The perfect example of a band that radio dropped the ball on. This album was full of great songs and multiple radio hits. One of the many bands that deserved more.
One of the best bands from the 90's. They deserved a great music career and never got it. I still rock out to this CD in my truck from time to time. Majorly underrated group.
These guys toured with Matchbox 20 in 1997. They came through Waterloo Iowa, and did a meet and greet breakfast promo for Rock 108. I'll never forget the fact that I went there to see if I could meet the bands outside and they invited me in and had me sit with them. The station director came up and asked me who I was, and I said "No one" the band guys just laughed and Michael Cross walked away slightly frustrated.
God, this song, its everything about my life and everyone I know. Just the pain, mental anguish, withdrawn into ones self, betrayal, everything. I cant help but damn near cry every time I hear this song.
too bad they didnt make it big. they where just way too talented. one of my favorite albums of all time. beatles rubber soul is my number one.but they are in my top ten
But I believe the band also dropped the ball. They disbanded just as they were putting the finishing touches on a new album in 2002. Apparently personal differences got in the way and they forgot to keep their eyes on the prize. They forgot the message in one of their most important songs ... TOGETHER WE WIN!!!
This takes me back. Social media need to give these guys a second life. We totally needed more of these guys. A classic case of suits dropping the ball.
I was just listening to the counting crows cd August and everything after and this band jumped into my head . Havent listened to them in 5 years. I forgot all about them. I went straight to the dusty cd shelf and found the cd . Now its blasting in my truck everyday going to work! Love these guys!
they are like the screamimg trees.......they just couldnt get that commercial push....the Nixons, Ammonia, The Refreshments, The Replicants, and Fountains of Wayne were awesome too!
It would be a miracle if the band ever decided to post the video "Walk Away" ... It shouldn't be so difficult to find. Really, guys. You have people who want to listen to your music.
I saw them 2 times at the Hard Rock in Miami. Once opening for Match Box 20 before either one of them had hit it big and once as the headliner. Both shows where great. Awesome music, awesome energy.
Saw these guys open for Matchbox 20 back in the late nineties and often wondered what became of them.Another casualty of that epoch......Tonic,Better than Ezra,Semisonic,K's Choice, the Verve Pipe,Summercamp,Ben Folds Five and a slew of others that came and went with a whisper.
I listen to this band a lot and can't wrap my head around why they were not more successful in my opinion, one of the better bands of that error. A very unique sounding band that had all the ingredients to make several more successful albums in my opinion.
Such a random purchase in '05 ~ I liked the CD cover. And yes, like most everyone who has posted something about CFA ~ it was and still is one of my all time favorites. To think we almost missed this one . . . .
One of my favorites from the 90's! Had some major nostalgia the other day listening to some 90's songs and I was wracking my brain trying to think of this song. I knew I loved it but couldn't think of the band name. So I climbed up in my attic and searched through my cd's and low and behold....Cool For August!!!! Awesome song. Love the intro!! First time seeing the music video!
I was fortunate enough to see these guys while they were on tour with Matchbox 20 back in the day. This music is still my favorite. Wish they would have gotten more exposure because they were awesome.
I have this album and really loved it. I got to interview them when they came to Australia in the late 90s to do some preview shows. I was so sure that they would just explode internationally. I don't think they ever ended up coming back and didn't go anywhere. I was so disappointed. This song is my favourite of theirs and a favourite generally. I still crank it all the time.
This was such a good album. I feel sorry for the people who haven't experienced it. They should have been much bigger. I am glad I had a radio station that actually played them. KOZE, Lewiston, Id. I would try other stations and always get "Who?". Bummer
I saw these guys back in 1995 live at the Macon, GA. cherry clossom festival. they played just like their CD. Days of the New, came on right after them. 2 great bands that soon broke up after their 1st signed to a label CD. Bought both bands CD's at the cherry clossom festival conert.
