When you're a Honda guy but you also want to be a little bit different (i.e: not buying a Civic), Prelude is the answer. I love and respect the 'lude, but I wouldn't buy one because the S2000 and Integra would be higher on my bucket list. Still, great video, love this series. I've had 5 4th gens in my life, and by far they're my favorite car I've ever owned. The first time I ever swapped an engine was my first one. I took a h23 from a gfs wrecked car and made a franken-build engine to replace my base f22. Had both cars side by side in my buddies 2 car garage, and did the whole swap with a jack, hoist, and only hand tools. The only thing I couldn't do meself was get it timed, but after an hour at the local import shop down the road it was complete! My last one had 4ws swap, and a JDM h22a bored and built, cheaply I might add. That monster would peak near 9 grand before red lining. It was a beast of a Honda. I drive a MazdaSpeed6 now, but I think of my 'Ludes every day
4th Gen ('96 VTEC) owner here; Best car I've ever driven. Had a '95 VTEC in high school, and have been chasing that high ever since I sold my 95 'lude. Thankful to have found another low mileage example to DD!
We had a white ‘91 4WS....absolutely adored her, drive a 2000 V-tech currently. She needs some new paint, a good refresh inside and out, but I love her too.
I love my manual transmission red 5th gen 99 Honda Prelude. I bought it about 2 years ago with about 165k miles on it. It has 170k miles on it right now. Almost completely stock, only thing I've done is change the interior & license plate lights to LEDs. Swapped out the stock radio to a almost button-less clean looking Pioneer touch screen unit while snaking a discreet microphone for Bluetooth calls behind the dash, cluster/A pillar, ceiling, and added the SH trim stock spoiler. I want to replace the oxidized headlights with the same stock ones & put in white HIDs and paint the side & back skirts to make it look like the SH trim and be done with the car. If I could splurge, I'd paint the whole thing black. It'll look just like the SH without all the problems the 4-wheel steering had. When I purchased the car, yes I had to replace the timing belt, it was split in half long ways. Yes, the paint fades. I can tell that whoever had it before did a cheap paint job due to clear coat fading on a fender, the roof, side view mirrors, door handles, & trunk, and everywhere else looking good, but chipping away, meaning a recent, but cheap paint job. Oh, and those H22A engines burn oil quite a bit, and I changed out all the gaskets and seals. Last thing to warn everyone; with the manual transmissions, the synchro gears have known issues and will grind at high RPMs. Mine does it between going from any gear at a high RPM to 5th gear. Still love the car. Apparently its a known defect that I've seen on forums happen to with only 20k miles on it so its best just to live with it.
I'm middle aged now, got married but never had kids and never let go of my stockish 97 SH. Been daily driving it for almost 20 yrs and while the paint is faded and she's not fast by today's standards, she's still fun in the corners and puts a smile on my face. Except for the leaky trunk, oil burning, and rickety shocks, she's been reliable and running on almost all factory original parts (beyond consumables). Even the AC still blows cold with the original compressor and freon.
I Love your guys' channel. I have a 4th gen Prelude Si Automatic. I immediately switched the transmission fluid to Amsoil Signature Series when I got the car at 84k miles and it totally started driving like new. Put 28k miles on the fluid then just changed it at 112k miles. It runs even better than the first time I changed it! I think the problem is that most people don't pay attention to transmission maintenance. Punching the gas in an automatic is definitely considered by the manufacturer to be "Heavy Duty" use. There is a "Heavy Duty maintenance schedule" for almost every vehicle. The mileage intervals for service for "heavy duty use" are super short. About 1/3 of the miles between fluid changes. If people would change their fluid every 10k miles there wouldn't be any issues at all.

