I had a mental shift recently that has allowed me to make room for weight-loss, and it relates to the "what are you missing that causes you to want to overeat" question. For me it was remembering that I am an artist. I have always been an artist, and it has taken me 40 years to remember it. I feel my love for myself the most when I am creating art. I started making time for it every day, and I am not craving food anymore. It is absolutely wild. I have had a lot of therapy in my life, and ironically, I stumbled on this light switch on my own. Now I crave time to be creative. It's a craving that I can and do fulfill every day in sometimes large, sometimes small ways. It's also a gentle craving without urgency, unlike my food addiction. I am satisfied with a little. I am satisfied with a lot. I can tolerate waiting for time and materials, where a craving for ice cream had this urgency, and it was never really satisfied. It's like a river of joy that I can dip into at any time, but I know will always be there, and I am always happy to visit. I highly recommend creative pursuits to people recovering from addiction.

Beautiful!! This is so true and people never talk about it. For me, it was spiritual prayer and church. I needed a greater purpose in life & a reason to be dedicated to my own health. Knowing that God loves me and wants me to be healthy gives me so much motivation. Now when I’m stressed, instead of eating I pray. I’m so happy that art is doing the same for you, and I hope your life keeps overflowing with joy!

I don't know if anyone will see this, but to comment on the feeling empty without the addiction, and accepting you won't "get to"... It is early days tackling my weight and relationship with food, but I have successfully tackled my alcohol addiction. In the beginning I definitely missed it, no matter how good the day was I felt I was missing out not being able to drink, I had not accepted that I was never going to "get to" drink again. And I did not believe I would ever not miss it. I thought every day was going to be forcing myself to make the right choice because I had to not because I wanted to. But those thoughts and feelings were still coming from my addict mentality. In healing what I needed to heal to no longer need to drink, and getting used to a new way of life, I no longer had any desire to drink. Now I do not miss it, I do not feel deprived that it is not a part of my life, I almost never have a craving. A lot of that had come from little by little seeing how much better I felt, how much more I enjoyed life without it. And I imagine weight loss and food addiction would work the same. As you see how much better you feel, and heal what makes you want to overeat, you will feel less and less desire to do so.

I am so thankful for how much you emphasis the mental health side of weight loss. I am down 80 lbs now, I have 40 more to go. I am 100% sure that my success has been because i have actually considered the mental health aspect now. I can’t just take away my coping mechanism (binge eating) without learning new healthy coping skills. That makes all the difference for me

    • @HalfofCarla
      @HalfofCarla  Год назад +3

Absolutely, how can we expect our weight loss to be successful and our weight maintenance sustainable if we remove the only coping mechanism we know to deal with negative feelings. Finding ways to untangle it and to put in new coping mechanisms if needed is the key. Congrats on your amazing success thus far x

Addressing one's damaging life-limiting beliefs is key to recovery, and you are living proof of it. It can be scary to think of giving up unhealthy coping mechanisms - because they’re all we’ve known in terms of how to cope. By learning healthier coping mechanisms and building new habits, it gradually gets easier to let go of even the idea of the unhealthy coping mechanisms and the fear of that goes too. Wishing you all the best. You can do this.

Please make this a series. Please. I am joining Body Slims online in January 2023. I live in Canada. I found you online on Saturday, October 8/22. I started what I know of Body Slims on Thanksgiving Day. I obsessively, of course, watch Body Slims and ALL of your videos and Instagram for inspiration, knowledge and daily motivation. I have lost 130 pounds since 2002 and I have 50 more excess pounds that I never contemplated losing because, get this, I thought it was impossible. Then I watched halfofCarla. Now I know I can get to a 22 BMI. Your story has already transformed my mind set. I now have the mind set missing piece to success. Thank you. 😀😀😀😀

👯‍♀️ I was always 10-30 lbs overweight until I had a surgery at age 40 after which I gained 60 lbs in 2 months. A pound a day! I alternated between fighting hard to lose weight (and mostly failing or quickly regaining!) or just living with my situation. I hated photos of me-I looked like a toad. I didn’t recognize myself. It was a photo someone took at a class reunion and shared with me that shocked me into action! I had lost 14 lbs so I felt SO “slim”! The photo showed how slim I was NOT!!!! Since then, I’ve lost 60 more pounds! The relief you describe is real! I am not obese!!! Clothes fit! I had been obese for 20 years…mostly fighting to lose weight that whole time! If you always do what you have always done, why would you expect a different result? I sure did! For 20 YEARS! Then I woke up and did something different! Great to hear from both of you! Two great stories of success!

