    Big rock was my first RC and I still love to drive it! A few upgrades along the way because when you bash it hard you will break things. But also it being my first one I didn't know what to check for as far as maintenance like checking your mesh and checking your differentials every now and then. I literally beat the brakes off this truck! The parts I broke the most were drive axles. The second biggest replacement is i would pull the bottom perches right off the shock rods. But parts are relatively cheap and easy to replace on these 3s rc's. Great video with a lot of great information AJ!!👍💯

    Great vid. Miss the old outro ha. Have Big Rock, Vorteks, Granite, & Typhon in 3S BLX. All bought for Christmas gifts in the family. Minor driver errors which have broken something on each vehicle. I’m 40, son 6, father 68. Being winter here we’ve stuck to driving in farm lot next to heated garage to stay warm. #1 issue with these vehicles are rocks caught in steering are preventing turning. If bashing only it seems to happen less frequently. Once we are racing each other hitting more and harder corners happens often. There’s a Kraton 6S and Stampede as well but love this 3S Big Rock. My favorite along with Granite!

    People should consider replacing the motor plate with a stronger one prior to running the Big Rock. There are several options. The stock motor plate is from very soft aluminum and WILL bend on a nose landing or impact. Chances are that other components are damaged as a consequence. Some ppl had to replace a motor, I had to replace to slipper clutch.
    Additionally, I strongly advice to add a bit of soft foam to the hole on the front left where small rocks can enter to block the steering.

    Glad to see you reviewing this one. I'm a big fan of long-wheelbase 1/10 scale monster trucks, but there isn't much on the market apart from the Big Rock.
    I'll be especially interested to see your thoughts on the design of the drivetrain, especially the power module and the composite center driveshaft. Apparently the driveshaft is prone to damage and the power module is prone to accumulating debris. I went with the Traxxas Hoss as opposed to the Arrma 3S vehicles for this reason, but I'm very open to being convinced otherwise.
    Your thoughts on cheap vs. expensive RCs is why I mostly stick to 1/10 scale. I love cheap beater vehicles that I don't have to worry about breaking. Dumping 1K into a large-scale seems like a recipe for not wanting to drive the vehicle very hard. Most of us in this hobby aren't made of disposable income lol.
    As always, good video!

  • @JIPPERR_1
    @JIPPERR_1 Год назад

    100% agree with your take on expensive vs less expensive rc's, also thats a really good point about the brake force being reduced when the throttle rate is reduced to 50/75%, I'll have to experiment with that. The SLT3 has programmable end points for the steering and throttle but they are a little tricky to set. Something like turn the radio on while holding full reverse and full right, then its in programming mode and you can make adjustments. Not handy enough to quickly change it and hand it off to a kid but doable for sure. Love the vids AJ, very comprehensive and enjoyable content 👍👍

    The Big Rock is the most legendary Arrma 3S basher and probably the most legendary 1/10th 3S basher of all brands for a few reasons...
    First, Arrma 3S is the best value for bashing on the market. They are incredibly tough right out of the box. The only recommended upgrades are the M2C Racing Motor Mount + Brace System and some suspension tuning (thicker shock oil and a bit more pre-load).
    These upgrades are huge because Arrma set up the 3S trucks for mild to medium bashing out of the box - it only makes sense. However, with really big jumps, you can slam the truck down really hard, bend a shock shaft, the weight of the motor hanging off the mount can bend the mount on a big hit and then gears aren't aligned properly and that leads to more issues; or in the more extreme cases - even snap the entire chassis.
    These 2 changes get you ready for huge jumps. The motor mount will keep that motor from moving even a millimeter no matter how hard you hit things, and the stiffer suspension will help absorb impacts and keep the shocks and chassis from breaking.
    Second - The Arrma Warranty. Its a HUGE part of the Arrma value. Broken parts? Free replacements, no questions asked unless they suspect extreme abuse or improper operation and even when I broke my chassis, they didn't ask (20-foot high jump at a skatepark landing straight onto a concrete curb slamming the chassis over the curb and shattering it LOL).
    Third - The Big Rock is a long-wheel base, widened Granite - basically. Its a monster truck, but it handles like a Truggy. Thats why people specifically like this model - its Just like the Kraton.
    The ONLY negative to this truck or really any Arrma 3S is the plastic parts getting cold and brittle in the winter. Otherwise, its one of the best bashers on the market today and definitely the best starter truck of all time. The Only negative specifically to THIS 3S Arrma is yea - the lack of colors. Its so weird that all the other Arrma 3S trucks have color options and only the Big Rock is left out 🤷‍♂️
    Ive had my Big Rock for over 2 years since the V3 came out, ran over 120 packs with every pack being EXTREMELY ABUSIVE and it still runs to this day and only ever broke 2 parts. 120 packs all full of jumps pushing 20 feet high and thats all thats ever broken - Im even still on the factory plastic diffs and spur gear because I did the M2C Racing Motor Mount upgrade and kept my driveline perfectly straight. Thats why Arrma 3S is the best - no time wrenching, all the time driving.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  Год назад +1

      WOW...Great information. Thank you so much for sharing. This is just the kind of response we like here, helping others understand how things work in the real world. You rock!

    • @christopheranderson6931
      @christopheranderson6931 Год назад

      You ran 120 packs through it and *never* had to replace the slipper clutch, *never* had issues with the composite driveshafts, *never* broke an A-arm, *never* wore out the spur gear due to debris? After jumping 20 ft in the air?
      You must have been landing it every time. The problems with this platform are very well documented and others have broken the truck doing far less. I'm sure you've had a great experience but forgive me for being skeptical.
      Because if that's been your experience....damn, I may think about going and buying one.

