After having so many failed attempts at weight loss over a near 25 year period, I had internalised so many myths about the subject. In today's video I am busting some of those myths through my own experience.
Join me here and on my Instagram (bit.ly/halfofcarlaig) as I share my journey to continuously show up for myself!
As always I am not a medical professional/therapist and you should always seek medical advice prior to making changes to your diet. The content of this video is my experience only and in no way should be a replacement for professional advice.

XXX I weighed 387 lbs, I am down to 255. My goal is 150 lbs. Love all your advice.
Keep at it. I’m in it for the long haul. The last 50 are slow going, but still going.
The maintenance thing!! I lost 50lb when I was 23 years old, having been overweight pretty much my whole life. I’m turning 62 this week and I’ve maintained that loss give or take 7lbs for nearly 40 years. It absolutely can be done 😊. Great to see someone so inspirational sharing these truths. Thank you Carla.
Good job! Congrats!
Of these 5, #5 is my favorite. Basically, instead of approaching weight loss as a diet because you feel fat and gross, approach it as a way of eating better and moving more because you love yourself and you want to take better care of yourself. You deserve to be healthy. You deserve to have more energy, happiness, and mental clarity. You deserve to be the best version of yourself.
XXX Myth. Having a weight plateau is a sign of failure. I plateaued for 9 nine months after losing 100 lbs. Ididn't go back to bingeing to soothe myself. Instead I added a 4th meal of protein & veggies. Now I am 120 lbs lighter and introducing resistance/ weight training to build and/or tone muscle.
XXX Myth! You can't lose weight after menopause. Yes, you can! Maybe more challenging but doable! ❤
This comment! It’s harder yes for many but it’s still not impossible just give yourself grace and don’t aspire for a body long since passed, love and nurture the one that you’re in now!
I agree!! I think this is nonsense.
I've lost 82 lbs (so far) since menopause.
@@ck2dWow! congratulations 🎉
Man... The part about the instant hit when you have a bite of yummy, greasy, tasty pizza, but then not totally loving the bites thereafter? So accurate! That really struck a chord with me! Thank you for sharing these, Carla. 👏🏼💪🏼
💖💖💖 a myth that I have busted, that yes you can weigh what you weighed when you were in your twenties (this is assuming one was at a healthy weight at that time) at later stages/ages of life. For some reason, people believe that you must carry extra weight as you age, and that this is a normal progression, and that it is better to have a few extra pounds in case you get sick(?). I am turning 60 years old this year and I have finally reached my healthy goal weight range which is exactly what I weighed in my 20s. If anything I now carry less muscle mass and less bone density than I did when I was in my 20s so it doesn’t make any sense to me why I should weigh more? And what do people mean when they say you should carry extra pounds in case you get sick? This all seems like nonsense to me. I feel great at this weight and I am also within my healthy BMI.
The diminishing returns aspect of bingeing/junk food and weight loss as an act of self-love really resonate with me and what I’ve gone through. Currently on a journey to lose about 125 lbs and I’m about 1/3 of the way there! 💕
A myth I've busted, that I see reproduced constantly, is that losing a large amount of weight will leave you with loose skin. I lost 120 lbs (262 -> 130 lbs) and have essentially none. There's the tiniest bit of tissue-paper type skin in a couple areas, but absolutely nothing that is visible from more than a foot away. I keep hearing people say that you will definitely get loose skin if you lose over 100 lbs. Well I'm a woman in my 40s, I did nothing special, yes I am into weight training but other than that, nothing. I didn't use any special creams etc. I'm not even that good at staying hydrated. And I lost the weight quickly too. Don't let that fear of loose skin stop you, you could end up like me.
I always tell myself the last bite tastes the same as the first bite... so there's no reason to rush through and have 30 bites when I can slow down with 5 bites and enjoy each one.
I watch a lot of your videos I was 103kg 3 years ago I started weightloss journey lost few kgs and came down to 95 then I did nothing but right now I want to push myself to loos weight and go down to 80kg I know I would still want to loose more but if I get to 80 I would be so happy. Your videos is so helpful at present IF if my life.
This type of vlog is my favorite. Advice on healthy weight loss and tips rather than weekend travel etc 😅 XXX
XXX I love these advice videos, and I love the vlogs! What helped my husband and I lose weight was treating our fun foods as worthy of special occasions. If we want crispy, oily, etc., we go out, order one item, and share it in addition to a soup or veggie/protein platter.
❌❌❌The maintenance after weight loss. I used to weigh over 300lbs. The scale I had didn’t work beyond that and I refused to have myself weighed anywhere else. I worked so hard for several months, not knowing what else to do (I had done everything I knew of up to that point). I was able get and to keep the 70+lbs off for 14 years. I had a new “comfort/discomfort zone” for those 14 years. I was in my good I suppose. Until I found you and Ger. With Ger’s voice from the countless BodySlims seminars and daily check ins ringing in my ears ALL OF THE TIME 😳😅 I’m heading towards great, which I never dared to dream until now. That first 70+ weight loss and maintenance was a much bigger accomplishment than I ever bothered to give myself credit for though. Your shoulds need to be decided on as musts and anything is truly possible. That a weight loss can’t be maintained is busted!😉❌❌❌
Im listening! 😊 👍😎🇨🇦💝 XX A myth I busted was "you can't exercise with an arthritic knee". A 35 LB loss later...here I am...
What exercise did you do!?

Another great video thank you Carla joanne 💗
Xx thank you for sharing your experiences 🙏
Thank you Carla for another great video. I would like to ask how you reply to something when asked, "When did you start your weight loss journey?" My answer seems to shock people as if it should be a much shorter time.
❌️❌️ Great tips Carla
Thank you Carla! You have a wholistic, comprehensive approach that is sensible and effective. You teach things that the diet industry does not want people to know. Do you know about the weight management teacher You Tuber Jim Katsoulis? He has really helped me because he focuses on mental and emotional aspects of weight management and individuals designing programs based on their own wants and needs.
Great video !🎉
I signed up for next body slims
Should I start anything now or just wait till I start ?
Is there anything beneficial to do before starting ?
If you had to do all over again, would you do anything before you started body slims ? Thx ❤
Awesome video. You are really inspirational for me.
XXX love you Carla!💙
