I think this is a great trade. I been out of work for 10 weeks . I have another company covering my service call while I recover. The owner of the other company stoped by my house . And gave me $1000.00 in cash and said I know you can use the money while your out. I sent them 15 service calls and 4 duct less installs . He didn’t have to do that . But he did .
I spent 44 years in a service truck before I retired. I used to set a 5 minute timer on my phone because 5 minutes seems like a lifetime. I quit using Honeywell thermostats when the contracted the manufacture of all the residential thermostats out. The quality when down in a hurry. Love your videos. You do good honest work.
Uncle Ted - you are the definition of pure soul. Not many out there like you. But they exist. Lots of changeout pros, not so many let's get down to business and fix the real issue pros.
I used to work as a coffee/espresso machine service company. All of us would help each other in a pinch. Good and friendly competition working together.
An over 55 community with 155 homes has T6 thermostats in all of them. Lennox too. After the 2nd year, thermostats are failing about 6 a week. A Junior tech handles those warranty calls. Im guessing all 155 will be replaced by the 5 year.
Just helping a colleague out seems fair game...A bad part with a temp fix for it saved the day which allows for the original HVAC folks to meet with their customer and make it right. We the public just have to wonder sometimes about "new parts" these days. The old Honeywell bi-metal round thermostats rarely failed and kept on working for decades ! Some of today's junk is totally ridiculous.
There are many opinions and criticisms but no suggestions, perhaps because they all stink. Kudos to you for making one, at least. Their app gets terrible reviews, so I'm unsure if the T721i would be a good choice. I like the look of the display on the T855SH; it's nice and big, as you pointed out. I like their pitch of having US support reps. Their warranty is no good if you DYI, so hopefully, my upcoming Trane furnace installer can get them. Thanks for your suggestion.
Dude jush pushes contactor with a finger....ahahahah nice...my kinda guy. Last 2 weeks here in central florida I swapped 10+ honneywell thermostats, it's like they all gave up at once. This is large apartment complex, old ac units, all identical honneywell thermostats. ALL going bad all at once. It's gotten so bad I head to thermostat 2nd...after checking float valve, before I even go outside. If it's a honneywell...good bet it's the problem.
Bought a new house last year and the first day in it I pulled the T6 thermostat off the Lennox heat pump and replaced it with a Honeywell Touch Screen "smart" thermostat. I figured if they're being used as "builder's grade" they're like anything else builder's grade, one step above junk. I've saved it in case the smart thermostat goes south, but I prefer this Honeywell one over Nest and EcoBee.
I always wondered if going to the electric chair does 5 minutes seem very long! The older I get the less patience I have for time delays Always good to help out, You never know when You might need a favor.
I avoid those cheap stats too, I’ve seen too many of them causing service calls. I complement you for reconnecting the two pressure switches. I would not be happy if I discovered some tech cut the pressure switches out especially on a nearly new system. I’m afraid that company would immediately be called back to restore what they did, and I promise you they would never be back after that. I know it’s getting common in new equipment, but all I can say is, two ECMs in that York system means cha-ching cha-ching in a couple years, I’ll put $ on it.
To the 100s to thousand of t4 t6 I've came across maybe 5 have been bad and most of them during the virus. I like their diagnosis feature makes life easy
5 minute delays seem like 20 minutes every time. We use the T4 pro thermostats and end up having problems with them as well. What brand do you use? Our work is mostly in Lyman and Greer area…love your videos!
Thank you Ted for all the good you do with honest service. I bought a Trane XR furnace/AC with the $$ Trane smart thermostat. Have never connected it to wifi and won't! What do you recommend I replace the thermostat with? Something quality that will work simply and efficiently! I'm also Ted, in Louisville, Ky. Thank you!
Honeywell T6 Wi-Fi stats are definitely junk. Have replaced almost every one we’ve installed. Trane 624/724 are also junk. What do you like to use for a basic user friendly thermostat?
Since York has done a lot of updates about 7 or 8 years ago, they have in my opinion been better than Goodman. I would chose York over Goodman if I had a choice.. now if Honeywell would just make better Thermostats.
I didn't quite follow the "temporary" solution. Was another thermostat put on or did you bypass it? Was the replacement thermostat a different grade model that wouldn't be left in?
Is it a particular T6 you have trouble with? I have read about issues with the wifi version. Mine came with a T6 Pro non-wifi 1c 2h and after 5 years no problems, brother got same unit, same T6 six years ago, no problems.
I thought it was just the lyric t6s that were trash. I guess not. And oddly enough the t4 is reliable as all mighty hell, ive installed many and seen very few fail.
I’ve got a Honeywell T6 thermostat that was installed less than a year ago with a new Trane heat pump. Do you recommend I change it out for something different? We don’t use the programmable functions, it is either cooling to 71 in the summer or heating to 67 in the winter. We have had no trouble with it thus far.
Change it to a Honeywell Th8321wifi. . Multi stage heat pump stat. Get the Honeywell Total Home Connect app and control from your phone. They last. Do not get an Echobee or Nest. They are junk. The T 6 will fail on the coldest day or hottest day. Dump it.
RTFS. Does the schematic show no run cap for the fan. With all those wires hanging out down all disconnected, looks like a diy job. Sure doesn’t seem right. Are pressures ok, bet head is sky high!
You are definitely an old school stand up guy!!
Gotta love the new school sit down ones