    • @wallacengineering8096
      @wallacengineering8096 Год назад +1

      @@christopheranderson6931 Ya, its been my experience because I upgraded it before I ever drove it. The M2C Racing Motor Mount + Brace System is incredibly important, it makes sure that center transmission area is absolutely BULLETPROOF and that by extension reinforces the rest of the driveline. Everything stays straight and tight, also tuned the shocks with 50wt oil and a bit more preload to absorb landings better.
      I have broken parts, I just don't count them as issues with the truck because they were clearly MY FAULT. Sure Im on the original diffs and spur but I did break a rear skid plate and wheelie bar mount when I did a 20-foot high jump at a skate park with a triple backflip, hit the brake at the wrong time and slammed the rear end down onto the concrete. Of course that would break it, that would break anything, including aluminum.
      But when it comes to bashing pretty damn hard and just having normal crashes like cartwheels or rolling over or landing sideways on some dirt or grass like normal people, ya nothing has broken or gone wrong. Im surprised my factory drivetrain has survived tho cuz I did jump out of a bowl at a skate park, another massive 20-foot-high jump and slammed the chassis over the lip snapping it in half and it did literally NO damage to anything else - just got a warranty chassis and it was up and running again. Again this doesn't count, that kind of hit would have even bent a M2C 4mm Arrma 6S Bashing Chassis, it was a dumbass move and I paid the price for it.
      I will tell you that the plastic DOES eventually wear out. At this point all of my rod ends are so worn out that the ball joints just slide in and out, nothing is tight anymore, there is slop in every single link and tie rod/turnbuckle. This truck is no longer precise or accurate to drive whatsoever, but it still runs and still bashes hard, so honestly I don't care, its a cheap basher meant for fun without worry and you know what - the Arrma 3S trucks are the best in the business at that.

    I am have become very interested in the rc hobby. I am retired now and looking for a hobby to help occupy some of my time. I am in the research stage and have thought about making the Arrma Big Rock or Senton as my 1st rc. When I first started researching, I was leaning toward the new Redcat Vilcano EXP Pro, the the Team Associated Rival MT10 became a strong contender but with my continuing research, I am leaning toward the Big Rock because of the wider stance over the Senton. They share the same chassis with the Big Rock having longer arms. My intention is to make a semi monster VW Bug out of it. My wife had a a VW Bug when we were dating and got married so I think it would be cool. I was thinking the wider stance if the Big Rock might help with that. I would appreciate any thoughts and recommendations toward my research direction.

      I get your perspective and you're right to see it that way. However, we push our cars a lot harder when there is traction to be had. Snow slows everything down and lessens the impact ratings significantly. We lower the ratings to compensate for that. Also, the RC has the opportunity to raise the evaluation when we do the brutal review on it. It sucks to penalize a car for the time of year, but here we are, doing just that. Thanks for commenting. What about this compared to the granite? Big rock seems a bit more stable, but granite looks like it has some wild fun characteristics. What do you prefer? Also you were talking about batteries. Would be a good video! I'm struggling to find a good hard case 3s battery about 6000/6800mah that would fit in an arrma 3s and kraton 6s (two stacked). Gensace makes s basher series at that rating, supposedly "made for arrmas"! That don't fit in the 6s kraton or the 1/10 granite, two of Arrmas most popular cars. Thanks

    • @AJJAMStudios

      Both vehicles are fun. The granite is a short wheelbase truck, which is awesome for stunting. The big rock, however, is a long wheelbase chassis and more stable because of that length. I would say the big rock controls a bit better, but it is still a matter of taste, what works for you? I would say you can’t go wrong either way. Thanks for asking.

      Granite probably. If I want a stable rig to rip around in a wide open space I'll drive my kraton 6s. Thanks!

    The matt black finish was created by painting the body on the outside, instead of the inside like most.
    It's a intensional look, not laziness.
    If they used the same paint on the inside instead, the effect would be a gloss look.
    As it's the lexan body giving it the glossy look.
    With that said, I really like matt black cars.

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  Год назад +1

      I was aware of how it was done, and there is nothing wrong with a matte black finish. I just don't care for it much. Personal preference, that's all. Thanks for commenting.

      @@AJJAMStudios Well I only wrote it because you called it lazy.
      I wouldn't call anything lazy, that took the same amount of effort to make.
      You are in your right to not like it, but it's not lazy.

    • @truerc
      @truerc Год назад

      @@RandomloserDK It is a bit lazy because they do paint the inside silver on their other similar bodies. So when they get scratched, there is still some paint showing, the intention being a battle damage look. With the brcc it's definitely going to get scratches and it just leaves unpainted translucent plastic behind. They should have at least painted the inside black with a matte coating on the outside. But as usual, arrma cuts a lot of corners.

    Which is better granite or big rock ???

    • @AJJAMStudios
      @AJJAMStudios  6 месяцев назад +1

      It truly is a matter of preference. The shorter wheelbase of the granite makes it more of a stunt truck, it gets the front wheels in the air a lot more easily, and bounces around the yard quite nicely. However, the big rock has a longer wheelbase and is inherently more stable. So depending upon what it is, you plan to use it for that should help you make your choice. Each one is perfect for its particular application, but now the newest version of these cars comes with a center differential which makes them more manageable. I can’t really help you choose because I love them both.

I feel like a moron, selling it so when I get my money right again, I’m gonna go back out and buy that one and a couple more I sold it I shouldn’t sold so I got a couple more I have to go get again But reason why I sold it because the batteries or two suspensive now their batteries are like $40 a pop then it will be a lot better but you’re charging like $80 due $100 and up for batteries and lotta people came this word the batteries are you get what I’m saying so they should make the batteries like Cheaper or if people want to play with the Hobby and it’s bull crap because so much money I spent over for three batteries for my big rock.
