The 80’s and 90’s weee just different. It was the last great time to be alive as a kid. Great TV, music, sports, school was fun (for most people), technology was good enough without cell phones.

My favorite Savage Garden song! Takes me back to where I was in my life in 1998 and it gets me a bit sentimental, aside from just being a great song. When you’re young, you go through times that you want to just get through or move on to somewhere else, but in the future, you sometimes yearn for those days because they’re over and not coming back. 90s music forever!
I'm leaving this comment in early November of 2024 and this was the first time I had heard this song since it was hot during my college days. I'm thankful for this video showing up in my recommendations so I could remember how good this song is.
I was absolutely obsessed with Savage Garden as a kid growing up in the 90s. But hearing and watching Darren Hayes perform live last week in Sydney, that hit the spot!!! He's still got it!!

I am 42 and I could literally overdose on nostalgia. The 90's was the last decade where there was still an innocence to life. They had the best movies, tv, and music. I sometimes sit and just close my eyes and go back to this time on my mind...just immersing myself in all the memories. I cry a lot just yearning for those days that I can never get back. The world is such a 💩show today and I just wish I could be a kid again. Just wanting to relive all those precious times 😢. I thank God for RUclips...one of the only online platforms I really look at. Me and my friend would play this and many others, specially Alphaville, on a cassette deck. We'd hang out in the evenings, sometimes go on long drives, again, playing this and more tracks - discussing art, movies, TV, video games, Unreal - and being silent, listening to and feeling the music, the night lights passing by, the air, the atmosphere! Now we literally live worlds apart, raising our families. When we meet every few years, we can't help but take the memory trip again. Happy indeed for RUclips - not just to be able relive those memories, but also seeing how total strangers from the same era have common experiences! Cheers for sharing!

I pretty much had this song on repeat my sophomore year. Even splurged for the cd instead of recording it from the radio to a cassette. Damn. I feel old 😂
I don't know why but this invokes such strong nostalgia. It somehow makes me feel the 90s and early 2000s in my body. The weird thing about it is that I didn't even listen to it back then.

