I made this trip many times, first when I worked in Chateau d'Oex and subsequently on holiday. I couldn't believe it when I was going to my new job and this was the train journey. I loved it! I also cycled over the Col de Jaman which was a pretty rough track then. It may have been surfaced now. This was a quiet journey. I remember a lot of squeaking from the rails on the tight bends just above Montreux when I did it.

My wife and I did this trip, in both directions in 2012 and 2017 on trips to Europe. This particular journey was a long time wish after seeing "Great Railway Journeys of the World" in 1980! The episode is on youtube. We sat in the observation section at the front of the train, and was blown away with the scenery. This trip is one of the best kept secrets of Switzerland, and the cost was only 10 euros in 2012 and 15 euros in 2017 to travel in this section of the train ( plus Eurail pass). My only question is what camera did you use? It is very good quality, and I am looking for something that can do what you did for our next visit. Really enjoyed re-living the trip.

That was a good video. What was the weather the day after this trip? I ask because of the plow train being worked on, on the uphill out of Montreux. Or would that run during the night when ever snow is forecast or is falling?

First of all , congrats for efforts .. As for your camera : high resolution with lowered contrast has made it smooth and realistic .. Also wide-angle lenses had been choosen very effectively so no disturbing deformations on both sides & corners of the view .. I wished to hear sounds of normal operation too .. regards

Hello Elene. Nice that you are going to Switzerland. It will be worth it. In my opinion it is a bit to much to do Luzern - Montreux via INterlaken-Ost and Zweisimmen in one day. Only in travel time you will need about 5.5 hours one way. That does not include the transfer and waiting time at the train stations inbetween. I would suggest, if possible, to do Luzern to Montreux in one day. Then overnight in Montreux and than go back the next day. Good luck and enjoy! Gr. Joachim - TrainJJ
