I have a Golden Retriever. For a long time, he enjoyed the dog parks. There were so many Doodle mixes! One of the people I got talking to was a groomer. The groomers in my neighborhood of New York City got together and decided how they would price the different types of grooming sessions for these Doodle mixes. Some of the dogs were never brushed except by the groomer, so hours had to be spent brushing the dog. One of the dogs the groomer that I spoke to had had BOTH types of guard hairs - one that kept growing and one that didn't. The owners never bushed the dog and took the dog to the groomer only 2 or 3 times a year. The poor dog needed hours of brushing. She finally had to tell the owner that it wasn't fair to the dog and that they should bring him in for a brushing every few weeks. I had never considered how long takes to brush out these dogs!
Honestly it’s not that bad, it’s the same amount of time I spend brushing my Australian shepherd out just spread out every other day. 20-30 mins every other day keeps the mats away lol.

“The way it should” only really applies to breed standards which usually requires hand stripping. Their fur, contrary to what many believe, aside from thickness maybe, doesn’t change growth pattern but more in texture. Having shorter hair allows the undercoat to be loosened more easily which keeps the dog more comfortable when they are not being used for their purpose. I had a golden, shepherd, sheltie mix, and yes she had beautiful fur, who we had to shave down every summer, even with regular brushing and grooming, because she was just too hot down south. She would become less active and pant constantly. No amount of brushing could curb the dust bunnies. Almost 7 years after her passing, and I still find her fur. We took her to a self groom and had a full on furnado, and she was still panting. As with all things, it’s more about quality of life and time and money management.
We had a Shetland Sheepdog, with an insanely long & thick double coat. He had to be shaved one summer for a medical reason, asked them to take off the rest of his coat, rather than leave him patchy. He was so happy for the next few weeks, acting like a little rough-neck terrier rather than a prissy pretty-boy. We were surprised that his coat came back as thick & gorgeous as before. He just had a summer of enjoying a buzz-cut.

Awww, poor boy. Bless you for taking care of him though, that's so lovely. A lot of people wouldn't do that. Huge respect for giving him the best quality of life possible.
The shots of Freddie's face when you're washing him - he is adorable! ♡
You can tell he’s trying so hard to be the goodest boy ever despite the fact that he’s so nervous 🥹❤️ It’s obvious he has a lot of trust in you 😍
I love that you made a channel for longer content!! I was always so sad when the videos ended. It's also so nice of you to give grooming tips/tricks! I do some basic maintenance on my golden doodle in between grooms and can't even imagine trying to groom all of her -- it really is an art form! Great work and amazing content! 🐕✨
Amazing... These 🐾🐾 are so comfortable with you , you can see their trust in you.
The look on his face just before you started towel drying him was so precious. I loved the way he looked before the grooming but can understand the owners not wanting to deal with the hair.
That's the great thing about hair, in a while he'll be back to the other look, so you get a little of each.
Love the way he looked up at you
Excellent job. He looks like he lost close to 23Kg in that groom. I love you patience with the animals you groom. Keep the videos coming.
What a crazy transformation, his new haircut suits him so well! He looks so much softer now too
He gave you a look like "why do you hate me so much", Made me start laughing.
I LOVE this length of video! 15 minutes is a perfect break. Thank you~
Freddy was a really good boy. He has an interesting coat combination. It's almost like he has natural highlights.
I love Girl With the Dogs! Makes me understand why my Lola's grooms cost what they do, and her grooming tips are great!
Great job, as always! I love your no-nonsense approach. No coddling, just businesslike. Your love of the dogs you treat is clear. I'm learning that talking all the time is not comforting for animals. Thank you.
I like the fact that you look after yourself as well as the dogs, by wearing earmuffs when you dry them. The noise from the dryers can be quite loud. So well done you!
You put so much effort into each groom and are so kind and gentle. You also do really great RUclips clips. Thank you for being an ambassador for all the needy pets, a conscientious groomer, and a great RUclipsr.
That face. And when you put the hoodie on,I melt. If I had it do do over again, I think I would have chosen Dog grooming. I love the way you handle and love the animals. Hello on a beautiful day in New Jersey, the Garden State.💕🙋🏼
I always like how you explain your process of grooming on each dog and the reason why they need to be groomed and how their breed should be groomed...🐕🐩🎃
Bernedoodle. Looks like he's got one of the easier coats to manage 💙
As in, keep it short and that's how we manage this hair 😁
looks like such a good dog, zero aggression and zero signs of possible aggression . unique coat too ❤️
This sweet boy deserves all the treats! He was so good 😍
The look he has after the water on his face right before you towel him off... so cute!
What a well-behaved boy! The dog that left looked so different to the one that walked in. 😂
Dogs always have the defeated look while bathing😄
My Pom looked hilarious wet😂
I found it interesting that once you could see his body, it was very much poodle-shaped even though the coat looks more like Bernese Mountain Dog.
