brass that was left. Basically if no one is on the range they said to take as much as I can. In the past year I have several hundred pounds. Now over tens of thousands of pieces I have seen some strange things. Worst was probably what I believe is 9mm luger fired in a 40 S&W. I find a bunch of that.

      Fortunately, I was taught "Line Clearance" in the medical device industry. You clear the workspace of EVERYTHING and then bring out ONLY one product to be filled/labelled/packaged, &etc. So, if I'm working with .40, anything and everything else stays locked up. Plus, don't trust the boxed cartridges from any manufacturer. I have found, though rarely, a 9mm Parabellum in a factory-sealed .40 box.

      I disagree. Depending on your world views, we are living in precarious times. A Mad Max scenario is quite possible. I have a Makarov that chambers and fires .380acp reliably, Russians do make sturdy gats. It is good knowledge to have JIC = Just In Case.

    I always enjoy a Buffalo's Outdoors video, and appreciate the message at the end too. I'm in my early 70's, and growing up in this great country, I never would have imagined the day would come that some of my fellow citizens would be eager to give up their own freedom, and to take mine away too, for a false feeling of security...

      Thank you and I’m glad you enjoy my videos. I first heard that saying that I close my videos with a few years ago and it really struck a chord with me because like you I see so many people just ready and willing to throw away what few liberties they have left in the name of the greater good. I’m just one person but I try to remind everyone I can, every chance I get that freedom IS the greater good.

    A buddy of mine fell on hard times and needed some money, he was gonna take a gun to a pawnshop, but instead i loaned him the money and held the gun so he wouldnt owe no intrest of deal with no bullcrap..
    It was a grey ruger american compact 45.. i didnt own a 45 anymore but i had some reloads i bought from a gun show years ago, so i figured id shoot itna few times and see if i liked it. I really liked the looks and feel of the gun, and was thinking about buying one just like it..
    I was on the second mag and noticed a weird pop... the shell didnt eject, and when i ejected it, i noticed it was a 40 sw case bulged and split..
    Shocked me, but didnt cause any damage.. needless to say, i went thru the bag and found 1 more 40 round mixed in...
    I ended up keeping the gun because the dude screwed me on the money lol.. so i got a ruger american 45 for 300 bucks.

    I had a rifle, chambered in a wildcat 218 mashburn bee cartridge in which I shot the standard .218 Bee cartridge. It expanded the shoulder to the mashburn dimensions and some trim work and I would reload to its specifications They called this fireforming the cases, for those unfamiliar with reloading. However, the same cartridge head, length, and caliber, making it safe.
    Great video, brother.

      @buffalosoutdoors it use to be fairly common on the reloading community. Almost all my friends reloaded. Many of us molded our own bullets as well. Loved it. I managed to get the slug out from the muzzle end without damaging the crown or the rifling and he was good to go. Offered to trade his 17/410 combo for a 22/410 that I had since that was what he had wanted to begin with. Nope, he wanted to keep it.

    Great video! Another thing to keep in mind is the chamber pressure of the cartridges. The .17 HMR (26,000 psi) and .22 WMR (24,000 psi) have a 2,000 psi difference. It's not a huge pressure difference, but it's something worth mentioning.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  8 месяцев назад +1

      Pressure is everything. In this scenario however there's no bullet to bore seal so pressures aren't approaching anywhere near spec.

      @user-jm6hh7op3w 8 месяцев назад

      @@buffalosoutdoors True, a .17 caliber bullet travelling down a .22 caliber bore diameter will not increase the chamber pressure. But, just picture someone loading .38 Super (36,500 psi) into a handgun chambered for .38 ACP (26,500 psi). Both cartridges have the same external dimensions, but have a difference of 10,000 psi in chamber pressure...🤕

    Neat demonstration. I have done a lot of sub-caliber testing and it won't hurt the firearm to shoot a sub-caliber cartridge in it. NEVER go the other way, such as shooting an 8 mm Mauser round in a 30/06. That will cause catastrophic pressures.
    When the bullet is below bore diameter the pressure will be low and powder will not burn effectively, just as you demonstrated.

    Can it kill zombies though, and if so... how many? Too many questions left unanswered. Glad it didn't break anything :)

    wrong caliber firing is my favorite haha just gotta make sure the pressure is lower than the caliber the weapon is and make sure the bore diameter is equal or larger than the wrong caliber. following those rules ive never had an issue.

    Wow,that was really surprising!
    I figured you'd hit the paper ,but the penetration on the milk jug was un expected and I definitely didn't expect it to go through both sides of the tomato can ( honestly I was kinda worried about a ricochet on that) then 7 inches on the ballistic gel was crazy ! Good video 👍

      I was surprised as well. If it had stopped in the water jug the video would have ended there. I expected it to.

    Guy at the range , was shooting his lever gun...couldnt hit the side of a barn...and lots of smoke coming out of the action. He asked me to try it, I looked at the rifle...44 mag ...looked at the ammo...30-30 winchester. The 30-30 was there behind him , leaning in the rifle stand...he mixed up the ammo sometime during setup.

    Edit: First, I'm telling her...
    Second, that bullet looks long enough that I wouldn't want one turning around inside of me.

    interesting how it stretched perfectly to fit the chamber without tearing makes me wonder if they took a 22-magnum cartridge and necked it down when manufacturing to fit the 17-caliber bullet.
    also is weird how bullet wound up backwards in ballistic gel was it tumbling in flight or just went in heaviest end first with slow velocity

    Had a friend now passed, that took a rifle in pawn. When it wasn't reclaimed he took it and tried it out using .22lr ammo, it wasn't accurate at all and he wondered what he was going to do with it. Then he checked the markings on the receiver, .22 WMR, he used the proper ammo and it worked just fine.

    Hi Buffalo, that really surprised me. Did shooting that 17hmr through that Ruger do any damage to the cylinder or bore?

      I can't see it hurting the cylinder but it could bang around in the bore a little bit

    Buffalo have you ever fired .243 Winchester or 7mm-08 out of a 308 Winchester barrel? Heard a guy talking about doing it while in a conversation at a gun store about 30 or 35 years ago. Fire forming brass probably because the 243 and 7 are essentially just necked down from the 308 Winchester parent cartridge. At the same time he was talking about making .45 cal. pistol brass from his old 308 brass. I have never done this but by the measurements and eye balling, sure looks like it would work.

    Me 2 , did not think it would have that much force, being that it builds no pressure, Nasty little round though. Can believe the shell didn't got stuck in the cylinder. !!
