- Yeap, I felt the need to solo this one as well! It didn't quite go as smooth as Emerald, but that was a whole different story. Emerald Weapon has a lot more HP than Ruby does, but I don't believe Emerald has anything on Ruby Weapon. For this one I spent a good portion of my night dying because of stupid choices or just very terrible luck. I farmed Power Sources for Cloud and maxed out his Strength stat, but Ruby Weapon's defense is SO high that you'd have to load up on Hero Drinks just to inflict enough good enough damage on it. I'm ashamed to say, but I learned after posting this that Hero Drinks really stack up to about 5 uses before you max out on power. I had no idea!
The setup goes a little like this:
*Counter Attack/Mime
*W-Item/4x Cut
*Final Attack/Phoenix (Life saver)
*Elemental/Fire
I don't think I used Mime properly but I was just trying out new Materia combos to see if they worked. My auto-life insurance setup screwed up the legitimacy of this solo title but he whirl sanded Cid and Tifa died, how lucky! Maybe one day I'll do this again and try to beat him in under ten minutes.
You can debate with yourself on whether or not it's worth beating both Emerald Weapon and Ruby Weapon for the Master Materia, because by the time they are both defeated you're more than likely overpowered and don't need magic anyways when Omnislash and other broken materia setups are available.

ff7 veteran: we all know that this fight is harder with more than 1 team member
So surprised about this RUclips video that I clicked to see if anyone made a comment about what I was just thinking. Here you are!
As a real ff7 veteren no this battle isnt hard solo its easier. Bread a gold chocobo. Then max out elixer with w-item glitch. Then master counter and mime. Kill your party and max your limit guage before the battle. Use elixer then omnislash upon entering. If you get hit you will answer with an elixer then omnislash 78 hits of 9999 to be exact. Thats if you hit lvl 99 or use items in battle to max stats. This fight is not hard at all.
Btw the gold chocobo is so you can get mime. Maybe counter cant remember. Been awhile. Another pro tip. Set your save point at the end in the second area that has movers where you can enter and re-enter the area. This will prevent the missing latter glitch in sephiroths cave.

I was literally terrified of this boss when I was a kid. I would shit myself and hide behind the sofa if I accidentally bumped into the red worm in the desert.

both ruby weapon and emerald weapon were a nightmare to me , I never thought that there was a way to beat them , and here some master player bested them like a BOSS , good job man

I recently did it with an unleveled knights of the round paired with HP absorb, hades, mime and an HP plus Materia. He barely got to attack and was dead within minutes.
That was amazing. I’ve never defeated Ruby and you just went and solo’d it. I’m jealous.

For using counter/mime, it will repeat the last command that was used. For instance Omnislash, when you use it the first time, next battle command select mime, and Cloud will use Omnislash again and again, until you select a different command....this strategy worked perfect when I defeated Emerald weapon.

Use counter paired with mime its the best materia combo when you open with a limit. From there everytime you get hit you counter with mime. Copying the players last action. You can pair 4 i beleive so if you get hit you answer with a limit 4 times in a row.
You can auto kill Ruby without pushing a button 😂
2 final attack KOR combos.
1 final attack revive combo.
HP plus and hpmp.
And a ribbon.
There's a RUclips channel called 4-8 productions that came up with it. I'm about to try it myself, I've heard others say it works in his comments but I want the satisfaction of doing it myself.
Also make sure to Max stats if you don't you might want to add another final attack revive combo, or kor will not be able to kill him in 10 turns.

Awesome fight. The most anticlimax reward ever. You need a gold to get what you need to beat him and is reward is another gold. Bragging rights only with ruby

Materia was such a good fighting system..❤ the combos the choices.
I actually don't recommend this way because it took HOURS maxing out some of the stats I needed to win this battle. I say the usual Dazer on the boss + Magic Hammer is fine.

Vincent Zero dude it was a joke its just that the names of the character are important at least for me i don't want that Crono from !CHRONO! trigger for example its named ALFREDITO or goku or something like that but its ok if you like to put names its prefectly ok i just was trying to be funny
I think Ruby is harder but Emerald has higher HP.
Probably my least favorite thing in this entire game is the Hero Drink sound effect.
That just goes to show how good this game is.
Both match up very nicely, and one thing I did learn after doing this video is that Hero Potions have a max value..... they increase Str/Def/Mag Atk./Mag Def by 30% so I used WAYY more than 4 haha.

I imagine fighting the super bosses in the VII remake will be like fighting Adamantoise in XV, only harder.

