The majority of us "know" how to lose weight and we can apply weight loss tips until we're blue in the face, but if the motivation behind our actions is off, the results won't matter. In this video I'm sharing with you the difference that made the difference with my weight loss journey and how this attempt, as opposed to all the others led to lasting and sustainable weight loss.

I remember in one of your earlier videos, you said "be kind to yourself and come from a place of love." It completely changed the way I viewed weight loss. I stopped seeing the process as punitive, and started viewing it as an act of self-love, and it's made such a difference to my approach. Thank you for inspiring me to change my mindset!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. It means the world to me xx
💚💙💛
O
Don't "punish" my body! I have heard you say that before but today it really struck me! Thank you for sharing your journey ❤❤❤
I have been a champion of putting myself down my whole life. One day I was telling myself that I was weak because I put this weight on, and just wasn’t have any success getting it off. Then, I realized that I wouldn’t tell my friend she was weak. I would talk to her and remind her of everything she has accomplished, and reminded her that she was anything but weak. I sat there and told myself “you were in the Army and served in the Middle East during Desert Storm, you had a great career in law enforcement, you’re a mother of a brilliant daughter, and the grandmother of 3 beautiful kids. You survived cancer!!! So what, if I’m not losing weight as fast as I want? I’m sleeping better, my clothes fit better, and my energy level is great. The weight WILL come off.” If we talk to ourselves the way we speak to strangers, our emotional selves we would be so much better off. 💜💜💜
I honestly believe that without talking to yourself in a positive & inspiring way every single day, you have very little chance of large weight loss success. People always ask me about the 95 lbs I lost & how I did it. The simple answer is that I talk myself into it everyday. It wasn’t enough for other people to believe in me. I had to start believing in myself. Everything outside of that is just simple calorie math. 💜💜💜
the idea of "radical self compassion" sounds way more appliable to me than "radical self love". It's insane to me how our thoughts keep us stuck in unhealthy behaviours, and how we get used to them! Thank you for addressing this, Carla xx
My pleasure xx
Regardless of the "slip up"... continue on the journey because you have somewhere you want to go, somewhere you want to be.
Love that Carla! ❤
I only found your videos yesterday, but it’s been an absolute refreshing wake up call. I lost a whole lot of weight 4 years ago but couldn’t for the life of me keep it off. Looking back now I’ve realised how I white-knuckled my way through it and my motivation was essentially self loathing and disgust with myself. I really need to stop the judgement and work on the self compassion. Thank you so much 💜💜💜
It is my absolute pleasure. I believe this might be the root cause of the high instances of regain and how the statistics are stacked against us!
We always tell the boys at baseball practice not to watch the ball while running the bases bc it slows them down. Why did I never associate that with my own self??? I am always comparing - and failing - and talking very badly of myself. Thank you for these insights. I have much to ponder! 💜💜💜
I watch your fabulous videos every day to help motivate me in my new life of taking care of myself ( which is ironic, because I had a career as an ICU Nurse, caring for others…. But I was not caring for myself) Now I am!
You wouldn't be alone in that Diana, your career is all about giving to others and it's so easy to forget about the self in that! x
I am so glad I found you!!! ❤❤❤❤❤! I am finally learning to love me NOW! I am 62 - it is never too late to e the best you!!! Thank you!
Wow. This hit home... When u said, "not making decisions for yourself." We're all going thru this when food is involved. Being kind to ourselves is so vital. ❤
💜💜💜 I just recently found your channel and I have struggled with my weight for the last 7 years and I wanna thank you for this video. I never realized how true it is that we are so hard on ourselves but would never dream of being that hard on our best friends or loved ones.
“You are worth the work!” ❤ Love this!! 💝
I know this video came out a year ago but I just found it now. Wow. I had to listen to it on repeat at the gym over and over because for once, the concept of self compassion is actually sinking in. I guess that it never occurred to me that being really tough on myself can actually be what is holding me back. Thank you!
Still working on this but man, the mindset shift of self compassion has been so important for me. Something I've NEVER had before. You inspired some months back to start therapy and I wish I'd had your videos years ago. Thank you for sharing healing, positivity.
Awe thank you Callie 🖤🖤🖤
❤
💖💖💖thank you Carla for being my weekly inspiration and pep talk. Your videos have really helped me a lot. My biggest mental struggle is the voice in my head that keeps telling me “why do you think that this time you will be able to keep the weight off. You will just gain it back”. I have been in the middle for one year now and since finding your channel I am back working on self care, daily walks, and losing the other half.