i have a honda prelude from 2001 a 2.2 h22c 210 HP with the automatic, and it is completely reliable. I now have 320.000 kilometers on it, and shifts butter smooth. Like with everything else on a car, you need to maintain the auto trans to, most often that gets neglected. Change the ATF and Filter every 60-70.000 kilometers, and you'll have no problems with your automatic transmission.
I had a 3rd gen Prelude and I loved that car. It was super reliable, slow, and wonderful to throw into corners. It's still my favorite car I've ever owned. I miss it.
My first (and current) car is a 92 with a perfect interior. Unfortunately somebody let the quarters rust out to the point that half a side skirt isn't attached. favorite thing about the car is the handling. Must've gotten lucky on the auto trans cuz I beat the shit out of this thing and it doesn't seem to have any problems besides kind of a dodgy overdrive shift
Saw this video before I got my prelude and now watching it after I got the car and I love it. Wound up getting a bb2 and did an h22a1 swap and a stage 3 clutch got thrown in there n I love this car very much
Funny enough, I actually have more nostalgia for the second and third gen Preludes because my old man used to own a red '85 Prelude and a white '88 Prelude when I was little. They were both really neat cars, but eventually he wound up giving the '85 to a kid we knew that just graduated high school, who promptly rear ended a truck and totaled it, and the white '88 went to a family friend, who then gave it to his 20 something kid and he totaled it by hitting a deer. Dang it, I'm sad now.
As a owner of a 2nd Gen Prelude, I was searching in the comment section for one comment on this generation and I'm glad I ran across yours. I am sorry for the fate the '85 prelude had but I am glad you shared your story
Good video! Took out my 1996 VTEC out of a 10 year storage. The car was store for more than 15 years in total. Obviously the muffler was finished with rust so I got the Apexi N1 installed with the Active Silencer. Sounds amazingly good and gets thumbs up everywhere I go.
I gotta say what sucks about preludes is the high demand for them. Here in Nashville when I see a posting for 1 you have 1 week to make up your mind or come up with the money or else it’s gone
I had my '92 prelude for little under a year. I loved it so much. I had so many plans, then some lady felt the need to break check me on the highway and I ended up going 45 mph into her three inch tow hitch. Rip little 'Lude..

@@E3T7 I bought it for $800 runs like a beauty. Besides a speed sensor and the solenoid low pressure from the b-circuit it's been running clean I love it has such low center of gravity.

Love the way they look, especially the 5th gen. Such a pretty car, saving up for one right now
Had a 5th gen for a bit more than 2 years. It was indeed a great car to drive and own.
It's one of those car designs that age really well.
My first car was a red 1989 Honda Prelude Si (non-4WS) and while it was an automatic, 134 bhp never felt faster. ❤️
When you're a Honda guy but you also want to be a little bit different (i.e: not buying a Civic), Prelude is the answer.
I love and respect the 'lude, but I wouldn't buy one because the S2000 and Integra would be higher on my bucket list.
Still, great video, love this series. I don't usually make suggestions as hundreds of other comments do it, but... 'So You Want A Volvo C30'. Very, very close to buying one
Agreed although the s2000 is out of reach for some people these days. I'm a civic guy myself.
@@justryan5697 Ah, I hear that. There's a few decently priced S2000's in the UK, but the super-clean, face-lift models are a little out of reach. They'll always be a 90's Civic available for next to nothing with mod support for days 👍 the Prelude could be considered a mid-range between the Civic and S2K for people like us
Prelude, for the more mature Honda guy, but also Vtec bwaaahhhh!!
@@chevtothemax loool I hear that too 😂 I think if I was to do a Prelude build, it would be clean enough to eat off. With a Civic, I'd be too tempted to hollow it out, drop a K20 in it, and generally make more drastic mods. Same brand, but I'd end up treating them with a completely different mentality, so I hear you about the 'lude being a bit more mature
Buttt RSX type S is where it’s at boysss
My very first own car is a prelude 5th gen and I absolutely love it! Very reliable, looking hot (especially slammed) and enough power to have fun. Modifying it is easy and is a great start into tuning. Also, the automatic trans is good if it works, but rather manual lol
I got a 93 prelude my favorite car ever!! Got the H22a euro r engine all modded out. And it’s an awesome daily driver
Got my 5th gen for 300 with a bad automatic, went to a self pull junkyard and got 5 speed from a accord and rebuilt the engine have 0 complaints love the car
honda prelude: the official car of the vroom vroom nutsack.
ok how did i get a heart for this
Very true I got 2 lol
As a prelude owner, thanks a million
Fun fact! The Honda s500 600 and 800 models were discontinued following the release of the first gen prelude. The s2000 was released following the last gen prelude.
Also some generations of prelude have the F20B motor while the s2000 have the F20C
I just sold mine with pain in my hearts.
I had a bb8 2.2vti.
Almost never had a problem with it.
Just normal maintenance and 1 time the hood cable and 1 time the exhaust.
Had it for 12 years and every time i drove it, it put a big smile on my face.
Maybe one day I'll get another one
Got a ‘93 prelude about a year ago. Such a beauty of a car. Great performance, fun to drive, manual!! 🥵
Rocking my prelude 2000 daily