One of things stuck in my head as a 90s teen, a brief interview with these guys where the singer says something like "we play with irony, obvious the name Cool For August is ironic." I can see it in my head right now and I couldn't tell you what the hell I had for lunch today haha...
These guys are (were) f'ing great! It's a shame they were so ahead of their time!!! This entire album is fantastic and I listen to it at least once a week in it's entirety!
loveLoVeLOVE this song & video!!!! Where is all the CFA music hiding? Not on RUclips! I wish someone would upload more CFA music....their songs are in short supply here! :o)
@pstwinkie If you hear anything let me know, cause I would go pay for a ticket to see them play in a heartbeat if they are in GA. By the way some of the former band members are in the Atlanta GA. area I think.
i remember hearing this song played over the loud speaker on the football field on senior day in 1997....since then i had completely forgotten who the band was but every now and then i still thought of the song. glad i found it.
I used to play these guys on the cds for jukeboxes called Hot Hits.....and I remember the first time I heard Trials and I instantly liked these guys.....I tried to play the songs they released and for some reason I could not get my friends to follow suit on the jukebox
I only heard this 1 song by Cool For August back in the day sadly. Damn this was such a massive song for me though. I loved it then & still do. Takes me right back to 97, possibly my fave yr re music finds. I can still picture my mixed tape cover where I'd written Don't Wanna Be Here. Brilliant song! 🎶💖
Something's wrong, my mind is gone It won't be long before I lose it maybe I will crawl into my soul to Find a way to escape this Sorry world Don't take offense by my Cold-hearted nature I can't escape the dreams of my head And where is the voice of yesterday's cries Take me away from all your lies Yet I don't wanna be here For the rest of my life I don't wanna be here Something's wrong...I don't belong here Staring at the people, they talk about me Whispering words to spite my passion I'll move on maybe I'll live in chance Now it don't make sense why you're Just like the rest It's easy to see I am the one you attest Oh this awful life has a changing hours of you pass before my eyes Yet I don't wanna be here For the rest of my life I don't wanna be here Downtown is where her future there All of my respect for you though it washed away Now that you've come back to me You give me yourself That's all that I need Yet I don't wanna be here For the rest of my life I don't wanna be here
I love this album and this song but never could exactly figure out the words at the start. Based off another video of them in concert, it sounds like it starts off with " Something's wrong my, mine is coming. Won't be long before I lose or make it" I could be wrong.
Like others here, I thought these guys would really get big. I saw them in 98 or 99 opening for Matchbox 20 in Charlotte. I thought they blew Matchbox 20 out of the water. I hung out and talked to them while Matchbox 20 played. The lead singer asked why I was outside of the arena area. They were a little pissed when I told them that Matchbox 20 sucked. So were a few fans. But they all signed my cd cover and I still have it. But the cd is too worn out to play anymore
In the end of the last song of this album (grand world) is a empty section and then a very cool song anybody know the name or where I can get the song??? my car was stolen and this album was there so these bastards got everything
@cherokee apache irish...you are correct, Gordon, Andrew, and chris are here in georgia. Andrew is in and band called PAPERSTREET with myself. Gordon, Andrew and I tried to get CFA back up a couple of years ago, just didnt work out. You can find some PAPERSTREET videos on my channel, and at paperstreet rocks dot com We will have more stuff coming soon....
The perfect example of a band that radio dropped the ball on. This album was full of great songs and multiple radio hits. One of the many bands that deserved more.
Pandora Radio plays them often on my channels, I had never heard of Cool for August before.
Absolutely right! Seen these guys open for matchbox 20 on matchbox's debut, they rocked!
I agree...it's not common for a band to put out an album where all the songs are great....this band accomplished that.
SonicVision
Au contraire
My local so. Fla alt radio loved these guys.
So did MTV (120 mins)
Something else derailed em I fear.
Gordon has a new band called REWIND I'm his promoter Cindy. Video on the way!!
One of the best bands from the 90's. They deserved a great music career and never got it. I still rock out to this CD in my truck from time to time. Majorly underrated group.

