    Heather, do you have any suggestions on how to successfully get remote companies to respond? I have worked remote for many years. How can I reflect that to get some response?

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  20 дней назад +4

      Great question Courtney! To get remote companies to respond, highlight your extensive remote work experience on your resume and LinkedIn profile. Showcase specific examples of managing projects across time zones, virtual collaboration skills, and your ability to maintain high productivity independently. You can also tailor your cover letters. Hope this helps!

    I was also wondering if it would be better to apply on the company website instead of indeed, Career builder, LinkedIn, etc.

    • @rebeccahowie7234
      @rebeccahowie7234 16 дней назад +2

      That’s what I was thinking!! Sometimes jobs on these other websites aren’t reliable. I would to go to the company page and apply from there.

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  14 дней назад +1

      For sure! Apply on the company website first and then use LinkedIn or a company directory to find the hiring team / managers for your follow up! Wishing you all the best.

      Ok. Some companies on LinkedIn or Indeed don’t even have websites. Thanks guys!!!

    Networking is an area of improvement and I would say a 2. A big piece is going beyond what you might think and put any negative thoughts or doubts to the side and just go for it and send the inmails, emails and make phone calls.

    Any tips for networking as an introvert? I hate the bs chit chat, do I just have to push through it?

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  14 дней назад +1

      Great question. Networking as an introvert can be challenging, but focusing on quality conversations can make it more rewarding. Prepare thoughtful questions related to the industry or the person's work to foster meaningful discussions. Leverage platforms like LinkedIn for more comfortable interactions. Remember, authenticity matters, so prioritize genuine connections over small talk. Hope this helps!

    I once told my sibling that I am looking for a job after getting laid off. I worked in tech and am over 30 years old. And all my sibling says is 'work for Starbucks as a barista'. Never asked what my career goals are, let alone to see my resume to pass it along. But they are getting 90k, and want me to stick to minimum high-school level jobs... How's that for supportive...?
    This, however, has been super helpful. Thank you

    I'm fed up applying and then get the standard message auto message saying sorry your CV is not being chosen sorry we cannot give feedback

    • @LADYLEO411
      @LADYLEO411 17 дней назад +1

      RIGHT, I applied for a position online, not even 5mins later, I got the dreadful auto message.
      Even though, I met the qualifications...
      I was like WTH?

    • @ProfessorHeatherAustin
      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  14 дней назад

      The auto responder messages are the worst. It just shows how fast their ATS systems are working. Making sure you include proper keywords and keyword phases can really help. Also, try to get in front of a person by reaching out to anyone on the hiring team. Thanks for watching.

      @@ProfessorHeatherAustinI do although hr is usually the person/s you make enquiries with in the first place, matter how positively the pre application discussions, still hr send auto reply after deadlines.

    Thankyou for such useful templates and insightsprofesor. I am really enjoying your profile and content. However, do u have any specific suggestions for career changers as an International student? and by career change I dont mean from sales to customer service kinda change. I mean a more unconventional change like from Dentistry to Digital Marketing. Anyone here can connect me with someone already done a similar change would be really helpful. Thankyou in advance and I hope we all get what we are looking for soon :)

      @ProfessorHeatherAustin  14 дней назад

      Thank you so much for your kind words and for following my content! I'm glad you're finding the templates and insights helpful. For career changers, especially as an international student aiming for unconventional transitions like Dentistry to Digital Marketing, it's essential to highlight transferable skills and relevant experiences. Networking with professionals who have successfully made similar changes can provide invaluable insights and guidance. LinkedIn can be a great platform for connecting with individuals who have navigated similar career shifts. Hope this helps!

Also do I explain in my resume or cover letter the reason for the absence, Omit dates in the resume, It seems I can't get past the ATS system. Thanks for your help.

    Weak sauce advice boooo! Why not go directly to the hiring manager? They are the ones who create these positions. They know if they need people and create the budget for these roles. I say skip the recruiters.

    • @LADYLEO411
      @LADYLEO411 17 дней назад +1

      WHO do you talk to to get the hiring managers contact info.? (i.e. Name, number or email?)
      Most companies don't provide that information esp. in the I.T. field!

    • @santafilipina9020

      @@LADYLEO411 So "hiring manager" is just a catchall term. Go to the company's LI page and click on People where they list employees. From there glance over the titles. You can pretty much tell if they have the authority to hire, for example, Head of Operations or Office Manager would be a good contact. From there you can fire off a nice missive.