Amazing Simone! You will get there and you will keep it off because you’re aware 🖤🖤🖤
@@HalfofCarla thank you 🥰
Thank you for your wagon view. That concept can apply to every area of life. I know I don't necessarily make the best decisions when I'm tired. Not just relating to weight loss. I've been beating myself up over spending money that could definitely been spent in a more productive way. I can't change it, so I have to let it go, get back on my path to move forward.
Thank you for this video… it was amazing and really stuck when you said you had to be your own best friend!! And really cheer your self on!! 😊
It’s funny how we can be so hard on our selves.
When you’re talking about what you said to your self.. it made me sad.. your non of those negative things to the world.. but we are so hard on ourselves.
Thank you again for all your amazing videos and tips.. and honesty. Love you lots you are such a truly amazing inspiration, with a fun spunky personality and genuine heart!!
Please keep doing what you do for all of us. 🤗💜🇨🇦
💜🤍❤ Great video! Self compassion is truly key. I finally found it in my 50's and it has changed my life.❤❤Thank you for being such and inspiration and a beautiful soul Carla 😊
💜💜💜If I believe it I can achieve it! I am 40 lbs down and your videos have given me the best perspective during my weight loss journey 😊
The Kindness Method, a book by Shahroo Izadi, has helped me change my negative inner monologue. Her approach is similar to yours, Carla. The author helrself has lost half her bodyweight, and has worked as an addiction specialist for the NHS before writing the book. I recommend it to anyone trying to change their habits and inner monologue ❤
I adore her and wish I had found her while I was on my weight loss journey. Thank you for sharing her so others can find it xx
Love her❤️
❤🖤🤍
Thank you for being so honest about a topic many people don’t want to talk about or acknowledge:
🖤🖤🖤 Im so glad I found you here. You've been such and inspiration to me.
🧡💛❤️Carla, thank you for sharing this video. You make a huge difference with your channel by understanding the thought processes of being an overweight person and the cruelty of one’s own internal dialogue. I would love to know more of the self compassion tools you have discovered along your way.
Take super care, Laura x
I'm putting it on the list Laura, thank you xx
Your wisdom, generosity, and grace are such a gift in my life. Thanks for sharing what you do and the effort it takes to open up and do that. You are truly a Rock Star! 💕❤️💕👍🏻👏🏻☕️
Thank you so much Juliannaxx
Thank you for being an encouraging voice & being an example of the friend that I can be to myself. I will get up & continue on my path 💛
I'm learning so much from you. I especially like your point of changing the nagging self inner critic putting negative thoughts into my head space. I'm learning to be kinder and more supportive to myself. Also your point of self depriving and losing weight is a punishment. Such good knowledge. Thank you so much! ❤
I'm reading "The Kindness Method" right now and it's the same approach you're describing. Such a great way to treat yourself and become the person you are at your core.
Thank you Carla brilliant video I have started my journey of showing up for myself every single day xxx
Love, care, kindness, compassion. xxx
One of your best and most important videos ever. Thank you so very much. ❤❤️❤️ The specific examples of classic things that happen on the path and how to compassionately question and work through it are extremely helpful and would appreciate more of those in future vids. Thanks again. You are a true light.
Thank you so much Leah xx
🩶🩶🩶 Love how inspiring you are!!! Exactly what I need right now. Thanks to you, this is my third day I’ve been walking for 1 Hr per day. I’m currently the heaviest I’ve ever been (I’m about 65 pounds overweight). I am confident that by changing my self talk like you did and showing up for myself by walking one hour every day I will have great results as you did, and be able to maintain a healthy life physically, and mentally. Thank you for everything.
❤❤❤ thank you Carla!!
💜💜💜 THANK YOU, Carla!!
Thank you for sharing this video. This was such an eye opener for me. 💛
💜💜💜 Thank you for this. Really needed it today!
This is pure gold! Thank you ❤ it is all so true. Your words really moved something inside. Becoming your own best friend and quieting your inner voices, the negative selftalk is something no one ever talks about. Coming out of this pain is crucial. Lots of thank yous.
P.S.: I love that you are such an educated person! You can tell that you are investing in selfdevelopment a lot.
Greetings from Germany ❤
Thank you so much Engelin xxx
You just amazing!!! You really make a difference in my life. Thank you. !!!