Perfectly handled IMO. You're a class act, Ted!
I appreciate that!
"13 months old". You know someone is keeping tabs. Most people would say 'about a year old'.
Too bad these young tradesmen don’t have that kinda servitude and understanding of how business is done. You’re a good man.
Where I work, T6 thermostats are truck stock. I still have the same T6 on my truck that was on it when I got the truck.
The two pins above the red light. Short them out. It will bypass the 5min delay and start the system.

Those system delays, paired with zone system delays can really test your patience during troubleshooting 🙃

Current thermostat of choice, Pro 1. Honeywell requires magnafying glass and flashlight to read!

Longest 5 minutes of the day. Have to love the simple no cools though

been using the Honeywell Home RTH9585WF Wi-Fi Smart Color Thermostat since they came out. flawless so far. many years of use
Anything is better than the nest.
Nice video Ted, your a good man in helping out, well done 👍 Au
“ok we got a no cooling call here”
Nice job Mr. Cook! Keep up the good work.
i’ll agree we are always having problems with them stats as well
I always wondered if going to the electric chair does 5 minutes seem very long! The older I get the less patience I have for time delays Always good to help out, You never know when You might need a favor.
The "HONEYWELL TSUX" is a very OK thermostat in most non essential situations.
Ted it’s a pile of YORK 😂
Great video Ted! Keep up the great work and videos

