Hi Prof. Austin thank you🤲🏻 does this apply to career changers too? Especifically when the last 10 years are at the same company, having the same duties.
Disliked: AI is now used in most large companies to "weed out" most resumes, and the formatting is extremely precise, so much so that you're better off slopping all this stuff down on a word document and paying someone firmiliar with, or better still, HAS the AI program your resume will be filtered through, to write your resume for you. So, while you may be qualified, or be the most qualified person, for the job you want, this video cannot help anyone get there. It doesn't even mention AI filtering. One word wrong, one thing out of place, even the attempt to "stand out" by humor or being charming, and NOPE, the AI sends it to the burn pile. Welcome to the world of nihilism and selfishness, where the first judgement has already been made before you introduce yourself, neither you, nor anyone else, matters as a person. Obviously, these people never watched movies like, Rudy, or, The Natural. Welcome to a world where grit, determination, passion, or an always gets the job done attitude could not matter less. So just pay up. No person can thread the needle against an AI that is targeting specific word combinations. How do I know and why should you believe me over the nice lady in this video? Because I write computer programs and I know that thousands of man hours can go into any program and I know that when you face an AI program, you aren't up against one person or even a team of people reading through resumes, using human judgment and intuition to maybe give a "stand out" person an honest chance. No. You face a program designed by people who are programers, people who wrote this program for the specific needs and wants of a company. Basically, you are throwing a dart through a thousand "Bull's Eye's" and you must hit every single one perfectly. Who can do that? Obviously, the AI can. Which is why you pay someone who is intimately firmiliar with the AI program, or who has the AI program, to write your resume for you. Then it is the AI program telling the AI program, that you're a candidate for the job you want. Sound insane? That's because it is insane. The core weakness of it all is, soon it will be AI program hiring an AI person, not a real person. We, as real people, won't even be a factor any more. Charm, charisma, quirks, and undesirable people will all be overlooked due to AI worship and the worship of technology. How's that for a false idol? Companies will stop trusting their gut to the degree that they don't even have that intuitive gut to trust. You know, that tickle in the back of your mind, the clench in your stomach, that smile in your heart that says, "Yes, that's exactly what we need", or "No, something I can't put my finger on tells me, no way". Ya, THAT human thing we all have that prevents us from picking up some lunatic hitch hiker or stops us to pick up a hitch hiker that is a person who just ran out of gas, ya, THAT, will be gone or ignored, because "M' AI said!" Pathetic if you ask me but, you can't stop stupid. People have these things for a good reason, things about them that computers can't quantify or comprehend. And those things can, very much, tip the scales for the good of others, may even save lives. No AI can do that. Only a human, good and decent, thoughtful and humble, caring and decent, can. Computers and programs have their uses and their place, and it shouldn't be as "gate keepers" to human beings. That is our duty, our responsibility, and what we are meant to do. Yes, I said it. Human's are here to use their own judgment, intuition, and heart, with, for, or against, other humans. I'll even go a step further and say, it is necessary that we do so. It may be an unlikable and sometimes heart wrenching thing we do but, we should do it, not some program in some machine, who really, in the end, won't be doing it anyway. We will just be dilluding ourselves into believing that the AI machine has done it when, in fact, it won't have been done at all. Dangerous, stupid, and perhaps deadly. But, when AI vs. AI, that is the insanity we'll all get. So, pay up and do your part to play this out. And when an AI passes some lunatic through the process, who ends up turning him/her self into a human bomb and blows up an entire business, and AI is to blame, and businesses realize that humans need to to what humans were meant to do, pass reasonable, honest, good-faith judgments, on one another, not machines, and we develop ourselves and our goodness and our wisdom and our forgiveness and our character, to make wholesome decisions, instead of writing programs. Humanities future is with humanity, not with technology. If we're going to do that, the answers won't be found with a programmer, rather with a philosopher or a theologian, in religion and with God.
@@JS-pw8nrok I actually read your entire response. Lol And you have some great points. Specifically though, how would one know which AI their resume will go through?