In the back of my head I did have limiting beliefs at the time that this possibly couldnt happen for me. Im delighted to report that after just starting my walks prior to the beginning of the April BS program and to now, ive lost 20lbs and I'm at that place you girls talked about and its almost unbelievable! It has taken me a few months, but I have finally gotten myself tracking an hour walk everyday! I am also just being more mindful with food. It is your voice, and experiences that are helping me, and giving me hope thank you. This video really spoke to me, I am watching it while I sip on my coffee before my walk, and I am so happy I clicked on it. I actually started crying when you both were digging into the over eating comment, I feel for this person. For those with binge eating disorders, and those that use food to cope the mental game is the battle. I had a similar experience with Addrianna I lost around 65lbs went from a size 20 to a 12, and then within 2 years I gained it back, I didn't deal with my mental health fully and when tough times came around I chose food to cope rather then deal with my feelings. This time around I am taking my time being honest with myself, and I have decided I need to be kind to myself as I am with others. Moving more, dealing with my mental struggles, and making better food choices slow and steady I will get there again. The freedom of shopping ,and going out feeling great I am looking forward to this relief and happiness! Thank you for the videos and updates, I truly appreciate them so much!

Even 2 years after this was filmed, 17:30 question is the right one to ask, since A LOT of overweight people are facing those problems. Those were my number 1 obstacles to overcome. I wasn't able to pinpoint the emotion that would trigger my binge episodes.
So, *my hack to handle the urge to overeat* - I would overeat on a raw cabbage and feel proud of myself to stay in control, but in the same time I was proving myself (again) that overfullness actually feels bad, and I don't even enjoy it. Over time I stopped doing it.

👯‍♀ (there was no emoji I could find for twins!) - I would dearly love to have more Q+A with the two of you! The segment that rang so strongly for me was the one about missing "getting" to overeat in the future. What it spoke to me about is how to capture that feeling of comfort and relief and place it onto something else and detach it from food. Food can be delicious, desirable and SAFE when you can reclaim it as something with a natural endpoint that does not have to lure you into overconsumption, especially if you can find something safe to go to when there is a need for comfort. Taking a bubble bath, knitting a pair of socks, reading a book, so many other things to take on instead and unlatch food and food indulgence as the source of comfort. It may not be a snap to do, but I find for me that it is what is helping me to keep going on my weight loss journey and to try on what "enough" feels like where food is concerned and to take on a different activity if I need to find a comfort zone.

Thank you so much, you are so inspiring together. I will be doing my 2nd round of Bodyslims in September and hope to be at my dream weight after that. But I am already so happy to have found this program. I have lost a total of 30 pounds so far. I am back to wearing clothes that I love and not ones that just fit. Carla gave me the impulse. I am happy with you for your success, you are brilliant! Sincerely, Ivonne from Hamburg ⚓️🖤✨

Thank you, Ladies! You are beautiful inside and out and offered us such powerful lessons today. Thank you for addressing viewer Q&A - you picked some challenging questions and your insights offered us so much wisdom and practical lived experience! Your prompts to attend to the WHY of overeating were so powerful! SO PRACTICAL AND WISE!!! Some of this information was more helpful than I learned in two years of therapy specifically around food - POWERFUL! Still working on healing the WHY I carry the weight, and overeat -with a trauma-focused therapist. Your videos are so inspiring and I thank you!

👯 So lovely to see two close sisters together addressing some deep stuff and very eloquently too.
You touched on self defamation needing to be overcome. I was very interested by another inspirational channel yesterday saying it is a fact that if we repeat positive affirmations (eg, I am strong or I am proud after completing a walk/workout) that it actually does change our mindset.

👯‍♀️powerful, powerful words and very much to the point! I’ll be watching this again to glean thoughts and make them my own. Please do more videos like this!
I’ll be starting BodySlims in just 4 weeks and because of your video, I just recognized a limiting belief I have. I’ve been dieting for 48 years (16-64). The last success I experienced was doing a very strict Keto, but it wasn’t sustainable - I gained it all back. My limiting belief is that nothing short of keto and fasting will give me any weight loss. I’m throwing that belief out the window as it hasn’t been proven to be true!!!
I’m completely open to the BodySlims approach to weight loss and I believe it will work for me. Thank you ladies!

We all went out to dinner recently. They made good choices ( i didn’t) 😢 But i could hear them quoting Gerard and then burst out laughing.
