@@QUICKBOOKS1 years ago I saw some statistics about how many words cats and dogs can learn. It was more for dogs than cats. My Cav has just turned 14 and has only just got heart problems. He's had NO other health issues at ALL his entire life but I guess I just got an awesomely bred dog ❤❤
Our eldest boy passed away a couple of months ago at 13 - no heart issues. A couple of weeks later, his little brother developed a heart murmur. He’s nine. We hope we still have some time together
My friend had a King Cav that made it to 14/15 after years of heart problems. Do you know there are dog cardiologists? Yeah, she was very expensive with her medical bills, but such a sweet dog and so easy to give pills to. My friend asked me to give her pills once because she was going to be out of the house her regular med time. And it was like nothing: pill in the hollow of a raspberry and then poof, raspberry and pill eaten immediately. Hope you have many more happy years with your pup!
Hi! I live in Sweden and I never heard about this. So I looked it up and it’s Norway that has forbidden any breeding of chevalier King Charles spaniels and English bulldogs, due to all their health issues // greetings from Sweden 😎🥰
That's impressive that the government have taken such proactive steps to improve quality of animal life for pets! I'm impressed... Feels like it'd take a fair amount of registration enforcement etc, so doubly good on them.
@@littledonkey26 No. Those countries are a lot more prominent in history (at least the history we are taught in the US). They play big parts in World War I, II, then there were the Italian renaissance, the french revolution and the holocaust which were huge and help illustrate those countries. In comparisson my knowledge about nordic countries is limited to surface level vikings/thor and loki tidbids mostly from pop culture. I'm sure there's rich history to learn, I just haven't yet
I worked as a vet tech for 5 years, and can say with a good deal of confidence that I NEVER met a bad CKCS patient. They were gentle, calm, and very tolerant. I’d consider one as a pet if weren’t for all the health issues you hit on.
I'm a dog daycare employee and one of my favorite dogs was a Cavalier. Sweetest dog ever.. only time when I ever saw her show just the slightest hint of aggression was when the groomer came to the door for her. The Cavalier let out a small growl at the sight of the groomer calling her name. 😂 Lol but from what the groomer said, she was always a sweetheart and very patient despite not enjoying being groomed.
If Girl With The Dogs ever has to quit grooming dogs, no doubt she could have a massively successful career in voice-over. Awesome, easy on the ears, animated, voice.🐶😇
My wife’s mother unexpectedly passed away last year leaving us with 2 cavaliers, ages 16 and 13. Unfortunately within around 6 months the older, Charlie, had to finally go to sleep due to just being super old, joint issues, blind, surviving a stroke etc etc after a full life with a stage 3 heart murmur. His sister Daisy now lives in Paris with us (after flying over with our Scottish terrier Ava) aged 13 with no issues in sight except being selectively deaf. They’re wonderfully calm and loving dogs and somehow get on super well with our Scottish Terrier Ava!
🤣 Yes the dreaded selective hearing illness! I know it well. The breeder we got my Mom's from was getting 15-17 years. I think it depends if you have someone who is trying to improve the breed and raise healthy dogs.
Owner does a great job caring for this dog even if she is a bit chubby. I was impressed with how minimal the matting was in such a silky coat. Very sweet and lovely dog!
@@krisniznik3953 my ex had one, they're fine with their grinch paws. they collect stuff in them and you pick it out, but the hair kinda floats above their paws a bit and it's not too bad.
After being laid off from my job, this type of content fills me with so much joy especially since I seem to be spiraling down deep in my depression. Sailor is a cutie, and I love her.
That's only because there's a better job out there for you. It's okay and healthy to take a "moment" to be sad and grieve, just don't let yourself pitch a tent and stay in that grief. If you need help, get it. You and your future are worth it. Don't let yourself stay in the house either. Get out and talk to people. You're not alone. Say hello and smile at people. When they smile back, it's uplifting for you and for them. Do something you like to do. It doesn't have to cost money, to be fun or interesting. Then...spruce up your resume and start applying for positions that fit or you want to try. One door WILL open. Keep your head up and know that you GOT this! x
What a beautiful little princess! I adore this breed so much but the health issues are heartbreaking. I really hope breeders, kennel clubs and breed associations come together and start taking the breed towards a more healthy standard. These little angels deserve a long, healthy and happy life.