After commenting on many episodes, my wish has come true. The Prelude has been honored. Thank you Alex for all you have done.
'hpmhh'
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAH
No for real this means a lot, thanks guys. A lot of teenagers that are new to the car scene armed with stacks of daddies money always question the Prelude. Put them assholes back into their place where they belong!
i swear to god, everytime i here that intro music and the beat finally drops as it goes into clips of the car.... it brings satisfaction to my soul
Even though I already have owned my prelude for 2 years from time to time I enjoy coming back to watch this gem
I drive a MazdaSpeed6 now, but I think of my 'Ludes every day
I just paid 2k for my 2000 type sh. So reliable
damn i thought 3k for my '96 VTEC was a steal lol..
I also paid 2k for my lude
Got my 2000 type sh for 1500 cad
Listening while driving my 4th gen. Comments really do pay off
The 5th gen definitely has to be the best looking out of all of them, definitely underrated as well 👌
selectah i got the 5th gen and it definitely confused people and confuse it with other cars
@@eliaspineda6294 yeah i get that too! I currently have 2 right now, mine is fully debadged right now and people ask "what is it"? " 😂
@@kingofcrunk97 what engine is in yours bruv? I'm K swapping mine

The front wheel drive that looks like a rear wheel drive
Ae86 - Rwd that looks like fwd
Aznderek just convert the front and rear lights to a r34 and you get a honda skyline
and if you have the Type SH, handles similar to one as well
WOW the timing couldn’t be better I’m going to look at prelude today for my first car...(yes it’s manual 🙏🏼)
Do it, live the lude life and join our fb groups
My 93 prelude srv (vtec but in Canada) still gets a lot of looks. These cars are beautiful.
I've got a 99 Prelude so I look forward to seeing this
Wanna sell it?
@@6ix359 sadly no she's coming together nicely 😁

Hell yesssssss... lol 🤣
This needs to happen
My old 88 2.0Si 4WS 5 speed will always hold a special place in memory. If Honda had just given it a VTEC motor it would have been perfect.
So you want an Acura TSX both generations

I've seen so many FRESH looking Preludes at meets and events. Absolutely beautiful hell of a machine
i have a honda prelude from 2001 a 2.2 h22c 210 HP with the automatic, and it is completely reliable. I now have 320.000 kilometers on it, and shifts butter smooth. Like with everything else on a car, you need to maintain the auto trans to, most often that gets neglected. Change the ATF and Filter every 60-70.000 kilometers, and you'll have no problems with your automatic transmission.
I guess that means we have to harass you about making an e90 video.
You: They're unreliable.
Me: Yes, now roast me.
the 328s aren’t really that bad but the 335s on the other hand....
I had a 3rd gen Prelude and I loved that car. It was super reliable, slow, and wonderful to throw into corners. It's still my favorite car I've ever owned. I miss it.
3rd gens are my all time favorite i love mines

@@staibybaby7289 recently sold mines an regret it big time . i just hope the 16 year old i sold it to takes very good care of it like i did
My first (and current) car is a 92 with a perfect interior.
Owner of a 98 SH, absolutely love it. Over 225k miles on it, and still runs like a champ.
Saw this video before I got my prelude and now watching it after I got the car and I love it. Wound up getting a bb2 and did an h22a1 swap and a stage 3 clutch got thrown in there n I love this car very much
Yess!!!! Thank you! This is making me not wana sell my Prelude Type SH Anymore
I’m literally in the process of restoring a first gen Prelude, this is amazing
Good video! Took out my 1996 VTEC out of a 10 year storage. The car was store for more than 15 years in total.
Obviously the muffler was finished with rust so I got the Apexi N1 installed with the Active Silencer. Sounds amazingly good and gets thumbs up everywhere I go.
