I agree... I have been ill the last 2 weeks, but self isolated because of watching Dr. Campbell's videos here from the beginning. I tested negative for influenza and was told I just have "some random cold virus." Because of Dr. John, I have not spread this in the community. Whether it's just a cold or COVID-19 does not matter... getting sick with anything right now puts people at risk, and if they have a cold then they are weakened if they catch COVID-19. These videos have no doubt already saved people from possible illness or perhaps even death.

I'm with you. Our government finally announced today that 1 million tests will be going out in the next 8 hours, and 4 million more next week, with greater production ramping up beyond that. I've been shocked by the absolute lack of action by our CDC. A majority of Americans do not trust the CDC to handle this effectively. All that's offered me any solace is the NY Times article that interviewed survivors and recanted their experiences. There is hope for a majority of us to survive this. I just fear for the at risk demographics.

He, and the others who we were exposed to, are not qualified to test for the virus because according to the government, the virus is not locally transmitted. How will the government EVER acknowledge local transmission is occurring when they wont grant citizens realistic qualifications to test??? I have heard first-hand from other nurses in the community that patients are being turned away from the hospitals after having clear symptoms because they have not traveled to China, have not had physical contact with someone who has tested positive, and do not need to be in the ICU. I'm Italian, I live in italy.
Death rate here it's high for two reason:
Nr. 1 : we are not testing so aggressively, only ppl wich have symptoms are now tested.
Often when the dedicated number it's called even if you have symptoms if you didn't had contact with other infected or yellow / red zones they don't do the test.
Nr.2: we have the oldest or one of the oldest population in the world, in fact only people carrying other diseases or illness dies but usually they are in the mid 70's or 80's (no case below 60 yr without underlying issues have been reported yet).
Psychosis it's a thing here, that's for sure but other than that I would say that we have just been unlucky since first cases were probably imported by Germany or China and having a very old population the virus has a lot of chance to spread.
Also a lot of ppl keep thinking that's a flu type disease, they don't understand that if, or to say the least when, ICU beds would be full toll rate will jump up for elderly.

It also might have helped if this hadn't happened:
In 2018, the White House focused on eliminating funding to Obama-era disease security programs. In March of that year, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, whose job it was to lead the U.S. response in the event of a pandemic, abruptly left the administration and his global health security team was disbanded.
That same year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was forced to slash its efforts to prevent global disease outbreak by 80% as its funding for the program began to run out.
Also cut was the Complex Crises Fund, a $30 million emergency response pool that was at the secretary of state’s disposal to deploy disease experts and others in the event of a crisis. (The fund was created by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.)
So the whole world is paying for trump's obsession to destroy anything the Obama administration put into place. Sad.

The difference maybe: Not a pandemic -> countries should try to contain the infected people. Pandemic -> next step, to late for containing. At this point Containing is the best to do. And it seems, there is a difference between China, South Korea, Singapore and Europe. In Europe the governments seem to accept 60 to 80% of the people will get the virus and containment is only to make infections delay. In Asia maybe the government really try to isolate and contain. They did not give up so fast.
China was so bad at the beginning. Than they take actions and they had a very great impact on economy. But in Germany for example, the economic seems more important for the government.

Californian here. I find it amazing & amusing that anyone is offended at a "mere foreigner" criticizing the lame USA response to this situation. A virus doesn't have a nationality, and is no respecter of persons or politics. As far as "the economy", stay tuned. The U.S. powers-that-be will soon find out that "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" is not just a quaint saying.

If you were in charge of the entire US response to this outbreak and all options were on the table, what would you do?
Lots of bad options really. Think about us Americans, we never like being told what to do. Ever. I think Trump gave us a sneak peek at what the gov is hoping - “around a 1% mortality rate.”
They’re going to let it go and hope for the best. Really, that’s the plan. 2020 is going to be really really rough.

My goodness , Dr. John , I have big ol' tears in my eyes thinking of you getting the virus !! I pray you never catch it , and if you do that it will be asymptomatic. I've grown attached to you like a dad. You gotta be ok, we are counting on you! If you do get sick you have to keep us updated with videos on how you are. I pray your wife stays well also. God bless you both.
I just found out we have 5 cases here in Texas. In and near Houston.

Possible name...Dr. John Campbell’s Army. Seems to me we are his foot soldiers and ready for battle against this monster of a virus. He could also leaves us messages as how well he and his wife are doing.

@@grannyb189 Not army... something more like family or community because it is more representative of us all coming together in this. Dr. Campbell is like a trusted dad, grandpa, or tribal elder... someone called him CoronaDaddy the other day, haha. We are like his tribe of online commenters. :) I agree that this is an excellent idea... especially as more and more people will become isolated due to quarantines and such. I don't use facebook, but would join a Discord group if it was moderated and self policed to kick out the nutcases, lol.

He is just being realistic. I also live in Britain and the way our government has handled this is shocking. Might aswell have just opened the door to it in virus terms. I'm almost certain I and my family will also get it despite our very best efforts so all we can do is hope its mild and/or the NHS has some spare spaces left by then.
In the doctors case he has age against him (same here) but he also has a good understanding of what is happening, why that is and what (if anything) he can do about it which a lot of people don't.
That knowledge goes a long way.

I live in California and believe me when I say, I have religiously been using hand sanitizer, using disinfecting wipes on my steering wheel and pretty much everything that I touch. I don’t understand why I don’t see others doing the same thing. We’re in a state of emergency and nothing has changed. Schools are still open and I’m suppose to start classes in UCLA next week and I haven’t heard anything. Makes me really worrisome, some people I’ve spoken to, including a nurse, did not take it serious. I am so upset with the American people. Dr. John Campbell, thank you for your updates.

Janet Airlines, You can wear rubber gloves at times to cut down on the washing. Also use alcohol wipes. Don’t get dry or broken skin as that is a way for the virus to enter you body. Use a good hand cream to protect your skin.

Here in the pacific, in New Zealand we have just had a case of someone with the virus who attended a music concert in Auckland. The health brigade is now trying to get all those who were at this concert in the area this person was seated to report or self isolate. Again its a case of reactive, talk of shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted!
But, seriously we are concerned about our pacific neighbors, the small isolated island nations, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and more. And some of these islands have travel, air and sea with China, the US and Australia who have been hit. The cruise ships stop there. Samoa was one of these nations that was hit very hard by the the Spanish Flu in 1918.