@H. Fritz Rules might change over time, just like in Sweden. Also, even people that have money and dont get rid of the animal, we lost our Cavalier age 6 within a month after diagnoses and there was nothing we or the vet could do to save him from the heartdisease.. The hopelessness we felt back then is the reason we will never adopt a Cavalier again despite their wondeful personalities..
@@HFritz-kp8iosounds like you've only dealt with irresponsible probably backyard breeders. Reputable breeders pay attention to health, keep in contact, ect.
@@FlowerPup_AZ Our Cavalier came from a good breeder and still got the heartdisease age 6 and died a month later. His parents outlived him, just because the parents are cleared at the moment of breeding doesnt mean the pup is free from having the disease in the future. Heart disease in dogs often goes unrecognized for some time-even years. The most common cause of heart disease is characterized by a long preclinical stage when the dog is asymptomatic. Not to even mention all the Cavaliers that get the disease at an older age while they breed with them age 2. Its not as simple as '' just go for good breeding instead of backyard breeding'' because if that was the case my dog wouldve been fine. Theres a good reason Sweden banned the breed.
Sailor is lovely! Those ears are crazy beautiful. My Jude is kept exactly as a cavi should be - just like Sailor. If I lived close to you, I’d definitely bring him to you for grooming. FYI- since we started feeding Jude fresh food (veterinarian recommended Chi Dog for us), he’s lost all that extra weight and had zero yeast or skin issues. Diet really makes all the difference. It’s pricey but sure beats paying hundreds for meds and vet visits and feeling guilty when you deny them a treat! I wish more cavi parents would commit to real food for their fur babies. The difference is just remarkable! Here’s to the grinch feet 😂❤❤❤ Thanks for posting 😊
I never wanted a dog, but when my fam brought home a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy and put her on my lap and she instantly went to sleep my heart just melted. Now I'm both a cat+dog person 👍 ♥
I had a professor at my university who was part of a CKC rescue. The dogs he fostered were just adorable! They were well behaved, and had about 100 students' laps to curl up in when he brought them to school to get them socialized with other people. He often paid good money to have their health issues addressed before they were adopted out.
Our 7 and a half year old Cavalier is the best. He has been neutered (unfortunately). He is not overweight, but we are diligent about his weight. Only high quality treats, and he is fed Viva Raw food, our 1 year old Cav is not neutered and about 16 pounds :) We give COQ10 daily, 200 mg to our 7 year old as he may have a level 1 heart murmur, it is no small task having this breed, so worth it as they are beyond precious
After Wally, this beautiful pup must feel far less sisphyean, eh? It's always soothing for the soul watching you work, Vanessa, especially with your sympathy and compassion towards all animals.
Visually they look like a pretty healthy breed. Decent size, proportional legs, good coat, normal face structure ect. I would have never guess they have so many health issues and even banned somewhere. Thank you for keeping us educated! ❤
Yeah it sucks, they look so sweet yet their possible health issues are so incredibly horrifying. Their brain can even grow too large for their skull with all the nightmare fuel that brings for the poor dogs. Look up "Chiari-like malformation" and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, or even syringomyelia and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They are not the only kind of dogs that can suffer it, but they're too prone to it.
Face/head is unfortunately not normal! They are bred to have a round head which helps the "cute" aesthetic but means their skulls are too small for their brain. They often suffer from seizures etc...looking up videos of seizing pups is heartbreaking!
@@oroontheheels Yeah, that high round domed skull paired with the 'cutesy' button nose contributes to a tendency for CM/SM which is most notably rife in Cavaliers but has also started cropping up increasingly in other breeds that have started being bred with similar head shapes such as Pomeranians, Chihuahua's, Yorkies, Brussels Griffons etc. _Most_ breeds identified as prone to CM/SM have a similar head shape to Cavaliers or are fully flat faced. All of them are relatively small dogs the Staffordshire Bull Terrier being about as big as they get.
Yay for cavaliers! We have a 12 year old cav who is the sweetest. He's tried everything and loves everything and everyone! He's done agility, freestyle, dog shows, done scent work etc. And he played Toto on stage with a children's theater company, and he played with three sets of cast, so three Dorothys. There's nothing that dog wont try! At age 12, he's still healthy and going strong!