Thank you for the road example…one of my roadblocks is the attacks from others… that was such a good analogy, get mad for a min, but keep driving ❤️
Thank you for this video, Carla 🖤💚💝
💜🤍💙 Thank you, Carla!
Really need to watch this video today been totally off plan last week or so..❤❤Definitely been sabotaging. And today I said to myself what am I doing wrong and knew straight away I'm not walking everyday, so today is a new day and have made a commitment to myself to exercise/ walk everyday no matter what..
💛💛💛 Thank you! 😊
❤❤❤ as always very wise words. I have to say my auto response to me doing something not "perfect" is self hate. I'm going to try some of these techniques this week and be more self compassionate.
Thank you for your videos… ❤❤❤ makes me want to show up for myself..
❤❤❤ Thank you for the pep talk Carla.
Hi Carla, I only found your channel last night, this is the 2nd video I have watched, however I saw one pop up this morning saying you are considering giving up due to negative trolls, I haven't watched this yet, but I thought I would share my take on you and your channel in the hope it may make you think differently.
You are really pretty, inspiring and so honest, I need help with the majority of the issues you talk about and I'm so happy I have found you, already you are making me feel and think differently, I so appreciate that and thank you so much for being you and helping me and so many others. Also alot of negativity usually comes from jealousy x
Lorna that is so sweet and kind of you, thank you so much for taking the time to comment xx
💜💜💜 great video! This is something I definitely need to learn
I love all your information and the way you present everything. You are so down to earth, living your hard work. You are indeed an inspiration. Be blessed and continue sharing. Thank you for your honesty. Please share what we can do till able to sign up with Slims.
Thank you so much. The best thing you can do is get into the right mindset. Start walking a little, learn to count calories and read testimonials on the website. Then I’m sept you’ll be raring to go x
Can you imagine EVER saying that to a friend?? This is wonderful. Thank you. You make it simple Carla. The pain overweight people go through, is overwhelming!!
Thank you Sharon! I had and remember that pain and I'm still healing from it xx
So happy to find you!
💗💜💗 Thankyou so very much. You are helping me more than anyone has in years! You have made me think about things i have never thought about that is going to be a game changer. Looking forward to the next video xxx
It's honestly comments like this that help me to continue to do what I do xx
Thank you very much❤❤❤
I needed this
So helpful. Thank you. I especially love that there is no wagon.
❤❤❤❤❤
💙💜💛 Thank you Carla xx
❤❤❤ thank you for this video Carla. On the April session of BS currently. Hunger takes over some days and I struggle a bit with food choices. I stay within calorie limit but veer from nourishing to comfort foods. Then I beat myself up
It might help to implement some of the things I mention here xx
BEST VIDEO I'VE SEEN FOR YEARS!!!❤❤❤😊
Awe thank you so much Deanna xx
❤❤❤ thank you ❤
Brilliant video Carla. Really helpful to me right now as I’m almost at 2 stone weight loss and struggling with staying on track. Thank you 🙏 💚💚💚 xxx
Watch out for the self sabotage cycle xx
@@HalfofCarla I will honey. Your videos help me so much. With having a lot to lose, I look at your videos for the inspiration to continue. They help SO much . Thank you 🙏 xxx
Very motivating
Great video Carla 🤍🧡💜
♥♥♥ Thank you for telling your story. I know my emotional state has such an impact.on my eating and my efforts.
This actually brought me to tears. I’m gonna watch it again.🩷🩶🩵
💗💛💜 Great messages. Thank you! 😘
Thank you Carla . I need to talk to myself like I would talk to a friend. I heard you 💚.
💙💛🤍Thank you for your video. I found it a tough listen today as I could hear my own negative voice. But thank you for the reminder about being kind to yourself. Re questions, I wondered how you remind yourself to practise self compassion when you're not in a great place mentally, and ironically need the self compassion even more, but it's always harder then!! Well, at least for me it is. I know you physically bat away negative thoughts and ground yourself. Does it always need to be a physical reconnect in that scenario to take yourself out of your own negative head do you think?