I enjoy your content Professor Heather Austin. I used your template last year to sharpen up my format. I had always been hired via word of mouth and the resume was a formality so I never received any constructive criticism until I had to make a resume do some heavy lifting. I shotgunned a dozen terrible resumes out there and got the feedback from a few HR folks. I was honestly embarrassed but then I found you and spent a few days formatting my content. The results were immediate! Thank you 🙏

I have some questions: 1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate). 2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role 3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies 4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years* *Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*..
Hi Prof. Heather, I went back here because I just wanted to say thank you. After using your free template and watching your videos I got multiple offers and job interviews as well. I was hesitant at first because they said if you have no experience or less experience, your resume should only be 1 page but I just followed what you have there and tailored it, I actually never had any issues with it although I don't really have a strong resume profile but you made me feel like I would kill it in any ways. I am already hired and I still want to continue watching your videos for future reference. Your free template and samples are so worth it!
Thank you, Professor Heather! I recently used your resume and cover letter template and tips, and it worked like a charm! The first company I applied for made me an offer with a slight increase in compensation and the potential for growth! Honestly, I cannot say thank you enough......THANK YOU!
That's fantastic news! Congratulations on your new opportunity! 🎉 It's so rewarding to hear that the templates and tips made a difference for you. I thought my resume was good but now I can literally see the big mistake I had was in my professional summary lol. Fingers crossed I land more opportunities with this new format thank you!
Areas of Expertise is a section I would add. Quantifying corporate healthcare compliance isn't easy to do in diverse organizations and this section helps to pin point specific industry expertise.
Thank you much, Professor Austin! I just discovered you a few days ago as I’m currently in the job search and was looking to give my resume + cover letter a much needed overhaul to better highlight my value proposition. I spent several hours yesterday implementing your advice and tips and landed an interview today! Btw, in hand delivering my resume at the end of the interview to my interviewer, she was visibility impressed how simple yet punchy it was displaying my career history. I can’t thank you enough! I’m still struggling getting my cover letter to one concise page 😅 it flows over just a tad on the second.
Fantastic content! I appreciate how you've provided concrete examples of mistakes and offered practical solutions. Your advice will undoubtedly help teachers navigate the job market outside of education more effectively. Well done!
I'm glad to hear you found the information helpful! If you have any questions or need further tips on refining your resume, feel free to ask. Best of luck with your revisions!
I don't agree that putting the date of graduation should be included if the date was more than 10 years ago or so. This is because it is a good way for employers to age discriminate as the graduation date hints to how old a person is not wanting to hire a older worker. If they ask during the interview then you can tell them but you want the interview first. HR will verify the date anyway but you want to make it to the interview.
Hi Professor Austin! Just come across your videos. So excited with your content. I will be spending the next few days formatting my CV and the content. May be watching your videos a few more times! I feel so much more energised and focused. Will let you know how I get on. Thank you 🙏
Yes, LinkedIn can be quite important. It serves as a professional networking platform, helps you connect with colleagues, employers, and potential clients, and is a valuable tool for job searching and recruiting. It also allows you to showcase your skills, experience, and receive endorsements, making it a dynamic online resume and personal branding tool.
Heather new to you and prior to investing in your program. reviewing your information to make the best decision.. so great info so far.. thank you in advance..
Hi professor Austin! Your videos have helped me soooo much over the years including getting out of a rut after graduating and not getting any interviews/calls for 8 months in 2019
So glad I stumbled unto your YT channel!! Subscribed and downloaded your free prompts and templates. I have a question for you... Do you have a great functional resume template? I have over 15 years of elective titles as an administrative professional, office manager, project manager, HR generalist and have gained vast experience in coordinating, planning, implementing, and executing, etc. in several industries. I feel like I'm regurgitating the same information and it's boring even to me. However, I am going to implement the AI tools immediately and see my new result(s).
Thank you so much for subscribing and downloading! 🌟 It sounds like you have a wealth of experience across various roles. A functional resume can be a good choice in such cases. I do have a functional resume template which emphasizes skills over chronology, helping to highlight your transferrable expertise. It's located inside our Career Advancement Toolkit. It's great that you're exploring AI tools too; they can give valuable insights. Please let me know if you'd like more guidance on restructuring and refreshing your resume. Here to help! 🚀
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin Thank you very much Heather. I used your format & ideas for my one page, minimalist application to substitute teach. I really like it. Especially the top formatting. I have a multiple subject teaching credential. It's been years since I worked in public education. I don't have current references. I wrote that I would provide copies of previous letters. Hurdles in my psychology & experiences. Kathleen Jasper's education youtube videos and her resume advice also helped me get across my river! I also want to work again in the the social security system.