Yeah but there won’t be a W-Item glitch so good luck. You’ll have to farm for those hero drinks and elixirs.

Nicely done. Risked a 33% chance of utter failure and could have easily used X Potions in place of Elixirs, but still, very nicely done.

Whoa! Looking at this vid makes me wonder how I even beat Ruby so many years ago? I forgot how insanely hard he was and I remember I was upset I got just one desert rose. lol Regardless this fight was so freaken awesome! Whether or not he used the Hero Drink, it still takes a long time. Whether or not you use your party later in the battle to assist, it still takes a long time. Ruby Weapon is a bastard plain and simple. :P
Let me suggest a new faster combo with 4x-cut, full cure and counter-mime.
Please tell me your opinion about my speedrun in 6:20 (or 4:35 with lucky 7).
I used Vincent with Mug and as he's attacking with that use KOTR with Cloud and MP Absorb. It skips the KOTR animation. 6 turns using that and he's done. I used Cid with w-item to use Dazers on Ruby and hero drinks/elixirs when needed.

+Joshua Brien Since you can't buy them, hold on to the three (or four ) you find in the game and duplicate them with the W-Item glitch. I learned that you don't need them so much for this boss but they help a ton.

I remember doing the game once without help, then again with help got and beat everything I the game. Was such a classic. Love this, ff8, ff10 and ff12. And currently loving FF7 remake although just doing the lineal stuff at the mo.

I usually do Ruby solo with Cloud...
2 x Master Summon paired with HP Absorb and MP absorb
1 x KOTR MP5
Every KOTR cast Cloud is insta healed back to full hp/mp - mime over n over...
Occasionally an ultima+ruby ray gets thru & kills u but not often (which then final attack revive brings you back). Ruby flame is absorbed by elemental fire in armour. Only real essential is the ribbon as ruby ray can petrify (which you would use 90% of the time anyways).

Emerald may have higher HP but Ruby has higher Defense.
Emerald -> 180
Safer Sephiroth -> 100-260 (if party is level 99)
Cloud and party -> 255 max per character
Ruby -> 480

Easiest way I found was equipping Knights of the round with hp absorb. Having w-summon with everyone using mimic.

Stun+hero potion+omnislash. But What your doing is slightly better. The attack item to stun him is in the area just before flower girl kicks the bucket.
The fact you can tell this is legit ps1 because of the noise in omnislash when the Ultima weapon gets charged
Ruby Weapon was and still is not worthy of the regular battle theme; Ruby Weapon deserved its own boss theme just because of how fucking strong this thing was.

The best way to beat ol' Ruby was use the Hades summon first. He would freeze for two or three rounds then use Hades again when he moved.

A much easier way. As soon as he buries his claws, revive or Phoenix down the other 2 members. Make sure 1 person has Hades and KOTR with W-summon and someone else has mime. Double summon and mime. He won't even get a hit off past his first one.

Its been awhile but pretty sure you just pair Counter with Mime, and KotR with HP Absorb. Then you literally just summon KotR to start the fight (with your other two party members pre-emptively KO'd) and put the controller down, go make yourself a sandwich, you've won.

believe me or not solo battle is easier than triple or duo battles because you don't need to focus on your friends just focus on YOU and you enemy it make you fight better
Really wana go back and play this again. I’d maxed everything, beaten everything and done everything there was to do. However I was like 12 when I did it all and now I’m 35 I’m feeling like I wana go back and do it all over again.

I never beat Ruby Weapon, but I did do everything else.
I also did it with 1 team member but it took forever and a half. I only had limit attacks. This is the switch version where the gage is always full. Even so I only survived because my health was maxed out and Ruby ran out of mp.
I wonder if Sephiroth can even destroy the Ruby Weapon with his godly powers
Is it weird that I beat this game 25 years ago but have no clue how to play it anymore? I think I actually beat the Ruby Weapon, but I never beat the Emerald Weapon. I beat the game with the 2X blade only.
I used Coin Toss to throw money at it til it died personally, but this strat is pretty good too.
I had a different strategy: hp/mp swap, final attack w/ Phoenix, wsummon, and mime. I just spammed hades and kor together with mime and smoked him without items.
Personally quad-knights with HP restore and wearing the ribbon is a much faster win.
Wait, I haven't played the classic FFVII before. are there no enemies' life line? how do we know how long until we're about to defeat enemies?

Even with 4x Hero's I Still had KoTR do 9999x x13 hits and STILL didn''t HIT Ruby weapon for more then 2000 PER Omnislash hits.
