I appreciate your page ! Question.. In this example you used a whole lot of compression on the vocal to the point that it sounded over compressed to my ear, what methods do you use to get a dynamically smooth vocal where the compression is transparent ?
Just pull back the ratio a bit.
Or pull back the mix blend on the compressor

I know i'm late to the party, but bruh, you the truth. Nearly cried myself sleep last night due to a bad session. You've just alleviated that pain. Thank you!
You are literally a life saver. This totally changed my vocals to sound so much better. LEGEND!!!
you engineer ?

Wishing you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2020. I want to thank you for your continued straight forward, no gimmick approach to your lessons. I have found them very informative and helpful, particularly in relation to Logic Pro X. It is much appreciated.
This was by far the best Vocal Processing in Logic Pro X tutorial I've seen, it's made a great different in a track I was working on. Many thanks.
Totally!!

Man, I’m so thankful for all your videos brother. You really help my life! Thank You
This is by far one of the best vids i've seen. This was a great help! Subscribed.
Dude - I just recorded a single vocal take, and you looked up 3 different RUclips guides on mixing vocals with stock Logic Pro plug-ins. Yours came out leaps and bounds ahead of the other 2, not even close!
Thanks (again) for this nice addition to the previous mix chain video. Especially when starting on a budget (read: without expensive plug-ins)!
One of the best videos I've seen. Can't wait to get home and cracking on this. Thanks!!
Great mix, thank you for explaining your thought process.
Thank you so much, got a better understanding of the eq’s & compression styles
Thank you so much for the video! You've helped me so much;)
I watched your other video where you mix vocals using third-party plugins, and 30 seconds in I stopped watching when I saw $1000 worth of plugins. This one nails it for me, and for many other amateur producers. Thank you :)
Thank you for this. This helped me understand how to improve the vocal without falling into the trap of over processing.
Step 1: Boost Upper Range Above 5 or 6K ( Shelf Boost)
Step 2: Boost 2K to 3K
Step 3: Filter Out Low End cut up to 100K for men vocals.
Step 4: Sweep 1 to 5K and reduce whistle sounds
Step 5: If input signal is lower than output signal, reduce gain.
2021. And you're still a lifesaver... Thank you
As always a great "classy" class! Thank You!
Thanks, been looking for a good tutorial for the stock plug-ins!
Now days I'm addicted to your videos....
Thank you so much
I believe your subscribers are more than primed for methods and solutions, “Of greater complexity”, within Logic, such as this.
Perhaps a 102 course. Comparisons between stock and 3rd party vintage plugins is crucial, as well.
Very well done, Carney.
Thanks! A few things were touched on here I couldn’t find anywhere else. Appreciated.
Amazing video - Helped so much! Thank you!
What a great, to the point video. This helps a ton!

Omg thank you I have been so confused about the compressor for so long ❤
Thank you so much,great video.
Very well presented! Thumbs Up!!
This is amazing thank you so much!
Hey- this is hands down one of the best mixing in logic videos I've seen. You kept things simple, clear, and you explained your thought process on each plug-in. Thank you so much!
Question- If you were to use Logic's Pitch Correction plug-in (or some other auto-tune plug-in), where would you have put that in the vocal chain? Before or after the compressors?
I am working on mixing some RnB projects that rely more heavily on autotune and distortion. Thanks!
Great help! Double thumbs up bro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was great, thanks!
thx for this it really helped!
I've been wondering how this kind of thing might be done with stock plug-ins, and this fantastically laid it out
Now I got this. Thx!
Thanks man. Really useful!
Thanks to share this video!!! Maybe it's could be more useful than other video for the newcomers of logic
What a legend this guy is
I’m excited to see if this works for us! Thanks for making such a good and simple video.

Thank you so much, very usefull dan clear explanation. 🙏
Wow... Another useful & skillful tips! Appreciate again! I not a big fan of Noise Gate, most of the time I'll go for Expander or the expander in Multipressor. Erm, it did the work (quite well) 😆 humble 2 cents
very informative video man thanks for this
You are the real deal. Thanks man
very clear tutorial....thank you sir....
Fantastic tips here!
Thank You! That was incredibly helpful! Ended up not using the DeEsser
Great video. Thanks

Very useful!! God sent ❤️
I am a beginner and this kind of hurt my brain, some things made sense some didnt, basically I got to study more.
period
stop doing drugs
You honestly saved my life
Very good tutorial!
best tutorials on youtube
Awesome job!..The vocalist should be singing... 'Your tutorial is a life for i'
Funny. I like the breaths in a vocal performance. Not the Essex if they are severe. I realize this is a tutorial so demonstrating the plugins is part of the point. Thanks!
Really nice video brother👍
Great video.
Thank you so much!!!!
most helpful video
THANK YOU
vary nice sir beautiful tutorial

love you bro more life thanks alot
finally a good tutorial
thank you mucho
Thanks!
Very very good
Thank you
thanks man
The eq is subjective to what mic and positioning, you have I have to make a cut around 100-200 as I sing quite close to the mic with soft vocals
Yes Bro 👌🏾👑
How mastering like same now
Another great tutorial; Thank you very much for this, Josh! Question: Would you do things differently if you were mixing vocals on a recording from a live performance? How would you approach compression and reverb/delay on a vocal track if you could hear other instruments bleeding into the mic channel?
You would approach it all very differently. First of all, you would have to use time-based effects with a different state of mind and I wouldn't use a noise gate either as it's just gonna sound choppy. EQ and compression will be similar but the compression ratio will be different as you don't want to crush the vocals to the level of the background noise. I hope that helped a bit. I'm not a pro at mixing or anything so take what I said with a pinch of salt but that's how I would imagine you would go about this scenario.
Jah Bless
Great Video thank you! One question.... When you cover lowering the gain to eliminate breaths I followed those same steps but the gain adjustment was grayed out and unusable. Is there some setting I might not have adjusted that would have effected that?