Thank you for always making awesome content, this is very timely with all the layoffs happening. If I may, I would like to know your thoughts on adding (relevant) promotions within the same organization and if it adds value for the job seeker, or just stick to the last (or most relevant) position held in that organization. thank you again
definitely highlight that you were promoted! promotions only go to stand out people so you need to make it clear that you are a stand out! don't sell yourself short!
What do you think about creating and leaving a resume on your Facebook for people to see in case someone may be interested in you for something...❓️❓️❓️ Also, do you perhaps think it's a good idea to make a resume for seeking romantic relationships/friendships...❓️❓️❓️
I need to do a resume but haven't had to do one for 20 years so how far back do you go with experience. Is high school education relevant when I have 2 diplomas from college?
Hi Professor Austin. Thank you so much for this video. All of your content is really helpful. I am looking to make a career change and you mention in the video that I should include this in the career summary section of the resume. Are you able to provide any guidance on this please? 🙏
Hi! Thanks for watching. Include your career change in the summary section of your resume. Briefly highlight your past experience and skills, but focus on how they relate to your new career goals. Use keywords and phrases relevant to your desired field and show your enthusiasm and commitment to making the transition
@ProfessorHeatherAustin When you work for a job and are promoted to a supervisory position or change jobs within the same company, do you list each position separately?
Hi! Yes, list each position separately under the same company name on your resume. This way, you can showcase your career progression and highlight the skills and achievements associated with each role. It demonstrates growth, adaptability, and a continued value to the company. Best wishes
I’m so glad I came across your videos & I’m now a subscriber, but I wanted to share something with you. In NJ it isn’t required to list dates of employment or education in your application as that falls into the “age stereotyping” and can be used against the candidate. I know that seems counterproductive since you’d think a company WANTS a person with experience. What’s your opinion on this? Thank you 🤗
HI - I have been told not to have a summary in my resume and to focus on skills at the top of my resume. Due me having experience for 10 plus years. Would like to know your thoughts on
Hi there! Great question. I'm still a big proponent of a resume summary. You can download a free template right here to help you get started: professorheatheraustin.lpages.co/resume-pack/
This was the best resume 101 course! I thought I had an impressive resume; I did download resume and template. What I also need is a cover letter template. Not sure if you have a video, I'm sure I will find it. I'm 45 so the competition is scary. I've been looking for another better paying job since October. I have small business as well. Should I list that on my resume? any thoughts would be appreciated.
Hi! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Here's a cover letter video: ruclips.net/video/Sg-n4hMvd7I/видео.html. You might also consider The Career Advancement Toolkit. There's hundreds of templates in there for every part of your job search. Here's a link to grab that: heatheraustin.online/toolkit/
How did you go with this? If the small business would help you get the job then include it, if it is simply something extra that you're doing that isn't related to the job you're going for don't include it. You don't need to include everything, it's better to highlight what is relevant and have an effective resume instead of a complete resume.
Yes! Absolutely. You can download the template here: heatheraustin.online/resume. If it's not being delivered to your inbox, email me and my team at heather@professoraustin.com and we'll send it to your inbox directly.
Hello Professor Heather Austin, I hope you are doing well 😊. I am applying for a job & I wanted to know how you felt about thank you letters after an interview? If you have not done so already, would you be able to make a short video covering that aspect of it? Thank you.
Definitely you can do this. It may not be conventional but if you break convention you'd probably stand out some. I've sent out thank you letters to the person interviewing me a day later, and it always goes down a treat. this works extra hard for you if you've already had a killer interview and there's still some candidates left to interview. do it.
