@@Unbrickme That's true, but the tow truck has more functions, pneumatics, and a better price-per-piece (although it is expected that the Mercedes would cost more because of all the motors and the very expensive battery box). Both sets also introduce a new feature into LEGO TECHNIC (2nd axle lifting for the tow truck, differential locking for the Zetros) but I think the differential locking is more practical and cool. All things considered, the Zetros is good if you have enough money to buy it (and you like capable trial trucks with cool functions), but the tow truck is a great deal for the price if you're looking for a cheaper option or a set with more functionality.
Truck is huge, with a lot of axles compacted in the frame. Good job from the team who designed it. I built is with my son after he got it for Christmas and it definitely takes a while to build the first time
I agree with RB, this set is a great deal! I also appreciate how there aren't any...let's just say, glaring issues with the set. Also, as another commenter pointed out, I really like how all of your new videos have voiceovers, your old videos had text at the bottom which was not nearly as easy to read and watch, whereas now we can listen and watch the video at the same time!
Epic, thanks for showing it by the anthem Did not expect the pulleys on the back lmao. And I get what you meant by pay attention while building, when building the anthem trailer I wasn’t fully paying attention and once I finished the model had to tear apart one of the cranes to invert a single gear
I love the pneumatic functionality but I couldn't help myself and modify it. It now has 2 large cylinders to raise and lower the boom. I lowered the height of the boom and moved the light bar to the boom structure like the real trucks have. In any case it's an awesome set.
i got the forest machine and loved the pneumatics, then took it apart to play with the parts, i love just watching the pneumatics work and i ahve saved up my money and i want to get this set when it is in stock or from bricklink because i love it
Being a truck driver and more so that I just had my truck towed last week I'm very familiar with these trucks IRL. One thing I can tell you is the top boom is not common on most heavy tow trucks. Semitrucks are towed with the low bar and preferably from the rear. They'll lock the steering with the seatbelt and tow the truck. I have seen a few with that top boom in my time but I have only ever seen that used to upright rolled trucks and trailers or pull vehicles out of ditches. I have never seen a truck being towed by that. Just thought I would give a little clarity on the RW operation of those.
No wonder this is the best set of the wave... it's designed by the legendary Markus Kossmann. Can't wait to mod it with 2 Air Tanks to make it even greater. I prefer a Technic set packed with dozens of functions like this one than to have a high priced mediocre one with a bunch of accessories or a crappy B-Model. This way I know all the energy was put into designing the main model.
At first I thought I wouldn't like the set but after seeing this review and seeing Sariel's review on the Mercedes 42129, I think this is a great set and now can't wait to get it!
I just ordered this set from amazon for $219 or something close to that, the only reason why I bought it was I saw on Lego's website that the truck features a LIFT AXLE! I've been trying to add one to my Technic Unimog U400 (I bought the U400 from Legoland in Florida), so with the instructions from this set, I can add a third liftable axle to my Unimog U400 in the future. Hoorah!!!!!!
I own this set and, I personally think it is great. However, I did have a problem with the engine as it kept on exploding when going too quick. I think it might have been caused by the crankshaft nudging the piston, which were slightly stuck. Please let me know if any of you had this problem.
Did you notice that the quantity listed for each of the hoses is completely incorrect(@ 1:22)? There are a total of 24 listed, but there are only 15 in the bag. I checked the number of hoses in the video as well as in the bag that I am using right now to build this truck.
Nice, thx! To use the rotator properly it looks like you have to use the pump, vent and both hooks at the same time. Classic pneumatic-problems, I like it ;)
I have been looking forward to your review for a long time RacingBrick! Great review and an awesome display of all the functions and looks. A shame that it can't properly tow the Concrete Mixer Truck (which I have), I thought the designers would make it more compatible with other TECHNIC sets. Definitely getting this set though! :D
I only don't like the engine too much since it's a bit too simple (wish it was one like the previous large technick tow truck from Lego) and a box with tools would be nice (although understandable as you pointed out due to space used for knobs, handles and pneumatics. But other than that, awesome set. Lots of functions, good looks and decent price.
The Mac being towed by the wrecker is a foreshadowing as to why my morning my day is going absolutely terribly. Ended up snapping the U bolt on the driveshaft.
this set is awesome. your channel is getting me interested in the technic sets. i want one of these awesome expensive ones 😃 i’ll probably only get one though, because my lego collection already takes up too much room. will have to do some research and figure out which one i’ll get.
Very beautiful set, only two downsides.first it has not automatic pump ,i wonder if it is possible to put one and second i would prefer an old type V6 engine and not those six small bars going up and down.
Picked this up off Amazon. Started building this weekend and did some more early this morning. Losing my mind in that the rear and side outriggers are not in synch. Went back to the start and still no dice. Super irritating but where it will be behind glass not the end of the world.
I was a bit frustrated with the pneumatic system, because I didn't realise that the blue one was a pump So thank you for that haha, I'll definitely subscribe to see more Lego videos
If i ever got this you best believe that id be role playing Hwy Thru Hell scenes Ps hwy thru hell is a towtruck show for those wondering highly recommend to watch
Hehe if the cover pic is based in the US the trick is on the wrong side of the road! I'm about to start section 4 of this build and so far I'm very impressed. This is alot of Lego and functionality and technicality for the price! Awesome set 9/10 👍😊
If all of those manual functions (except steering of course) would be connected to one Gearbox, and all be controlled by one Knob on side or somewhere, this set would be perfect. But its still cool, Definetly would get it
Once I build the tow truck the engine worked fine but after a while, the engine started clunking to the point the engine falls apart. Any ideas for the fix?
It's a 5 module long beam and 2 of these - www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=61184&name=Technic,%20Pin%201/2%20with%202L%20Bar%20Extension%20(Flick%20Missile)&category=%5BTechnic,%20Pin%5D#T=S&O={%22iconly%22:0}
Cool looking set with a bunch of playing functions. In my opinion its a bit short, and the crane is bigger than it supposed to be, but I can fix that later. 😎
how do you manage to get the string on without problems because i have been at it for an hour straight and have not been able to tie it properly and that has ruined the whole experience of the set for me
I just assembled this but there seems to be an issue in the rear pneumatic cylidner that raises the tow bar - it doesn't go up. There is no mistake in the assembly, it just seems to not generate enough force to lift it (and I don't put anything there, just a dry run). I always have to give it a push with my finger then it immediately works as it supposed to. Any solution to this? Otherwise, fantastic set.
With my pneumatic function I have a problem, either only extending the boom works, or adjusting the crane. I can't get both to work. Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong?
I heard there was an easy fix for the rotation of the boom. I couldn't find any information online. Could someone explain what the "fix" he speaks of in the video?
these newer videos where he talks is much better as you get a bit more info than with the text on screen in the past
Agree :)
And that sexy Russian accent. He can call me cyka blyat any day of the week. 😊

It looks better than Zetros, it has more functions, and is twice cheaper. Great set!
but the zetros has differential locking and insane torque

The front mud guard problem could be easily solved with a 2 x 1 brick on each side where the gap is. Shame they didn't think of that solution.
I highly doubt they did not think about it. The real question is why they decided to keep it empty?
I don't collect technic sets and I don't even like to build with technic but I like so much to watch speedbuilds and reviews of them :P

Just last week. I saw 2 of these rigs with booms recovering a semi that went off the side of an off ramp with the booms.
All heavy wreckers in North America have a boom or a rotator.

You can replace the tow bar with a shorter beam so it fits between the axle