@@thetemperamentalecnomist1261 make sure to research the breeder if you are going for it, cause a good breeder has everything to say for the lifespan of your cavalier. A good breeder will have screened the parents for several illnesses and made sure neither parents have any heart issues. I'd make sure its someone who has worked with the breed for a long time and knows all the good and the bad about their dogs. The breed has been slowly gaining better health the past decade, with breeders screening the prospective parents for all the known illnesses and conditions and they also dont breed any dogs under the age of 2 years old, tho many wait longer in order to weed out the ones who might get a heart murmur later on. Despite what many think, the breed is slowly getting healthier and have already increased the lifespan of healthy dogs by several years. If you are going on the adoption route instead, I hope you'll find a healthy one tho I believe that might be harder since we wont know much about their past and genetics.
@@Charoke Thank you, this was valuable info indeed. I've made a mental note of all the points you've highlighted and thank you so much for talking the time to write such a detailed reply. As a pet novice, I truly deeply appreciate it
@@thetemperamentalecnomist1261 You're welcome, it was no trouble at all. Im happy to help! I hope you one day will get the puppy of your dreams and get a longtime healthy and happy companion! Cavaliers are a remarkable breed for their temper and personalities. Good luck in the future!
Yay, a Cavalier! They are the sweetest and snuggliest companions. Finding a responsible breeder is a must, I think. We had a male and a female from the same breeder, and they never had ANY health issues (heart, skin, or ear issues, etc) until their final year or so (both lived to about 14-15 years old), and when they finally passed it wasn't due to heart disease. They also weren't overweight though, as our breeder gave us strict instructions, haha
Hi, former Veterinary Cardiac Nurse here. 50% of CKCS will have heart disease by the age of 5, 100% will have heart disease by the age of 10. Please get them cardiac screened. Look into heart healthy supplements and start them young. Heart failure is horrible.
@@ItsExtraCelestial i think it's from the breeding yeah. my friend has a KCS and I wanted to get one because it's such a sweetie but after researching the health issues, no way. I found some very high end breeders and everything, that claim to have them pretty healthy, but there are much healthier breeds and it seems unethical to keep breeding these dogs :(
True, we have a 13 year old Ruby named Maya that has been on heart medication for almost 6 years, and we have a 2 year old tri color Brody that we will definitely keep an eye on with this disease. Best damn dogs ever.
I've had 4 CKCs, 3 of them have passed and we have one right now. One passed at 14 close to 15 and didn't have heart disease. And another died 11 nearly 12 from lymphoma but didn't have heart disease and was completely healthy until he got cancer. So I don't know where this 100% heart disease by 10 you're saying is coming from. The third one died at 7 and a half from a brain problem because he was abused for many years and we took him in and gave him the best 16 months of his life. But again nothing was wrong with his heart at that point.
Unfortunatly yes, my first dog when i was a child was a Cavalier and he died age 6 of heartdisease. It all happened within a month after diagnoses, he still looked so healthy and young too so it was so confusing. It was a bit traumatising as a child. They are still the most gentle and sweet dogs. Thank you Vanessa for warning about the highly possible risks and just being honest about them.
I love this breed so much. I hope they can find a way to properly breed them. I’ve met a few people who got their hearts broken. I have an 11 yo cavapoo and she’s got the most beautiful expressive eyes and the sweetest heart. She loves being with us and sitting on our laps. When I’m sad she sits near me to keep me company. when I come home from uni I wonder why I bother being anywhere away from her 😢
My mum had a Cav and he was always the most DRAMATIC animal in the bath! He definitely had the ear and skin issues, the latter of which is probably what led to him being shaved the first time. We had our Winnie for 7 years before losing him to stomach cancer, but he was absolutely the most friendly, loving little thing who just wanted snacks and snuggles all the time.
Wow she looks SO MUCH like my Cavalier who was my first dog. I picked out this breed as my first dog when I was 6 because the deal with my parents was "You can only get a dog if you do research, read through this AKC dog breed encyclopedia and make an educated decision about what would be right for our family" aka they wanted to stall me from getting a dog since I would NOT stop asking every 5 seconds for years and I was driving them crazy. Unfortunately for them, I was a hyperliterate child, meaning they didn't realize just how far ahead my reading ability was compared to the usual 6 year old, so I came back having read it cover to cover, highlighted it, and taken notes and picked out Cavaliers and had a whole speech ready as to why they were the perfect breed for us 😂 They're such lovely dogs. It's a shame that it's SO common for them to have heart issues. We lost ours when she was only 6 years old because she had horrible heart problems. But she was so smart and sweet and up for anything. She loved cuddling with us, but also was up for me constantly teaching her new tricks, or going on long hikes with my dad and I. We would have kept getting Cavaliers if it weren't for the insane amount of health problems they have.