The wagon does not exist... holy cow... you just blew my mind
I stepped on the scale this morning to find that I'm the weight I was when I got sick 5 years ago. Well, actually, 5 years ago was the first time I went into the hospital. I was "sick" well before then, I just didn't know it. It's been a rough road with another week-long hospitalization and several surgeries- minor and major, many medications and almost monthly bloodwork with a massive weight gain. Last August I started on a WFPB journey and since then, I have been able to stop taking several medications, my bloodwork results have greatly improved, the brain fog has disappeared and I'm halfway to my weightless goal. This has been without any exercise. I finally felt well enough to start the gym last week and I'm going slow because I have little muscle and strength left, but I'm starting. This whole time the biggest factor, besides eating WFPB has been changing how I talk to myself. I literally praise my body, telling her she's doing great and thank her for keeping me alive even when I wasn't giving her the nourishment to sustain health. Yes, it's "woo-woo" but we all need to talk kindly to ourselves. Your channel has really helped me with the mental health aspect of my journey. I even started therapy which has helped me deal with some issues I've been suppressing. Thank you so much for showing up for yourself and sharing the "how-to" with us! 🖤👑
Great video!! 💙 💗 💙
Thanks Gabrielle xx
❤❤❤ Taking one baby step at a time, one less mean comment to myself. It's going to take time and practice.
You are surely an inspiration. I’m proud of you!!! 🩷💛🩷
❤❤❤
I hear you. You are addressing my own issues of self negativity. it is obvious you have done a lot of therapy to be successful with your weight loss. Can the work be done without a therapist? Just asking so I can get started. Thanks for your honesty and for sharing. ❤
Absolutely, journaling is how I started to reveal things ruclips.net/video/MVv17bDOtk8/видео.html I made this video about it xx
I am 66. The weight, food has been in my head my whole life. It’s totally exhausting 😢

Hi Carla 👋🏻 just wanted to ask what came first - was the first step the consistency with food prep and walking, and then self compassion came as a second step (as it is consoderbaly more difficult)?
Of course, there's a difference between being precious and being unsafe. 🖤
I’d love to know the author and name of the book you mentioned at 12:00 minutes in.
Thank you for these videos! It’s stirring up a lot of emotion for me but it’s because i have that dialog too.
Everyday I pray for that “moment” when it all makes sense and I learn to treat myself with dignity and kindness.

Hi Carla- I love your channel so much! You have such wonderful advice and insights. Beyond the weight loss but about self care. I eat and exercise differently than you do but I get a lot out of what you share. The mindset is critical in having a positive experience during our weight loss journey 🖤🖤🖤
♥ ♥ ♥
I haven’t seen a video of you talk about how you lost your weight. Was it a specific diet?
It's linked in the video as an annotation, its in the description box and it's my main video on my profile xx
🧡🧡🧡
So when you used to be judgemental and punish yourself, doing hard workouts, did you get any results? or did you become overwhelmed by the punishing regime and give up?
This latest diet I'm on I started by eating 3 proper portioned meals, salad, whole foods, veg, around 1500 calories but maybe really was 1700 calories, no exercise, maybe a light walk round the table at home and some light weight lifting. I did some walk at home exercises sometimes, but not regular. I stopped eating cake and chocolate. I thought that would be enough effort to slowly lose weight. At first I was , then no results, so I started a little fasting in the morning to push on. In the end that seems to be the only way I lose any weight. I can't sustain that over a year, but if I eat 3 meals, I put on weight. So I get annoyed with the way my body works and frustrated. I'm eating well proportioned food, not pushing myself with exercise. Other people that would be enough.
I don't hate myself as a person, I'm just frustrated. I agree with you about not depriving myself, but I get triggered by food, there's no off switch. I'm happy with what I'm eating, I don't miss the cake. It's junk anyway.
Love your message. Thanks
You should exercise regularly if you’re serious about weight loss. It will take ages if you don’t. The fact you aren’t losing weight isn’t a unique issue with your particular body, that’s just an excuse. Anyone that is very sedentary will struggle to lose any weight. Try walking, if you can, or chair exercises if you can’t.
@@jillianrussell3321 I have a physical job which I do 5hrs a day 2 to 3 times a week and as I said I do light walking and weights for exercise. I didn't want to go through my whole diet and exercise history, but in the past I've done a lot of exercise, same problem. I was thinking about all the times in the past I got my weight down and it was always because I was not eating, I wasn't exercising, just not eating. I don't agree with you that hard exercise is the answer. The Zoe institute say hard exercise just makes you hungrier and the body will urge you to put it back. I've experienced that, so I agree, more exercise will cause me to feel hungrier and I'll be fighting that as well.
I've done regular 2 to 3 hour walks, I even started running for 2 hours every day. It doesn't make any difference, I still come to a grinding halt.