@@stephencraig5938 Don't think they were that big in the UK? I think they had two chart hits, this one and another song that I can't remember the name of but I remember that I didn't like it. So a little above one hit wonder status. This song was and still is amazing though.
I think that new generations seem to be different in this respect! I work with teenagers and I’ve had the chance to get to know a bit of their perspective. I was talking in general. And it goes without saying that all peopl fall in love. I guess it’s the generation gap.
Love changed like everything else.. you fell in love in the 80s or the 90s it was more.... special.. connected by sight... smell.. interest.. Intrigue... it was special
I love the “space” sound of Savage Garden. They were off the beaten path of music of the era and I think everyone loved this group. Which they would reunite
She’s taking her time making up the reasons To justify all the hurt inside Guess she knows from the smiles And the look in their eyes Everyone’s got a theory about the bitter one They’re saying Mama never loved her much And daddy never keeps in touch That’s why she shies away from human affection But somewhere in a private place She packs her bags for outer space And now she’s waiting for The right kind of pilot to come (and she’ll say to him) She’s saying I would fly you to the moon and back If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby Got a ticket for a world where we belong So, would you be my baby? Ooh-ooh She can’t remember a time When she felt needed If love was red then she was color-blind All her friends they’ve been trialed for treason And crimes that were never defined But she’s saying Love is like a barren place And reaching out for human faith Is like a journey I just don’t have a map for So baby gonna take a dive and push the shift to overdrive Send a signal that she’s hanging all her hopes on the stars (What a pleasant dream) just saying I would fly you to the moon and back If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby Got a ticket for a world where we belong So, would you be my baby? Mama never loved her much And daddy never keeps in touch That’s why she shies away from human affection But somewhere in a private place She packs her bags for outer space And now she’s waiting for The right kind of pilot to come (and she’ll say to him) She’s saying I would fly you to the moon and back If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby Got a ticket for a world where we belong So, would you be my baby? yeah
I can relate to this song today, when I'm hearing it. It turned out to be my life's story. I never understood or heard the lyrics carefully when I listened to this song as a child.
Even though I was born in 1995 and I was still a kid but this period brings good memories and nostalgy over such a great music that isnt produced nowadays lol
Such a good summer when this video premiered I remember staying up all night watching VH1 and MTV..fast forward to summer 2024 I’m still living in NYC and it’s so weird how so much has changed but somewhat stayed the same..Life is so strange and goes by so fast..it’s like Time doesn’t even exist it only exists because we created a way to measure it..
I was such a young and small child when this came out… It played on the radio for a couple of years before it faded into obscurity. So many years have passed, but songs like these are like a precious time capsule taking your back for a couple of minutes.
Charlotte Hemingway don't let your lack of intelligence show so easily. There's plenty of ways you can insult without looking like you inherited your brain cells from a meth addict.
Charlotte Hemingway not particularly. Even if you knew I was going to insult you in response that's not predictability it's more along the lines of cause and effect. You acted like a moron so I treated like you were. It's actually the logical response. You got the response you predicted because you acted like an idiot. Sarcasm or not, you brought it upon yourself. Even if I had responded as you may have expected. it doesn't detract from my original statement or even add to your obvious lack of intellect.
This song spoke to me so much as a kid. Still does. I am this girl. It's so interesting to hear what got me through so many years later. And I tried to hard to love those that never deserved it. I guess I haven't grown up yet
It’s funny how the lyrics mean more and more as I get older. At the time “mother never loved her much” stood out. Still does and all the rest of it makes so much more sense and meaning now too.
I still remember the night drives with my mum after we visited my grandparents and listened to the radio. And you can't imagine how excited I always was when exactly this song was played🤭 Somehow it was always magical to me as a child✨ Damn, I really miss those times...😉
This is the first song i heard with headphones on my older sister's walkman. It was a pretty wild experience, especially with such a rich sounding song! Gives me chills now every time i hear it. The 90's were awesome!
Same!!!!! And I'm 34 now and still have all the lyrics memorized from when my mom had them playing incessantly in the car. When I got older I stole this CD from her 😂😂😂
Hope she is ok. Don’t want to assume the worst. SG does not have use to be fans, they just need to here SG once in a while to remind themselves of the greatness. All love.

Not at all..the 70's were much better ..by far...
The fact that people still comment here makes me proud! This Song is immortal!
What a voice. Truly great song. Unforgettable.
One of the most underrated band back in the 90s! Still love listening to this in 2019!
I beg the differ they were not underrated
To be fair, this is probably their best song. Never fancied their other stuff.
abudianto yes youre right! :-D
They were huge in Europe don't know about the US or UK...🦔
@@stephencraig5938 Don't think they were that big in the UK?
I think they had two chart hits, this one and another song that I can't remember the name of but I remember that I didn't like it. So a little above one hit wonder status.
This song was and still is amazing though.
I met this song today in the radio!
The melody, the harmony, the voice, the sound, everything, I loved it!
It is classic. Grew up with it in the 90s in Australia
Amazing, it's rare to discover good songs on the radio nowdays. Listen to the whole album, you will love it.
@@HanDaimond good idea bro
you are missing a lot
I just remembered it after yeeeeaaarsss
My brain has never left 90's dimension, every time I hear timeless classics from the 90's I am transported back in time/home. 💞👌😊👍
Nothing beats the 90s.
Had a lot of problems with depression in my life but music has always saved me ❤🎉❤
People don’t fall in love any more
That’s why these songs are
Legends. They are the relics of good times with pure youngsters
What do you mean, people don't fall in love anymore? I had unrequited love for a quarter of my life and managing everything on your own is difficult.
I think that new generations seem to be different in this respect! I work with teenagers and I’ve had the chance to get to know a bit of their perspective. I was talking in general. And it goes without saying that all peopl fall in love. I guess it’s the generation gap.
Its depend am 30, I love Rap and Hip Hop, but also i like 80s music, and romántic in general! Bueno español and Eglish.
Ermira Kacupi exactly ❣️❣️❣️
Love changed like everything else.. you fell in love in the 80s or the 90s it was more.... special.. connected by sight... smell.. interest.. Intrigue... it was special
Still one of the most beautiful voices in music. These guys turned everything they performed into pure 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely! ❤