I had the same experience as a child. I read, researched, and really wanted a Scottish Deerhound. I finally chose an English Springer Spaniel. My Dad was a hunter so I knew I had a puppy coming. Sherry was a wonderful first dog. Oh and I did get my deerhound when I was 35.
My parents said the same thing and I picked out a border collie… I’m turning 27 in 10 days and STILL haven’t gotten my border collie! I do expect I’ll get one in a few years, though, once the baby I’m having in September is old enough to understand how to properly interact with animals and I have the mental bandwidth to dedicate to training the pup.
I didn't read up on dogs... but I did give my parents a power-point presentation on why I deserved to have a kitten :) eventually caved and she is now the sweetest cat ever, and 11 years later is officially my emotional support cat
Haha my parents did the same when I was four and I wanted a Golden! Dad promised me I could get one when I was 10 and thought I'd forget... then I turned 9 and excitedly said "I get my dog next year!" and he realized he'd made a terrible mistake lol. To his credit, he let me have a Pomeranian (I was a tiny 10 yo and a Golden would probably have flattened me regularly), and I loved my little boy so much.
lol this reminds me of me as a child as well. A dog breed encyclopedia was a great gift for me back then, I owned multiple and read them cover to cover like novels until I was familiar with over 300 breeds.
MY HEART. We had one of these when I was growing up, a ruby colored piece of gold. She was the sweetest, purest little angel that has ever walked this earth. Sailor's little whimpering made me remember how my sweet baby vocalized and oh my god. This year marked the 10th year after her death and I still miss her so much. I love a cavaliers nature and temperament, but I can never ever get another one because of their health problems. No living being should have a head so small that their brain can't fit inside. I remember our cavalier showing "aggression" (more like being a little bit assertive) one single time. We were visiting my grandpa and my uncle was also there with his young puppy. The puppy was already a lot bigger than our old lady and super energetic and wanted sooo much to interact with her. Finally she ran out of energy and patience, went underneath an armchair, and when the puppy stuck her head in there, our dog made this one single growly snarl sound and the puppy backed away (and we kept her away to give our cavalier some breathing room). THANK YOU for showing us Sailor. What a gem she is!
Hah, made me happy when you said, "Good job, Sailor! Is that short for Sailor Moon?", as I had been singing the theme song when you first said her name 😂
My 13 year old cavalier passed away in December 2022. I miss her so much and still tear up when I see anything that has to do with cavaliers. She'd gone deaf at age 6 after an ear infection and also had heart problems and pancreatitis for years, but she seemed to be doing well, right until she had a stroke out of nowhere. I think the fact that she wasn't overweight is why she made it to old age.
I’m glad that owners can actually see their fur baby’s grooming visit, to see first hand the love, attention and professionalism that comes with each session! BTW, if I had one of these princesses, mine would be a tub because those eyes would get to me too!😵💫 I mean, just look at that face! 🥹🫶🏻
We spend the winter in the Villages in FL.We joined their Cavies club.Amazing when we meet there are about 30 of them.We get to be in their many parades. We have had two. Both had strongly bonded to me.If he could glue himself to me he would.
I really loved all the breed information provided! Thank you for bringing to attention the issues owners are likely to face when adopting a certain breed. She was super cute and looks amazing!
My partner’s neighbour own a CKCS and he’s the most adorable little puppy I’ve ever seen! Every time he sees us he gets excited and runs over for lots of kisses and belly rubs! Love them so much!
I just got a new puppy and she loves when I watch your videos. Every time she hears a dog start getting vocal she bolts up and starts doing her little head tilts at the TV. 🥰
Is it the same with Huskies??? I live in an Apartment Building, and, didn't know I needed to turn the Volume down. Thankfully, there are thick and solid walls in this buildiong, so nobody complained.
My sister has two female Cavs and they are truly precious!! Always loving, hardly bark and loyal to the end. When my brother in law passed from cancer at home (with hospice) they had to chase the older Cav down the street when the mortuary took him away😭😭💔💔💔
My aunt had a KCCS and he was such a sweetheart. He played nice, good with the kids, good with other animals, only drawbacks he had was that he was possibly the dumbest creature alive and had an iron stomach. He once ate an entire whole pant leg. We only realized it was whole when he pooped it out and it came out as the entire length of fabric. He was a scavenger so he’d eat anything the second it fell to the floor, so it’s a wonder he didn’t get poisoned because he definitely ate things that dogs are not supposed to have. He did also have multiple tumors that had to be periodically removed. He was a big fan of running into the road, but surprisingly he died of old age instead. Miss the little bugger
I have a cavalier who is 13 and in early heart failure. My other cavalier died terribly with heart issues. It was not an inexpensive situation but oh my goodness how I loved that dog. And I love my sweet old girl and hope she hangs in there.
