    22:05 I know this is an older video, but one thing that has helped me when my weight is higher than expected: check my rings. How my rings fit will tell me on any given day how much I’m retaining excess water and/or inflammation. If I’m on top of my weight loss behaviors, and the scale is higher than expected, 9 times out of 10 my rings will be tighter over night. Then the weight will usually catch up within a few days.

    🏁 "when you're going through hell, just keep going", has been a helpful motto for me lately. Both in deealing with depression and also when not enjoying a temporary situation like discomfort or working out. I will enjoy it eventually, and calling those situations "hell" is a big exaggeration, but you know what I mean.
    I think for me the hardest thing is trying to overcome a knee injury and also find ways to work out... Used to rely on walking and stair-like activity to get the steps in but can't now. Focusing on what I can physically do is frustrating because I have to give into my limitations, but also freeing because I can see movement opportunities with a different perspective. Thanks for your cautious and relatable content, appreciate you 🖤

    Well I can’t find the checkerboard emoji but I really appreciate you @Carla and your channel! This video came at the perfect time for me because I recently regained some of the weight I’d lost and that was discouraging but then I found out from my doctor last week that my thyroid is not functioning properly and I need to take medication for it.
    Intellectually, I know it makes sense that something wasn’t working in my metabolism anymore, but somehow the diagnosis has been overwhelming and triggering. I’ve literally been vacillating all day about finding a therapist to process things with (which as you mention is a good strategy to deal with complicated emotions and issues) and at the same time, I’ve been doing a bunch of things to try and keep at bay my wanting to turn to stress eating for comfort all week.
    Watching your video now (with the admitted splurge of coffee in hand) has felt a soothing reset. Thank you. I especially appreciate hearing that you didn’t always feel like you could do it but you remember distinctly realizing you were ready to lose the weight because I keep dancing around that myself (and recommitting to it again right now). And when you said that you also recall realizing when you were doing it, was very encouraging. It helped me remember that similar feeling I had over a year ago when I’d lost over 30 lbs and I want to get back to that now.

    • @HalfofCarla
      @HalfofCarla Год назад +2

      Oh Sandy, I can empathise, having a diagnosis can throw you off, but at least the awareness can help you overcome the challenge. And don't fret about coffee, I don't consider that much of a splurge xx

    🏁🏁 That is the EXACT quote that made it click for me too… “what if this time you didn’t quit!” It’s so simple but it really struck something in me. Also Jordan shrinks was a big motivator for me too. I binged watched all of her old videos and it made me feel like I can do this! Also with her being a similar height as me & I thought she looks amazing at 170-180 lbs, maybe I don’t need to lose as much as I think I do. I plan to play it by ear as far as my goal goes, but seeing so many women the same height as me at “higher weights” and they look so small was encouraging to me! I know every body is different of course but as a fellow tall girl I am sure you can relate. We have often always weighed more just by simply being tall! As always thanks for sharing!

    • @HalfofCarla
      @HalfofCarla Год назад +2

      Absolutely Tiffany, I was only having a conversation with one of my best friends who recently lost weight postpartum and she's 10kg lighter than me, but being 3inches taller than her it makes a difference. Also people always carry weight differently. I think Jordan looked unreal at 170-180 where I preferred my figure around the 147. This might change after loose skin surgery though xx

    • @Tiffany_55
      @Tiffany_55 Год назад +1

      @@HalfofCarla So true! It’s so great to have goals but sometimes we have to take a step back and do what’s best for how we look and feel. We all carry weight differently. That’s why I plan to get to my goal range and try to maintain that for a while and see how I really feel. (Plus skin removal can often leave with you 10-15+ lbs less of skin!) I appreciate you making all of these maintenance videos because that’s something I’ve never done, I usually get a good place and then gain it all back, but not this time! ✨💪🏻

    Hi Carla I got plastic surgery on my arms done a few years ago. Skin and fat removed. My surgeon cut my arms from my arm pits to my elbow but the cuts were under my arms not on the sides of my arms. I never saw the scars this way and with the surgery on the sides of the arms the scars are obviously visible. I am so happy my plastic surgeon cut me under my arms. Best surgery ever by the way. Wonderful video Carla! Knowing what your relationship with food was before your weight loss, and knowing all that you did and felt in your previous attempts, how will you approach food with your child? Will you allow him to eat whatever he wants, steer him towards more healthy choices, or keep a closer watch on his weight? I ask because I was put on a diet for the first time at the age of 5, and my parents’ attempts at making me lose weight seemed to contribute to my unhealthy relationship with food. I have my own daughters now and I don’t want my weight loss efforts to skew their relationship with food, but obviously don’t want them to struggle as I have. What are your thoughts?

    • @HalfofCarla
      @HalfofCarla Год назад +2

      It’s so tricky isn’t it Jennifer. We’re going to allow him to eat till he’s satisfied, no “eat everyhing on your plate” kind of attitude. We hope to keep him away from sugar as long as possible but at the moment he seems to like to eat anything we give him (lentils are his favourite) and adjust as we go