UNCLE TED!, GOOD JOB!!!! 💪💪💪
It's been hot this week! Wasn't bad Sunday morning.
You always make us proud Ted ...Thx ...
For me as a customer, if it's the thermostat, that's good news, even if the old one is junk.
Another job well done By the Brilliant Ted cook incorporated
I love my T6. Don’t put batteries in them though if you have a C wire connected. Saw the one in the video had C wire. Mine didn’t like that either.
Excellent fix ted 👍
To the 100s to thousand of t4 t6 I've came across maybe 5 have been bad and most of them during the virus. I like their diagnosis feature makes life easy
Sometimes you have to help out a competitor, you just don't know when you will need a favor. But some you just say no to.
A watched condenser unit never starts. 😛
A Honeywell, same “reliability” as a Pest, I mean nest.
I haven’t even watched the video yet but yes, yes they are.
5 minute delays seem like 20 minutes every time. We use the T4 pro thermostats and end up having problems with them as well. What brand do you use? Our work is mostly in Lyman and Greer area…love your videos!
Stop by and say hello sometime !!
A lot of problem with the delays on them stats and the base not transferring the voltage properly😮😅❤🥵👍😎✅
Ah hell!, Its a piece of York
Great job!!!
That fan motor looks like it was pulled from a mini-split.
installed over 30 of those t6 stats on a job about 8 months ago, wish I knew they were junk then.. not that my boss would have switched stats lol
looks like that cable line is still waiting on a burial ticket that will never get fulfilled by ATT or Spectrum
Thank you!
Meant to say I'm not a DIY and will have it replaced by a professional!
Plausible, but I found out that it is usually happens when the thermostats get dropped or get yanked from the wall multiple times while power is on .
I like the regular old pro3000
Didn’t Rheem water heaters have a bad batch of Honeywell thermostats? Somebody is cutting corners at Honeywell.
I stop using T series thermostat, I think about 40% of them fail. And it always nice to help other companies out there is enough work to go around.
Man the york / lux aire pressure switches and ambient temp sensors fail for no reason all the time!
I bought a Honeywell thermostat with the display and the WiFi feature broke after a year. Never buy another Honeywell crap product
Do you see those two bolts underneath the compartment? They are holding the brain to that motor.
Is that a heat pump York? If it is that t6 has a recall I bet. There was a run of t6 thermostats that needed a recall for heat pump operation
What kind of yuk-yuk bothers a/c techs do you have in your area that bypasses control wires & safety switches???
Agreed!
Ted, If you've got your phone. Set the timer 4 5mins.
New York, New York. 🎼🤭
Should be able to jump out the test pins to speed up asd
Well done
Honeywell T6 Wi-Fi stats are definitely junk. Have replaced almost every one we’ve installed. Trane 624/724 are also junk. What do you like to use for a basic user friendly thermostat?
Ted you are definitely an asset to the trades! By the way how’s the racing coming along ?
Since York has done a lot of updates about 7 or 8 years ago, they have in my opinion been better than Goodman. I would chose York over Goodman if I had a choice.. now if Honeywell would just make better Thermostats.
I didn't quite follow the "temporary" solution. Was another thermostat put on or did you bypass it? Was the replacement thermostat a different grade model that wouldn't be left in?
Used 5000 for a temporary solution.
Who will cut or by pass safety switches on brand new unit? Did you find out?Technicaly by doing this you voided the company warranty.
It’s a Yark!
Use a t6 for target practice. Video
Honeywell is now resideo
Old pro5000 best thermostat of all time
Those "colleagues" of yours certainly aren't helping keep a good rep in the industry
Is it a particular T6 you have trouble with? I have read about issues with the wifi version. Mine came with a T6 Pro non-wifi 1c 2h and after 5 years no problems, brother got same unit, same T6 six years ago, no problems.
I don’t know why so many of those models seem to have issues.
These new digital thermostats are junk. Good fix Ted
Another great video! Which thermostat brand do you recommend?
Pro 1
Do you have any experience with Bosch Heat pumps? If so, what are your thoughts on them?
I thought it was just the lyric t6s that were trash. I guess not. And oddly enough the t4 is reliable as all mighty hell, ive installed many and seen very few fail.
Temporary 🤔 did he leave it jumped out
Would you recommend the Emerson Sensi Thermostat?
I’ve got a Honeywell T6 thermostat that was installed less than a year ago with a new Trane heat pump. Do you recommend I change it out for something different? We don’t use the programmable functions, it is either cooling to 71 in the summer or heating to 67 in the winter. We have had no trouble with it thus far.
If it ain't broken don't fix it.
Change it to a Honeywell Th8321wifi. . Multi stage heat pump stat. Get the Honeywell Total Home Connect app and control from your phone. They last. Do not get an Echobee or Nest. They are junk. The T 6 will fail on the coldest day or hottest day. Dump it.
Hmmm, you didn't channel Steve Lav and identify it as a pile of York!
I have no opinion on York products but I gotta say it, it's a pile of York. 😅
i have that thermostat and its terrible
So what thermostat to use?
Great video. What thermostats do you use Ted ( except Trane I mean)?
Yorks, you like'm?
Short out the test pin's?
What was that you did with a jumper when you first got to the outdoor unit?
He bypassed the thermostat and made the unit react to it as if the tstat had been calling for cool.
RTFS. Does the schematic show no run cap for the fan. With all those wires hanging out down all disconnected, looks like a diy job. Sure doesn’t seem right. Are pressures ok, bet head is sky high!
Yep I said that years ago T6 are junk
#WiggleYourJimmy 😎👍
And NEST thermostats are junk
I never disparage my co-workers nor other companies. Don’t burn bridges
You should have finished the job correctly since you volunteered to do it!!!!!
Agreed!
