  • In this video I briefly talk about whether or not the 3rd gen prelude is a good project car, from an objective, and then subjective point of view. So do not worry about me bashing the car because I absolutely love it.

I’ve had some “fun” with mine, mainly hunting for a crank pulley on the Facebook groups and other parts. It’s the only reason I’m not going to really invest much in mine. I have a 1990 Honda prelude si 2.1L b21 with 150K. I’ve replaced the power steering pump , drive belts , crank pulley, lower control arms, belt tensioner, rotors and brakes and the speed sensor, I had to crank Stein it with another accord sensor cause like you said, almost all parts are discontinued and it makes it a real hassle. I’ve daily driven it for awhile but I’ve had to park it once or twice for a week or two, just waiting on parts. And yeah, almost no swap compatibility without having to buy whole new harnesses . I’m just going to run mine till it blows, and part it out. I love the car and I think it’s sleek. I’ve got bmw bottle caps and I love the look. Not the best project car tho

Finally the 3rd gen is getting some love. And this guy is a watch canaseur like I am. I have a 3rd gen but with a b21a swap but I also live watches and Casio is f2f my favorite. Love all the databanks, twin Celts and shocks. I really digging the content. Thanks

Thanks man! I'm hoping to make more prelude related content in the spring but as of right now it's under a foot and a half of snow. Do you have any plans for yours? Casio is a solid brand, I have one of their databanks. I was considering picking up a world timer "Royale" for an unboxing video.

@@massedoesstuff7128 only plan is to get her back on the road and boosted again. I had a t3/t4 greddy on it running tech2 AF management computer. That might be way before your time but i believe the tech2 has failed so i need to figure out another AF controller and undo all the tech2 mess. I threw away all the ignition compenents years ago so its not so easy to go back.

I absolutely loved mine. It was a blast to drive, turned heads and chicks dug it. Yes it was slow and I got smoked by almost everyone, that is until it came to the curves. I'd lose ya in the twisties. I miss the hell out of it.

It has some of the best styling and handling of the era, plus the interior is actually a big step up from most of Honda's offerings from the time period. Unfortunately Honda decided to hamstring it by giving it an underwhelming engine at best.

I was the original owner of a 1988 red with black interior prelude si. Had it for 17 years and drove it every day....186,000 miles. Best driving car I ever had. The visibility in it was amazing. You could see within an inch of any object when parking and it was a NYC car, so I know about parallel parking. The seats were so comfortable you could take a 10 hour trip and never know you had a back. It had grest style. I loved everything about that car, but my favorite were the pop up lights. It never needed any major work until it hit 15 years old. I cried when I had to junk It. It broke my heart but it was toast at 17 years. I will always miss that car, it was my favorite. Then I got an accord. I liked It. Then got a civic....Not a fan of it. I don't think any thing will ever compare to the prelude I had. Wish I could buy that car brand new again.

You should just buy another one for the heck of it! I've owned mine for about 6.5 years and I'll definitely agree with you on the parking (the 4ws makes it super easy) and the visibility makes driving modern vehicles suck. I'll second the comment on the seats, I've made trips from Edmonton to Vancouver multiple times in it (just over 12 hours) and you won't have a crazy sore back like in other cars.

@@massedoesstuff7128 I totally agree with the visibility making driving other modern cars suck.
The commercial Honda ad used to say ...the car sells itself. I said nope rather it's the car that drives itself.
I've never driven a car that was as much fun to drive. Every weekend I took long road trips up and down the I 95 corridor on the east coast. Other times I'd find windy twisty roads. That car could corner...it was awesome.
I have zero mechanical skills, so I can't buy an antique car. Plus I live in NYC and no way would I park it on a the street now, they'd steal it within a few mins.
What I'd like to do is rent the one I had for a few hours and take it for a drive. I've looked but can't find any such thing.

I kinda regret not getting one a few years ago, they were going for about €1000-€2200 (depending on 4ws and having MOT)
My budget was kinda los at the time.
But there was a nice white one with KW coilovers, racing seats and wheel, it had a broken gear box tho and well, was another's project lol.
It did just recently had rust repair tho.
I was also looking for VW golf mk2's as I liked them too, they were a little cheaper and alot cheaper in insurance and taxes.
    (Got a nice 80s mk2 now tho)
    I like the
Prelude 3rd gen just so much..
It's also very rare here and parts could really be an issue and I'm not really the mechanic type.
Tho ig I could swap a gear box by now.

Sorry let this comment slip through the cracks. But hey those mk 2 golfs are pretty cool. I always find with vintage stuff the prices most always climb as opposed to going down. Hopefully one day you'll be able to snag one just to have the experience. It's well worth it!

I just picked up one same color as yours Fuel injected but no 4ws with 130k it drives great has ac and heat working and cooling system works amazing I paid good money for it honestly as I sold my daily for it. I have a truck I use on the weekend so I needed something with low gas mileage during the week again best car I have ever driven tbh. Honestly parts aren’t too hard to find tbh I think the only thing is aftermarket stuff but idc for modding the car tbh I just want a reliable old school car