My Cavalier-Poodle mix sounded exactly like Sailor! The politest, gentlest whines when she wanted something. 💕 She had a heart murmur and a lot of ear problems my hubby and I managed with meds. She was an exceptional furbaby and even after a thyroid surgery she lived to be 14 years old. Cav mixes are such amazing dogs. 💕
We got our first dog, an 8 week Blenheim CKCS just this week. She's everything you said and more. Pet insurance is very, very wise for this breed. She's a picky eater--refuses kibble but scarfs commercially available raw. Thank you Vanessa for being you.
My precious looks exactly like sailor. Living in the heart of Texas, I do keep her shaved most of the year. She is neutered and we fight keeping the weight under control. Everything you said is spot on. 8 years and she is still blessed with good health. As you can tell I love your channel.
My Cavalier lived to 15.5 years. She dies last July. She had a luxating patella surgery, a femoral head ostectomy, seizures (developed after meningitis from a tick bite), allergies impacting her digestive system, dry eye, and anal gland cancer (vet had to check them every week and found the cancer when it was tiny and removable without spreading). She didn’t develop a heart issue until she reach 9 years old and it did not result in her death. Medication, specialty diet, and vet costs were very, very high. She was the best dog and so worth everything we went though.
I haven't encountered a CKC in person so was surprised at the creaky-door-hinge, almost pigeon-coo sound of their whimpering all the time? Can just imagine Sailor using that in partnership with the puppy dog eyes(TM) very effectively to beg treats!
My mom's Cav is 15 and she is having a very hard time finding someone to groom him. He has arthritis and cannot stand long enough (what we've been told). My mother likes him shaved, so he's been cut with the clippers and gotten multiple infections. I wish we lived by you in Canada! He was "chubby" in his younger days, but he's been on a strict diet for years and you'd be proud!!
I think Cavs have the most beautiful face of all dogs! I probably would never own one because of the health issues & just keeping up with the grooming. But they are sweet, gorgeous dogs💖
It is Norway who has banned the breed, not Sweden. That said, my maternal aunt and her family had a Cavalier, but sadly they had to put the dog down after only a year or two. Simply because it developed a severe case of epilepsy, a common disease for the breed. It was so severe that they were worried that one of the kids would find her dead one day because of it.
We have had 4 of these wonderful little dogs and never a bad word from any of them. They are really great companions and very stable. We lost our last one 15yrs ago and went over to Papillons which a re another great breed of small dogs. We pick our third up in ten days. The only major problem with a Cavalier is they very often suffer heart problems. Girl with Dogs makes a fantastic job of all dogs grooming.
As other people in the comments have alread mentioned, breeding cavaliers is illegal in Norway. It's a violation of the Animal Welfare Act in Norway because the breed has so many hereditary health problems that no Cavalier King Charles Spaniel alive can be considered healthy. All Cavaliers alive in the world today descended from only six ancestors. At least one of those six ancestors had mitral valve disease, meaning the left atrioventricular valve of the heart doesn't close properly when it pumps blood into the vascular system, leading to heart failure. That one of the "original six" passed this condition on to a huge percentage of the breed because the gene pool is so small to begin with - and for a long time, a lot of breeders irresponsibly used Cavaliers that have it. Even worse, 90% of Cavaliers have syringomelia, a tendency to form cysts within the spinal cord that can paralyse them and lead to various neurological symptoms - like scratching at nothing for no apparent reason or weakness in the front legs that causes them to fall down. These are just two examples. Some of these neurological symptoms can be very painful. It's terrible! The entire list of known health problems and hereditary conditions this breed has, is too long for one RUclips comment. It's as thick as a phone book. Basically it comes down to this: If you consider buying a purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, you need to understand that you're getting a very inbred, very inherently unhealthy dog, from a breed that has been completely messed up, genetically. They're one of the unhealthiest dog breeds in the world. Even if you get one from a responsible ethical breeder who checks their dogs for heart problems etc., it's still going to be a fundamentally genetically flawed dog that will be very prone to develop massive health problems throughout its life. People who buy purebreds or "backyard breeder specials" of this breed need to know that they're helping to perpetuate a very bad situation.
