  • The 75313 LEGO Star Wars UCS AT-AT is set was one of the biggest releases of 2021. It is a huge and impressive build, but what you might not recognize for the first sight - the majority of the build is Technic. In this detailed building review video I show you all the interesting details of the build process, how the mechanisms work and what you should take into consideration before purchasing the set.

    While I appreciate the approach of this kit being a Technic kit, really many larger regular kits could not be built without their Technic skeleton. The UCS Falcon, the Razor Crest, etc., are totally dependent on Technic elements. This approach made for a great review though.

      ALL the big AT-AT sets have been Technic-dependent. It's the only way to economically achieve the volume and articulation.

      The large Slave I model also uses a Technic framework to make it work, especially that angled part of the hull.

    Very nice and compact review. The points you mention are exactly the ones why I much prefer the AT-AT above many other UCS sets. The fact that it’s minifig compatible is a very charming plus, too. A bit like 75060 Slave I, but a lot bigger…;)

    Great review, I love your approach to this set as a Technic set, it's a really cool angle. I am also building mine from current part collection, I had to take a lot of sets apart to be able to get enough parts for it, and I even had to go and buy some extra parts, including those cool new rounded 6x6 gear racks, and a lot of those blue half-pins, I really underestimated this beast!

    First video of yours that I've seen. Nice build and review. I've built a number of UCS sets and yes they all have a lot of technic pieces which makes sense because without them you'd never get the right strength to weight ratio or it would take so many more pieces that it eats into the profits.

    • @RacingBrick
      @RacingBrick  2 года назад +4

      Yep, Technic parts are the best to make a skeleton for large structures, that's why they are used in almost all bigger builds. What makes this one special is their usage to provide working functions.

    I wish they would already make a mechanised Technic version of it. 4 legged walker seems like the one of the easiest walkers to make

    • @urbanchomik
      @urbanchomik 2 года назад +9

      It may seem easy and Lego already produced a motorized AT-AT walker all the way back in 2007... buuut the hardest thing to get right with this walker is its complex walk cycle. In the movies it only moves one leg at a time which creates many stability issues. Lego went the easier way and built a simplified walk mechanism in their older model from 2007 which moves two legs at a time, resulting in a rather wonky, but still very functional walk cycle. But maybe one day they will release a new motorized walker with an improved, more accurate mechanism. ;)

    • @richardjulien1329
      @richardjulien1329 2 года назад +2

      The easiest walker are 6 legs vehicle : you always have 3 legs for stability, while 4 legs means either move one leg after the other, or partly unstable steps in your walking process... Might be easier to motorize with mindstorm, to get " cycle " of walk straight or turning, but still an inferno...

    • @Jessikitty2020

      @@Jessikitty2020 I hope that this is helpful advice, but if you are posing your walker, keep in mind that the knees of the AT-AT work like human knees, so they never bend forwards. ;)

    This was the first UCS Star Wars set I built [I have since built the UCS Star Destroyer and Falcon], and while the Falcon holds the slight edge for me as far as building and displaying goes, the AT-AT was a LOT of fun - and now I know why - it's mostly Technic! I love Technic builds! FWIW, the UCS Falcon had a great mix of greebling [details] and structural building, while the Star Destroyer was structure and then large panel after large panel, and it got boring. The AT-AT has all that, plus way more playability than the Falcon or SD. I hope future UCS Star Wars sets follow this model [pun intended] in having great building experiences with some playability and display options.

    • @michielwerring5846
      @michielwerring5846 2 года назад

      The panels are diagonal, as each upper leg mirrors its diagonal opposite.
      So the front-left and rear-right are identical and vice-versa.
      I suspect it's an ease-of-production thing, or to distinguish them during the assembly phase from the other diagonal.

    Late to the party with this one, but still a really fun/informative review. Great job capturing the building process, and features/easter eggs throughout the set. Could have said a little more about the leg positioning aspect as other than standing straight, the legs even with the technic infrastructure, gearing have difficult holding up the sheer amount of this thing, and can be prone to popping apart. For the cost I'm good with the significantly smaller/cheaper 2019 model. Also Landspeeder also needs a review lol.