I have 1 Bouvier De Flandres & 2 Saint Berdoodles and I like their hair somewhat long. That “anti-matting” blow drying tip is going to go a long way in this house. Thank you 🙏🏾
Looks like one of my stuffed animals from my childhood. He kept looking at you like "are you done yet" . Your calm voice helps. God bless you!😉
Loving the new channel! You do such a great job building bridges between clients and groomers, explaining actions and decisions in a way that can teach professionals in the industry while not losing pet owners in the explanation!
Pretty cool to watch Chewbacca in dog form get a shave and a haircut! So soothing (for me, but probably not the dog) and informative at once.
He is such a cute dog and was a good boy. You did such a great job with him!
Super cute and handsome boy, and so well-behaved! I honestly liked his look with the shaggy fur but I wouldn't want to deal with all that either. This good boy deserves some treats.
I love both of your channels. Always learning something
for how nervous he was, he was incredibly well-behaved! the work you do on these pups is incredible, he really does look like a totally new dog :)
He’s a very good boy. He seems pretty calm to me. My lab just wants to play with both the water and the dryer. I think you taped this just to prove to his owners that they really were getting their dog back.
He does look like a Frederick and even though he was nervous his ‘after’ is adorable! I hope his owners like the transformation. ❤
He has old soul eyes. Such a good boy for the groom.
I honestly never thought getting a bath and a haircut made animals so anxious till I saw your videos, it’s so necessary for their well-being and overall health but so many are panting and stressed out when you’re trying so hard (and doing such a fantastic job) I’m like - I love going to the hairdresser and getting a good scrub -What’s up?
That’s a fantastic dog!!! As anxious as he was to be as good as he was. Then again, not only says a lot about the dog, it says a lot about you as well.
You did an awesome job with this dog. You're compassion for your animals (aka clients) shows. You were continually trying to reassure him and comfort him. Thank you for having such a big ❤ for animals.
Wow!!! What a drastic colour difference in fur colour. Truly stunning.
😂😂😂 I love this dog, you did a FANTASTIC JOB
His multi colored fringe is everything. Like really, the Russell Brand/ Noel Fielding bang is a killer look for this pup.
He looks so much more comfortable. He really did well through out the grooming. He deserves a big treat and hug! 🐾🤗
I really enjoyed the video. Thank you Vanessa! 🦋
I usually don't care for doodles appearance wise but he was very cute before his haircut. I love his colouration
He looks beautiful after the groom. He was such a good boy 💜🐾💜
Wow what an interesting looking doodle, he was very well behaved all things considered. I would have loved to see his owners reaction too.
I love what you do 💕 you are my favorite dog grooming channel to watch
That was interesting! I couldn't imagine how he would look. I love that his tail has longer hair and is more black than the hair on his body. One of a kind and excellent work!🐶
He is just darling. And you are so kind to these animals.
My heart fell in love with this beautiful precious boy!
Makes sense about the panting. Just like humans who sweat when they're nervous, it does make sense a dog would pant more when they are. Great video!
Enjoyed the groom and your explanations about the unusual coat combination. I agree with another person that it would be nice to see his progression of this dog over the next months/years. Perhaps you can keep a file about him filling out, changes.
Love the long form content. It really shows how much physical exertion goes into grooming. Lots of standing, bending, brushing, all while positioning the dog. On top of that, also getting good camera angles. You really don't see the shear amount of work involved in the
Fredrick looks so cute. I bet he is more comfortable. Thank you for a super video. 😊
What a an enormous dog , he behaved really well. He looks so much better after the groom. Great job. Take care ❤😘😘🍀🏴
These videos are like therapy for me! So calming and satisfying! 🥰
Also, Freddy is one of the most unique dogs I have ever seen! I love him! ☺️
Once he’s clipped, it’s obvious he’s got a poodle body. Beautiful and very sweet!
DANG his coloration is amazing and loving the low lights with the black. Gorgeous sweet boy.
He turned out really cute 🥰 and was very well behaved ❤️😍
Would love to see some owner reactions to transformations this dramatic, although some people wouldn’t agree to be on camera I suppose. Love the videos!
awwww he looks so cute after 🥹🥹🥹🥹 you did a great job! i love his weird fuzzy hair 🥹
What a good boy. Great video. I wish i could've seen the owners reaction.
Awwwe, what a good boy. He looks really good.
He looks really pretty now and I especially like how you left the hair on his tail long.
I personally loved his long hair! He's such a unique looking boy!
OH my goodness, Fredrick is so beautiful and you did an amazing
grooming on him. Yes he is nervous but hopefully in time he will get
use to it. I love your patience with the fur babies and you can tell that
you really love your job. It's so fun to watch you work. Can't wait for
the next videos.