There are some right here but a lot of wrong to. You should be better informed before you talk. The 90 % syringomyelia in the breed is just not true. The breed is not forbidden. If the Supreme Court agrees with Lagmannsretten, it will be forbidden with registered breeding - not forbidden to own a cavalier. Which is totally bonkers because that means that there will be no control at all with the breed’s health. And if you check statistics with insurance companies in Norway, you’ll learn that the Cavalier is not on top of the list of breeds with difficulties. But it need new blood - that is true. And there is already a program in progress to do so. The heart issue is an important factor and there is a lot of work going in to make it better. For now it is totally legal to breed, own and sell cavaliers in Norway. In August the Supreme Court will have a final verdict in the case.
My two year old cav is so cute but like a lot of cavs, he’s overweight too🥴 he’s on a diet and he’s slowly losing the weight, we’ll get there but it’s his eyes, such begging eyes, they just hypnotise us. I loved sailor, her coat was beautiful and fluffy. So stinking adorable 🥰
I had 5 Cavaliers, and never had problems with their skins, ears, etc. I must admit I had time to give them a good groom every week, trimming their feet, and making sure the inside of the ears were kept trimmed .so they had good air circulation. They also had lots of exercise so their nails were kept short. The one problem they almost all had was a heart murmur,, so they were on heart tablets every day. However, living in France then, I found vet's fees very reasonable. 4 of them lived to 13 - 14 years, but one at the age of 5 developed epilepsy, so it was kind in the end to have him put to sleep. They are wonderful little dogs. I loved them all so much, and have given me many, many happy memories.,
I used to have a cavalier. He was silly and smelly and I miss him so much. He was abandoned on our property by what I am guessing is a backyard breeder because he had a huge underbite and one huge fang on one side. The whole neighborhood fed him and took care of him because he had such a sweet temperament.
OHMYGOSH I LOVE CAVALIERS!!! I aim to own one soon but I am a huge fan! I have been secretly waiting for this breed to appear on this channel. I just looked at my notifications and clicked on so fast lol. Immediate fav. Can't wait to see her glow up!

Aw! I love that I finally see you do another cav! Never shave a cav! My little cav is nice and trim and is very athletic as he is a fetch addict. They do have so many health issues which is unfortunate because these are the most amazing, sweet and loving dogs you will ever meet. Such special dogs. Sailor is so beautiful and her little whiny protests were pretty cute.
Cavvies are my favourite breed and I’m getting a beautiful tri colour girl soon after she is retired from breeding. I can’t wait to have my silky ear girl snuggling on the couch with me

That's impressive that the government have taken such proactive steps to improve quality of animal life for pets! I'm impressed... Feels like it'd take a fair amount of registration enforcement etc, so doubly good on them.
@@mayag8469 just out of curiosity, do you ever confuse Germany, France and Italy with them being grouped together too?
@@littledonkey26 No. Those countries are a lot more prominent in history (at least the history we are taught in the US). They play big parts in World War I, II, then there were the Italian renaissance, the french revolution and the holocaust which were huge and help illustrate those countries. In comparisson my knowledge about nordic countries is limited to surface level vikings/thor and loki tidbids mostly from pop culture. I'm sure there's rich history to learn, I just haven't yet
Not only queen of puppy dog eyes! Queen of the puppy dog whine too! So cute.
I know!!! I’m dying ❤❤💀💀
Cavapoo’s are a great compromise! Same temperament better health.
I KNOW RIGHT. All my cavalier patients are so sweet. Most of them are overweight too... but those eyes!
I was also a vet tech for a few years and CKCS are SO gentle and sweet. I never saw a hyper or reactive CKC. They’re a special breed for sure.
Are there the same health issues in cavipoo’s (CKCS & mini poodle mix)
If Girl With The Dogs ever has to quit grooming dogs, no doubt she could have a massively successful career in voice-over. Awesome, easy on the ears, animated, voice.🐶😇
I love her narration and she's funny.
I love her voice too ❤
I watch this now. And actually it is in Norway forbidden even like the English bulldog.
16 is amazing I had one that lived that long who was one of the oldest of his line. He survived cancer and heart failure twice.
'Selectively deaf'
So a cat 😂
@@frumpusnumpus I'm convinced most Cavvies are part cat. Ours definitely is, lol.