@@ladylakemusic5958was there ever a video?
This is one of those songs that make me wonder, “Why the hell wasn’t this a big hit?”. It deserved way more love than it got.
Great song. Never played enough. Very underrated.

44K views? Should be 44 million. Radio totally dropped the ball here.

This was an awesome album - lost in time. How many great albums almost pass us by?
This takes me back. Social media need to give these guys a second life. We totally needed more of these guys. A classic case of suits dropping the ball.
Holy crap....haven't said (or even thought) the words 'Cool For August' in 20 some years...but damn this song slaps!!!
I was just listening to the counting crows cd August and everything after and this band jumped into my head . Havent listened to them in 5 years. I forgot all about them. I went straight to the dusty cd shelf and found the cd . Now its blasting in my truck everyday going to work! Love these guys!

I have listened to this album over and over for years. I really wish they had made more music. Gordon's voice is so unique.
kimberlee533 Gordon has a new band called REWIND I'm his promoter Cindy. Video on the way!!
Right there with you. I've had a dozen copies of it on CD. God, this great music got so missed. But it did define the times.
I listen to this band a lot and can't wrap my head around why they were not more successful in my opinion, one of the better bands of that error. A very unique sounding band that had all the ingredients to make several more successful albums in my opinion.
It's cause they sucked.
TheShortMan cool story bro
That's Andrew Shives on bass, ex fear factory. Always wondered where he went.
If you can still buy this album.. GET IT!!
Such a random purchase in '05 ~ I liked the CD cover. And yes, like most everyone who has posted something about CFA ~ it was and still is one of my all time favorites. To think we almost missed this one . . . .

This is not only cool for August but it's cool for the rest of the year!! I'd love to sign these guys!!

I still have the CD , I still enjoy it! Too bad they broke up so soon.
If only they released on vinyl. Its a pipe dream but oh how awesome that would be...
Awesome, this band is amazing!
Still cranking the dial up on these guys! Thats until the kids gotta go to sleep...
These guys are (were) f'ing great! It's a shame they were so ahead of their time!!!

Wow, Andrew Shieves of Fear Factory. Nice. :)
loveLoVeLOVE this song & video!!!! Where is all the CFA music hiding? Not on RUclips! I wish someone would upload more CFA music....their songs are in short supply here! :o)
Saw them open for Matchbox 20 back in the day. Had always dug this tune. I'm now in my mid-60's and still dig this tune.
Got the cd single and proud of the fact. ❤
Still miss you every day dad

Cool Song, like it. 🙃👍

If Live, Fuel, and Matchbox 20 had a lovechild ....
A lot better than any music coming out now!
David Oliver yes, I totally agree with you. This is the very first time that I have heard this band and I love them
They also made a video for "Walk Away" that has apparently been lost to history...
i remember hearing this song played over the loud speaker on the football field on senior day in 1997....since then i had completely forgotten who the band was but every now and then i still thought of the song. glad i found it.

I have the cd that has just this track and always listen to it. I do love the song :D the first song I've ever play with my guitar :)
I was 13 :D
Something's wrong, my mind is gone
It won't be long before I lose it maybe
I will crawl into my soul to
Find a way to escape this
Sorry world
Don't take offense by my
Cold-hearted nature
I can't escape the dreams of my head
And where is the voice of yesterday's cries
Take me away from all your lies
Yet I don't wanna be here
For the rest of my life
I don't wanna be here
Something's wrong...I don't belong here
Staring at the people, they talk about
me
Whispering words to spite my passion
I'll move on maybe I'll live in chance
Now it don't make sense why you're
Just like the rest
It's easy to see I am the one you attest
Oh this awful life has a changing hours
of you pass before my eyes
Yet I don't wanna be here
For the rest of my life
I don't wanna be here
Downtown is where her future there
All of my respect for you though it washed away
Now that you've come back to me
You give me yourself
That's all that I need
Yet I don't wanna be here
For the rest of my life
I don't wanna be here
You know I'll be here
You know I'll be here
Absolutely!!
I Heard This song 1997... Good Rock
That riff
I'd like to relive the 90's
underrated. Like...totally. Hate today's music industry too.
LOVE THIS!
Saw them open for Matchbox 20 back in the mid-90's. Went out and bought the disc that coming week.
One of the mid-90's one hit wonders. Too bad. I've got dozens and dozens of Disc's that fell into the same category.
Look up Trials and Walk Away....they were both top 20 songs from this same album.
I absolutely love their album. They aren't one hit wonders.
@Demos and More This person is wrong. The whole album is great.
miss those days
@HeavyMetalMerchant1
Really? Man that is awesome... Thanks for saying that, it puts things into better perspective...
great song!!!!
Love this song
I love this album and this song but never could exactly figure out the words at the start. Based off another video of them in concert, it sounds like it starts off with " Something's wrong my, mine is coming. Won't be long before I lose or make it" I could be wrong.
love it then and now cant get an mp3 of though

Wow...if this song didn't just say it all...back in the day prior to leaving that shit relationship.....FINALLY OVER! Love these boys tho...!
@Elginet - Agreed, awesome under-rated album. Shame.
was this one of those mormon bands from 97?
I've got this album if anyone is interested :)
Cool mic'
Wasn't the bassist in this video playing for Fear Factory?
Yep, Andrew Shieves, the first official bass player of FF. :)
Anybody else think the guitarist looks like Art Alexakis?
@lysergicdancing was because the labels were spending more time and money promoting the rap crap, instead of REAL musicans
yo this song fucking slaps hard
milkin sorigin
I thought Andrew had to play in this band
15 people should not have been here.
C😎😎L
Gordon is so hot.
Fuckin rockstars 🤘🤘🤘🤙
