Definitely worth it . Are there better options? Of course , are they a Seiko SKX? No and there’s nothing that compares to the SKX. I own an SKX009 as well and one of my absolute favorites. Awesome review and watch 👍🏻😎💪🏻💯
I think people are losing site by harping on specs and comparing it to supposedly better on paper spec of dozens of homages. This watch is an icon and has historical value and most importantly is not a copy. Just like the original Rolex milsub is going for$$$ despite acrylic crystal, pressed clasp etc when you can get a steinhart homage with better specs for 1/250th of the price. The skx is a legend that is sealed in watch history while your homages will be long forgotten and always will be considered a copy... They can offer illusion of better value but no homages spent the $$$ seiko did to design, market, and develop the movement and wouldn't exist if seiko didn't do that. Saddest part is so many ragging on seiko while chasing a " copy" of the seiko....sure someone can draw the mona lisa better on better canvas and sell it for fractions, does it make it better?
Nice review! got my 007j since 2013 and been loving this watch until today. Its true the price has gone up because it has become "rare" and there are other watch cheaper with sapphire or better specs. But this is the best everyday "tool watch". Its like a tank I've used this everywhere and I never worried about my watch still running strong and whenever I get a new watch I still end up using this most of the time.
I got mine for $180 CND, came from Japan, I simply love this watch, changed the bracelet every now and than to a navy band. I have had it for about 5yrs. Tried to find it again and the price is about $700cnd now. If I had known I would have bought two of them. This is a great watch, don’t care what others say. It’s simply a solid diver watch, and yes I do go swimming with it. I wear it with jeans or a suit. It’s just a fantastic piece for the price. I find it durable and accurate in keeping the time. Sure it stops working when I don’t wear it for a long time, but give it a shake and it starts right up. I also have a Breitling, yes that was an expensive watch, but I keep wearing my Seiko.
I would have bought 100 of them at that price. And they definitely are a solid watch, well respected and a total legend in the watch community. I'm glad you're enjoying yours!
Great review. I was late to the party on this watch but had to grab one last year. I have by no means a high end collection but a bunch of nicer seikos than this, but this has become my daily. It’s hard to explain but there’s just something about this watch. I actually like that it doesn’t have hack and wind, the simplicity and proven durability is what drew me to it. The Pepsi bezel is going to look great as it ages.
Great review! Thank you! However, just to provide a different perspective. I heard that the hardlex crystal is actually not that bad, and better than regular mineral glass??
Thanks! And you're correct, hardlex is better than your generic mineral glass, however it scratches way too easily when compared to sapphire, albeit pretty much everything will.
Just got one for $330 (October 2021 for those in the future). The heart wants what it wants. The 007J is going for $700 on the largest Seiko grey market site. Good thing I'm a sucker for the pepsi bezel!
Anything under $400 is a good deal i think. Under $300 is an excellent score. The new ones are about dried up. Soon it will only be only pre owned ones on the market.
@@M3LTUP I'd second your statement. They're still solid watches with a ton of personality and character. If you can find it cheap pick it up. The time to do so is fleeting quickly. The scalpers have already taken over lol
It's february 2024. I found a pre-owned SKX009J1 in mint condition with the original rubber strap and jubilee bracelet. Even the asking price was fair. SOLD!!!
For me yes it was worth it. Mines a 2018 J version and I paid 450 for it. They’re going for 600 now. Way overpriced but cool costs money, icon costs money once they’re discontinued. Put an uncle seiko on it and do not mod it. Watch the patina and memories grow and one day you will have a very special watch.
I lucked onto a near mint 2018 007 about a year ago. I paid 260USD. I bought it in part because there were micro-brands making SKX homage watches after it was out of production. I figured - why not get the real thing. It was definitely worth what I paid for it. It is not worth 400, 500 dollars or more. (my chapter ring is 2 1/2 minutes out of alignment)
Exactly, it's the smart thing to do. The only downside is the purists get annoyed that it's not "all original" and it affects the resale value. Albeit we're talking about an entry level seiko here, not an Omega or Patek.
@@massedoesstuff7128 Imo. The sapphire is the only mod to do on these. And always ask watchmaker to give the original mineral glass back. Flat or domed sapphire with blue AR looks pretty awesome.

I sold mine a few years back and replaced it with a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical, which was a huge upgrade for the same price point. My daily wearer now is a Maratac LSA that I got for $400. It has a Seiko NH35B, grade 5 titanium case, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, etc. It’s way more watch than Seiko makes for the same price.

Over time the mineral glass gets scratched up. When you replace the mineral glass w sapphire. Have your watch guy adjust the alignment too.