@@frumpusnumpus I was thinking that too 😂😂 they'll hear the can opener a mile away but yell for them to come inside?? NEVER!!!
She is adorable, but I wonder how they walk her with the long hair on her feet.
Hang in there! 😊

@@leeannw8180 that's what I was going to say, appreciate ya💕😽
That's only because there's a better job out there for you.
It's okay and healthy to take a "moment" to be sad and grieve, just don't let yourself pitch a tent and stay in that grief. If you need help, get it. You and your future are worth it.
Don't let yourself stay in the house either. Get out and talk to people. You're not alone. Say hello and smile at people. When they smile back, it's uplifting for you and for them. Do something you like to do. It doesn't have to cost money, to be fun or interesting. Then...spruce up your resume and start applying for positions that fit or you want to try. One door WILL open. Keep your head up and know that you GOT this! x
I'm so sorry! I am glad these videos help. 🤗
I love this groomers' personality. She shares information related to the Cavalier Spaniels, and she is professional and kind to the dogs.
I think that is why she started up THIS channel, too. This one is more for education. I didn't know about the Cardiac Defects.

What a beautiful little princess! I adore this breed so much but the health issues are heartbreaking. I really hope breeders, kennel clubs and breed associations come together and start taking the breed towards a more healthy standard. These little angels deserve a long, healthy and happy life.
As someone who lost their first dog(A Cav) age 6 to heartdisease when i was a child, i couldnt agree more.
Only the Netherlands cares about breed health, apparently. IFC and AKC don’t give a shit about pug health at all.
Cat shrimps omegaLUL
You were converted and happy for it !! YAY
That size dog is about the size of a Maine Coon, so you started out close to cat 😂
What was her name and what did she look like?
the glamour shots at the end were like "don't hate me just because I'm beautiful" What a sweetheart!
I understood that reference
I had a professor at my university who was part of a CKC rescue. The dogs he fostered were just adorable! They were well behaved, and had about 100 students' laps to curl up in when he brought them to school to get them socialized with other people. He often paid good money to have their health issues addressed before they were adopted out.
Bless his sweet soul! 💞
As any reputable breeder/fosterer would do.
Bless that man!
@@Peach_in_disguise oooh! Sorry to hear that! I didn’t even know they bred skull shape 😬
Brachycephalic breeds like this, pugs, etc... have MANY health issues
I’d love to have one someday and this makes me soo hopeful! Cheers to your old ball of floof abs hope he lives on some more ❤
@@thetemperamentalecnomist1261 make sure to research the breeder if you are going for it, cause a good breeder has everything to say for the lifespan of your cavalier.
I just adore how she gently whimpers and stares at you!
Hi, former Veterinary Cardiac Nurse here. 50% of CKCS will have heart disease by the age of 5, 100% will have heart disease by the age of 10. Please get them cardiac screened. Look into heart healthy supplements and start them young. Heart failure is horrible.
D:
Is this just from genetics??
Ouch. Sorry - I know that hurt, and still does. But your story is one of love, so thanks.
I love this breed so much. I hope they can find a way to properly breed them. I’ve met a few people who got their hearts broken. I have an 11 yo cavapoo and she’s got the most beautiful expressive eyes and the sweetest heart. She loves being with us and sitting on our laps. When I’m sad she sits near me to keep me company. when I come home from uni I wonder why I bother being anywhere away from her 😢
Sailor is a cute, sweet pup. Her little cries pulled at my heart.
Oh they totally know what they're doing! 😂
Golly the little cav noises 🥺🥺🥺 I love my girl she sounds the exact same but she’s a ruby ❤
AW, poor baby!
5:53 oh, the little squeaks!
Unfortunately for them, I was a hyperliterate child, meaning they didn't realize just how far ahead my reading ability was compared to the usual 6 year old, so I came back having read it cover to cover, highlighted it, and taken notes and picked out Cavaliers and had a whole speech ready as to why they were the perfect breed for us 😂
They're such lovely dogs.
It would kind of track since Usagi is a big, sucky crybaby like Sailor is :3
My 13 year old cavalier passed away in December 2022.
Her big eyes and soft cries are so cute!🥰
That paw during the dry is adorably polite.
She's just adorable! I wanna thank you for always telling about health issues in the breeds! I learn a lot!