This is such a great and well explained video but the issue is, this doesnt feel like it fits people who have simply been a "cashier" or a "customer serivice agent".. this feels like its meant for people in sales, insurance, manager positions and im struggling to put any achievements when those are never given to hard workers. I got ONE team player certificate but its not a real certificate, just a award i got during training. i need help
I'll play devils advocate and say it isn't. Personally I am very good at landing jobs. AND i hate linkedin and refuse to use it. I see it as one additional thing I have to do on top of everything else, so I don't use it. Recruiters understand this. That being said, my experience speaks for itself and so do my skills, I have a killer cover letter technique and the people that hire me don't care about linked in. So i guess to quote a wise man that said this first 'ya gotta be good, ya just gotta'.
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin I have around 2 years of experience in retail but I want to start applying for jobs related to the psychology field because that’s what I got my bachelors in.
So I've been trying to get better employment, and Ive been leaving all my work experience on my resume for each position I apply to, changing descriptions arpund to for the position I'm going for. Should I keep doing this or just leave irrelevant jobs off?
Great question. Our free resume template is the perfect starting point for most positions. If you need more guidance and assistance in the job search, I highly recommend grabbing The Career Advancement Toolkit.
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. How can I “generalize” my LinkedIn profile? For example, I would like to get a job as an assistant project manager in the information technology industry, but I would be willing to take an information technology analyst role. How should someone in that predicament tailor their LinkedIn profile? Thank you
I'm glad you found the video helpful! To generalize your LinkedIn profile for both an assistant project manager and an IT analyst role, focus on skills and experiences that are relevant to both positions. Highlight your project management skills, technical knowledge, and any IT-related accomplishments. Use a headline that encompasses both roles, like "IT Professional with Project Management Expertise." In your summary, talk about your passion for IT and your adaptability to different roles within the industry. Also, engage with content and join groups related to both fields to show your diverse interest. Tailoring your profile this way shows your versatility and readiness for various opportunities in the IT sector. Good luck!
Hi! No worries. Make sure you entered the correct email address, then check your inbox. If you're still not getting it, email me and my team at heather@professoraustin.com and we'll send it directly to you.
not if you're 40 years old and no one cares about your education because heaps of other stuff you've done is more relevant. If you're 24 and just finished college, you can put in your highschool education, if you think it helps you. If it's just a formality for you then I'd say no. I usually don't include anything in my resume that isn't on purpose. you don't have to include everytihng.
What if you are a highschool student and haven’t had an actual job and want to but you’re asked for a resume, how can I be eligible for that job I want?
Put a resume together. Does the job you want have a job ad? if so try to 'answer' the job ad with your resume. so if the job asks for someone to be - organised, have experience in microsoft excel, and have a great phone manner, then you can add these skills to your technical skills section, and also have an entry in your relevant experience section that highlights where you got the experience. Doesn't have to be a job, could be a subject at school, an assignment. Think of it this way, as a person looking to hire another person, I don't care where they got their experience from, i just want to know that you can do this task and then i might be curious as to where you got that experience from. (most of the times) Lastly, put a resume together, you have to understand that the resume is the first part of getting the job and will usually be the thing that the person hiring will use to organise the hiring process so basically what I'm saying is even if you're resume is small and doesn't have a lot of experience in it put the resume together as it is your foot in the door.
Hi! So sorry about that. The template and example should go straight to your inbox. If not, please email me and my team at heather@professoraustin.com and we'll send the resume right to you. Thanks.
Same happened to me when I tried to download it. Was stuck on a screen saying it was 80% complete and being processed for my inbox with a huge add for the toolkit counting down for 30minutes just an FYI to anyone wanting the template

Making resumes is such a bullshit process, it requires, psychology skills, sales skills, organization, basics of algorithm and grammar, that's why I rather pay 15 bucks to someone to do my resume it only takes them 30 mins to do it and it looks 10 times better than how I do it.

Is Linkdin really that important? What purpose does it serve?
Yes, LinkedIn can be quite important. It serves as a professional networking platform, helps you connect with colleagues, employers, and potential clients, and is a valuable tool for job searching and recruiting. It also allows you to showcase your skills, experience, and receive endorsements, making it a dynamic online resume and personal branding tool.
Heather new to you and prior to investing in your program. reviewing your information to make the best decision.. so great info so far.. thank you in advance..
i love you alot your tuition is clear
Thank you!
Just tried your method, wish me luck 😃
I've been using his résumé template for over a month now and have gotten nothing but denials
PERFECT RESUME.