I love the “space” sound of Savage Garden. They were off the beaten path of music of the era and I think everyone loved this group. Which they would reunite
Definitely off the bubble gum circle as their first song was.
Yep
Dont know how that woman stayed completely still while he sang in her ear i would of melted 🫠😍😍 Darren Hayes has a beautiful voice 😊

Anyone sing along word for word? This song is just immense. ✌🏻
Hell yeah!!!
She’s taking her time
making up the reasons
To justify all the hurt inside
Guess she knows from the smiles
And the look in their eyes
Everyone’s got a theory about the bitter one
They’re saying
Mama never loved her much
And daddy never keeps in touch
That’s why she shies away from human affection
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she’s waiting for
The right kind of pilot to come
(and she’ll say to him)
She’s saying
I would fly you to the moon and back
If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby
Got a ticket for a world
where we belong
So, would you be my baby?
Ooh-ooh
She can’t remember a time
When she felt needed
If love was red then she was color-blind
All her friends they’ve been trialed for treason
And crimes that were never defined
But she’s saying
Love is like a barren place
And reaching out for human faith
Is like a journey I just don’t have a map for
So baby gonna take a dive and
push the shift to overdrive
Send a signal that she’s hanging all her hopes on the stars
(What a pleasant dream) just saying
I would fly you to the moon and back
If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby
Got a ticket for a world
where we belong
So, would you be my baby?
Mama never loved her much
And daddy never keeps in touch
That’s why she shies away from human affection
But somewhere in a private place
She packs her bags for outer space
And now she’s waiting for
The right kind of pilot to come
(and she’ll say to him)
She’s saying
I would fly you to the moon and back
If you’ll be, if you’ll be my baby
Got a ticket for a world
where we belong
So, would you be my baby?
yeah

Such an under appreciated band.

Savage Garden must be the most underrated band in the history of music.
close about in any case
Nah
Seventh wonder
Savagely underrated.
They were very popular back in the 90s and early 2000s,
I can relate to this song today, when I'm hearing it. It turned out to be my life's story. I never understood or heard the lyrics carefully when I listened to this song as a child.
Same here
Hahaha right the stuff we don't understand as a kid when you heard this song
My soul has lived through this song...still &...forever...!!
Same....where to go.....
As kids of the 90s we just liked the song.. as adults we UNDERSTAND the song. This song is soo underrated.
I'm glad I lived though the 90s. Great music
SO F*CKIN TRUE
Best ever decade!
Even though I was born in 1995 and I was still a kid but this period brings good memories and nostalgy over such a great music that isnt produced nowadays lol
LOL.
Me too. Most all of the songs are really good for my ears.
I understand you! It happened the same thing with me, in 2015
Then was on the radio, now it faded and now it appears very, very rare
Does nostalgia cause your heart to ache too? Is it most intense on weekend mornings when you've awaken and don't have the much to distract you yet?

Might be one of the greatest songs ever
People are going to look back at this generation and their noise and wish it could be this great.
Nah... sadly, I think they won't appreciate it :(
Regrettably you're right. It's sad how most of the greats are being overshadowed by mediocrity.
Charlotte Hemingway don't let your lack of intelligence show so easily. There's plenty of ways you can insult without looking like you inherited your brain cells from a meth addict.
Luckily, we're still around to appreciate the good stuff lol.
OMG. I still absolutely love this song after 20 years. That amazing voice of Darren Hayes is going me crazy😍😍😍😍 LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ❤️❤️❤️

Exactly how I feel about it.
I Knew I Loved you is another one of my favs.

One of the greatest songs from the 90s