I’m glad that owners can actually see their fur baby’s grooming visit, to see first hand the love, attention and professionalism that comes with each session! BTW, if I had one of these princesses, mine would be a tub because those eyes would get to me too!😵💫 I mean, just look at that face! 🥹🫶🏻
The eyes of a Cavy are truly soulful.
Sailor is sooo cyyuuutte!❤
Her side eye when you said she was stinky, 😂
She moves like a silk sheet in a summer breeze ❤
The grumpy lip when you blew out the ears killed me😂😂❤❤
I have a cavalier who is 13 and in early heart failure. My other cavalier died terribly with heart issues. It was not an inexpensive situation but oh my goodness how I loved that dog. And I love my sweet old girl and hope she hangs in there.
Try giving Hawthorne drops (1 drop per lb). The kind without alcohol from the health food store, it helps 30%.
Her coat is dreamy! Such a gorgeous girl. Her owners take very good care of her. What a treat to watch her groom.
That look of "how dare you" after she's called stinky 😂😂😂😂
Even the little cries sound so adorable 🥰
My Cavalier-Poodle mix sounded exactly like Sailor! The politest, gentlest whines when she wanted something. 💕 She had a heart murmur and a lot of ear problems my hubby and I managed with meds. She was an exceptional furbaby and even after a thyroid surgery she lived to be 14 years old. Cav mixes are such amazing dogs. 💕
Which kind of poodle? Standard or toy?
She is sooooo PRETTY!!!! And when you finished with her, WOW!!!! Wish I could afford a dog like that, but....
We got our first dog, an 8 week Blenheim CKCS just this week. She's everything you said and more. Pet insurance is very, very wise for this breed. She's a picky eater--refuses kibble but scarfs commercially available raw. Thank you Vanessa for being you.
How happy and beautiful Sailor looks in the yard - her true personality showing through.
Oh my god!!! Her playing in the yard at the end, my eyes have been blessed.
You are amazing, Vanessa!
Will Atherton's breed of choice when it comes to the small dogs. They are so cute!
Her little baby face is too cute
that sad sound she made as soon as you hit her with the water was so funny. she literally pouted.
The little whimpers ❤
The little throaty snivels when she's getting shampoed is just adorable as her eyes
I love how she turned away from you when you told her to shake it off XD
She is the cutest thing i have ever seen, and i have seen some cute dogs. Those eyes are deadly.
I think Cavs have the most beautiful face of all dogs! I probably would never own one because of the health issues & just keeping up with the grooming. But they are sweet, gorgeous dogs💖
So cute the way she wined during the grooming!🥰
Omg the cutest and kindest little thing.... I wanna hug it so bad!
Omg her little noises when getting washed made me want to scoop her up like a baby.
Such a beautiful fur baby! She makes me want one ❤
Sailor is so cute!! Her whining voice is so adorable 💕💕💕
Her little whine is the cutest thing ever.
I know exactly how you feel. I started eating food in my room because It is so hard to say no when she uses those sad puppy eyes.
I loved them all so much, and have given me many, many happy memories.,
So precious and I love that her family takes great care of her coat. Sailor is so huggable with those puppy eyes🥰❤
She's SO gorgeous!
Sailor is quite a beauty! I don’t know what I love more - the ponytail ears or the grinch feet. Thank you for sharing her.
Can't wait to see her glow up!
oh my goodness her little face in the hoodie!! She is just the sweetest girl
What a gorgeous coat! Sailor is adorable. I love her floofy paws, too.
Her little whimpers 😭 she is so sweet and pitiful
A gorgeous fluffy Spaniel!!! Love her!!!
I had a neighbor who got a cavalier bichon mix. She had all kinds of allergies. She died from heart failure at the age of 6 years old. I adored that dog, miss her terribly, and my toy poodle didn't get past her best friend's death for years.
When she showed the ears, it reminded me of our Lab-Cross who was allergic to Wheat Products. Not the same breed, but, a full reminder.
The look that girl gave you when you said "diet" was absolutely priceless! 😂
Cavaliers are the sweetest dogs on earth 💕
They have the sweetest faces and eyes. ❤❤❤❤
She has the sweetest baby face ever
She's so sweet and so beautiful!!! Cavaliers are one of my favorite breeds. I wish I could have one. Sailor, you are adorable. ❤
The breeder I’m getting her from is meticulous about improving the blood lines and is working hard to breed out a lot of the problems you mentioned. I can’t wait to have my silky ear girl snuggling on the couch with me
They also are very, very, good at making you feel sorry for them any time they’re in the vicinity of a bath