    Nagyon örülök neki, hogy végül összeraktad a készletet! Nálam nem is volt kérdés a vásárlás, amikor megláttam, hogy lesz, már tudtam, hogy megveszem. Az elérhetőség éjszakáján a gép előtt ülve vártam az 1 órát. Másnap (aznap) reggelre mentem dolgozni :).
    Sajnos volt egy kis csomagolási malőr, így egy Titanic érkezett, de később ez is megjött és karácsony napján sikerült is befejeznem. A legcsodálatosabb élmény volt, amit eddig összeraktam. Pedig a listán van olyan, mint a lambo, a liebherr markoló, sok autó, lánctalpasok és a Millenium Falcon is. Ami egy dohányzóasztalban van tárolva, a nappaliban. Itt megjegyezném, hogy ebben is van azért technik, lenyitható rámpa, és mellette a burkolatból előjövő fegyver, valamint a váz. Viszont tény, hogy renget a kocka.
    Az AT-AT alsó paneljával nekem nem volt gondom. Az oldalsó panelekkel én is eljátszottam, mire felkerültek a helyükre. A lábak álltak, mikor az alsó részt rátettem. Nem volt egyszerű, de annyira vészes sem. Emelgetni igazán eszembe sem jutott. A leírásban lévő hibákat sajnos én is láttam, illetve a dobozok is fejjel lefelé voltak a nagy dobozban, mint neked. Sajnos más leírásokban is találkozom hibákkal. Itt van mindjárt a Battle Pack. Ahogy te is, úgy én is keveseltem a katonákat bele. Így amikor megláttam, hogy jön egy ilyen szett 4 katonával, siklóval, így nem is volt kérdés, mivel töltöm fel. Eredetileg 9 szettet akartam venni, de végül csak 5 lett és milyen jól tettem. Az ülések mellett nem csak a fegyvertartó hibádzik, hanem a falakhoz nem lehet katonát tenni, mert nem fér el a kezük. Azért +20 katonával is nagyon jól néz ki. És a másik oldalra is került két sikló. Meg beállítottam még 2 ágyút.
    Szóval én nagyon meg vagyok elégedve az élménnyel, amit nyújtott ez a szett.
    Viszont a lego StarWars készletei egyre inkább kezdenek kiábrándítani. Ez az új Luke sikló nekem sem jön be annyira. Főleg, hogy csak két figura van hozzá és nem is az, aminek lennie kellene. Ehhez a "jelenethez" vagy 4 figura kell vagy Luke és Obi. Szerintem. A Millenium Falcon-ból is hiányzik Luke és R2D2. Úgyhogy ide vettem egy Obi Van Hütte-t és betettem mind a 3 figurát a sólyomba. Az új antenna meg az új szereplők mentek a raktérbe. Persze két kis Disney állat Luke szigetéről belekerült. Disney.
    Egyéb StarWars legók is tetszenek, de sajnos ahhoz egy külön lakást kellene fenntartanom. 30 cm alatt nem igazán van, ami engem érdekel :) Pedig nagyon fáj a szívem egy Star Destroyer-re. És egy Halálcsillag sem lenne rossz, ha valamikor kiadnak egy újat.

    I like how the Star Wars and Technic kind grew together.
    Before the SW theme was launched Lego Techic was mainly functional, the pieces were either used structural, mechanical or as a connection, the design was very barebones and generic. These days the Technic sets are more like a SW set, replicating a very particular vehicle with lots of effort and pieces dedicated to making it look right.
    I think we/Lego lost something valuable with that replacements, we could have had both the Lego Models/Replicas/Collection and the more functional Lego Technic.
    I have several Lego SW sets, most aren’t UCS. I wouldn’t classify the majority as Techic, as the technic parts are used mainly structural. The exemption are BD-1 and the X-wing (75301). BD-1 main feature is its Lego Technic Based posability, and for the X-wings is the synchronized open and closing of the wings.
    Come to thing if it Blacktron II also had Technic elements is some of it’s sets.

    I didn't realise there are people who care about technic vs not-technic. It's all just lego to me, where technic meant "it does stuff and is full of gears". If you look at the original big car chassis technic set, that's full of normal stacked bricks.

    There ist a free manual of a stand for the UCS Falcon (it even works with the old one) and then it takes up far less space and even looks cool.

    I love this set it's still for sale here in Asia with a free light sabre though I would prefer the Titanic even though I have a lot of old Star Wars stuff back in Australia.