I got your resume example & template. Thanks Professor Austin.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and sharing. Hope you're doing well.
Hi professor Austin! Your videos have helped me soooo much over the years including getting out of a rut after graduating and not getting any interviews/calls for 8 months in 2019
Yes you should. I hope you cam out of that rut.
Very good Professor Austin.
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much, this was really helpful
What do you think about creating and leaving a resume on your Facebook for people to see in case someone may be interested in you for something...❓️❓️❓️ Also, do you perhaps think it's a good idea to make a resume for seeking romantic relationships/friendships...❓️❓️❓️
Nice video. Thanks!
This was so helpful ❤
Thanks for this update, but still need to learn more about this. How can you be of help?
There are some jobs I've held where the tasks and results aren't quantifiable. How would I work around this?
I need to do a resume but haven't had to do one for 20 years so how far back do you go with experience. Is high school education relevant when I have 2 diplomas from college?
Talk to a Professional abt it I have one if you don't mind
Best wishes
I hope you will show us some good examples of resumes all the time.
Thank you 🤗
Really a nice video. Thank you. 👏🏻
Professor thanks for sharing
Great video, is this resume template still available for download?
Yes!
I got ONE team player certificate but its not a real certificate, just a award i got during training. i need help
Certification section esp when on career break and continuing Ed in process.
As an unskilled worker, it is must to have a LinkedIn profile?
Yes! LinkedIn is a must if you're a job seeker.
Hi Professor Austin! If I graduated last April 2022, should I put work experience before education?
Most likely! It depends on how much work experience you have. How many years do you have under your belt?
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin I have around 2 years of experience in retail but I want to start applying for jobs related to the psychology field because that’s what I got my bachelors in.
@@savispice23 Currently in the same boat as you
Great info! Subscribed 🎉
Thanks for the sub!
Do we still want to try to keep a resume to one page long?
It depends. How many years of experience do you have?
So I've been trying to get better employment, and Ive been leaving all my work experience on my resume for each position I apply to, changing descriptions arpund to for the position I'm going for. Should I keep doing this or just leave irrelevant jobs off?
Thank you so much for this..By the way, you like Tina Fay
Lol! You're welcome. A lot of people tell me that.
is a simple resume good enough for most positions
Great question. Our free resume template is the perfect starting point for most positions. If you need more guidance and assistance in the job search, I highly recommend grabbing The Career Advancement Toolkit.
@@ProfessorHeatherAustin thanks so much
Thank you for this video.
Good luck!
Thank you so much for your reply. This is a great suggestion. I appreciate it.
How are you, professor Healther Austin
Hi! Great question. I completed graduate school awhile back. What do you do?

Got it, Professor Heather! Thank You!
What if I’m just looking for a part time job?
How do I get the resume template for free?
Should high school education be listed along with college education?
Did you need help on the resume writing
not if you're 40 years old and no one cares about your education because heaps of other stuff you've done is more relevant. If you're 24 and just finished college, you can put in your highschool education, if you think it helps you. If it's just a formality for you then I'd say no. I usually don't include anything in my resume that isn't on purpose. you don't have to include everytihng.
What about writing a general resume that is put on online job boards?
Hi George! It's great to hear from you again. What is the title of the position your applying for.
a customized resume works better. I have a few different variations of my resume on file. The general resume is the one I use to build off of.
How do I list gig work?
I think the video would be better if your camera shows more on the documents, not on your face.
Totally agree! I’ll be publishing lots more videos with way more examples. Great suggestions. 🥰
(most of the times)
Lastly, put a resume together, you have to understand that the resume is the first part of getting the job and will usually be the thing that the person hiring will use to organise the hiring process so basically what I'm saying is even if you're resume is small and doesn't have a lot of experience in it put the resume together as it is your foot in the door.

the resume is not free then it wants you to buy a tool kit
Your added resume is two pages long 😐
Making resumes is such a bullshit process, it requires, psychology skills, sales skills, organization, basics of algorithm and grammar, that's why I rather pay 15 bucks to someone to do my resume it only takes them 30 mins to do it and it looks 10 times better than how I do it.
FACTS!!!!!
It’s not a bullshit process you’re just lazy or it’s not your passion to sell yourself
