Recruiters reject you for one of hidden reasons. Discrimination when they hear about your demographics.

Thanks for sharing! It's unfortunate that some recruiters do discriminate based on demographics. I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you. What type of position are you seeking?

Very true. It's beyond sad. Multiple degrees, previous work experience at companies, much more reputable than theirs, is still not good enough! Hah

So what about people that don’t have experience and is looking to transition careers?! Or new graduates ?
It is so many jobs that are listed as entry level but has long for 3 years of experience. Make it make sense .
There are people who went to school for certification and still can’t get jobs bc they have no experience. Nothing is making sense . Discrimination is one for sure

I had an interview today. The recruiter asked me if I had experience with software, NOT listed in the job description. He also asked me if I had experience working with 2 custodians that aren't listed in the job description. Seems like he was looking for a way to disqualify me for the position when I am beyond qualified for it, considering I'm currently working a firm much larger where my workload is much larger than theirs. It's laughable!

It can be frustrating when interviews take an unexpected turn. It’s possible the recruiter was exploring additional qualifications. Stay confident, highlight your skills, and your experience managing larger workloads. It’s great practice to ask clarifying questions about the role’s requirements. Keep positive, and best of luck!

@ProfessorHeatherAustin Can you confirm if HR has a way to discover potential employees previous EEOC activity? In particular, if they have received a "right to sue letter" in the past regarding a previous company's discriminatory acts?

Heather seems like a good person,, but I'd stay away from purchasing the career advancement kit. You only get like 12 minutes of instruction on building a resume and much of that same info was found in her videos. Also the same goes for the cover letter sections and the linkedin sections, which are even SHORTER!....It's just that all of the modules are INCREDIBLY short. I kept thinking, am I missing something??? Why are all of these modules so incredibly short and basic? The only thing you are really getting of value in the career advancement kit are the templates. THAT IS IT! I expected so much more in depth information from Heather....They really should rename it form Career Advancement Kit to Helpful Templates to us for Job Searching or something like that. Anyway, I ordered it awhile back and was extremely disappointed, especially when you consider what you pay for it....... I think that's probably what keeps the views on her videos so low compared to her subscriptions. Probably alot of disappointed people who have went elsewhere.... Luckily I've found an alterative teacher on you tube who puts out much more detailed specific information and I love it! Again, Heather's free info is great but go elsewhere if you want much more in depth information on those subjects... Her Templates are good though, but over-priced in my opinion.

You are incredibly patronising and denigrating.
Job searchers, especially those in long-term unemployment and who are experienced, are intelligent enough to know which jobs match their skills and experience. They also have brilliant resumes, can network and have everything else that you've mentioned. Don't you think job searchers would be making the effort to do all of these things? And despite doing what's required, they are still rejected.
Why? The ATS system, cronyism, internal candidates, favouritism, nepotism, racism, etc.
This is what needs to be addressed.
Seems you're more interested in pushing your courses/products than actually providing sound and useful advice.

I'm genuinely sorry if my response came across as patronizing or denigrating, as that was never my intention. I deeply empathize with the challenges job seekers face, especially in the face of factors like ATS systems, cronyism, and various biases that can influence hiring decisions. My goal has always been to offer guidance and support to job seekers, and I understand the frustration that can arise from seemingly insurmountable obstacles in the job market.
You're absolutely right that job seekers are intelligent, skilled individuals who often face hurdles beyond their control. While I do offer courses and products aimed at helping individuals with their job searches, I also provide a wide range of free advice and resources to assist job seekers in navigating these challenges.
It's essential to address the systemic issues you've mentioned, and I'm an advocate for fair and inclusive hiring practices. If you have any specific questions or topics you'd like to discuss, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to provide helpful insights. Your feedback is valuable, and I appreciate your perspective.
