Today I learned an important lesson: Heroes don't wear capes, they wear black hats and are absolutely incredible at explaining things. Thank you so much Sean.
Please don’t berate me, but I’ve been studying this video multiple times, listening back and forth between :50 and 20:55, and still doesn’t sound that much different. In my humble opinion, I attribute the mix to the fact he’s an expert mixer and barely needs to worry about all these extra buttons?
@@Vokal_StimmZ also do you know what Mastering is? It gives air and harmonics to all the frequencies and puts it to the level required to be the loudest possible while not getting rejected by streaming platforms. Making sure you’re not clipping or distorting too much .
For the first time I feel confident and exited about mastering my own music. Thank you so much for creating such high quality content that explains how the pros actually do it!
I watched this video several times over the last few days after setting up a home studio only to realize that Sean is the guy who used to live in a townhouse behind some friends of mine in north Charlotte. Thanks for the video, and glad to see you’re doing well.
Years I tell you, YEARS I had been (stupidly) compressing a clipping stereo out and calling my tracks done! This video has completely revolutionized my workflow and changed how I finish my tracks. I wish I found this earlier man thank you so much.
can't wait to get feedback like that on my new channel i started! makes me happy to see others appreciating content creators for what they do. awesome stuff!
Mannnn!!!! I was losing all hope with my song/mix...until I discovered your video and followed step by step and my mix sounds sooooo much better. God, thank you thank you!!! I am so grateful.
As the mastering engineer for my bands, this video is going to help out a lot. I’ve already had a similar workflow to this since 2020, but I *slept on* the Phat FX plug-in.
I just started with Logic and this is my first time attempting mastering. Thanks for the hugely helpful video! I've got lots more to learn but this first track is already sounding better thanks to you.
Watched this 6 months or so ago, and I knew it would help for the future. Watched it again today and the quality difference of my mixes, through thorough practise, has improved tenfold.. all because of this vid. Cheers Sean 🙏😎
I’ve seen soooo many mixing videos for logic and this is SO helpful, by far the best one I’ve watched when it comes to the useful info I just learned. As someone who really only uses the stock plug ins, thank u 🙏
Thank you, Sean. Finding the right recipe for mastering a song is difficult enough. Then having to match the other tracks on the album so they all have the same sonic flavor is a three dimensional chess game, since every song needs its own tweaks-even when all were recorded the same way on the same day.
I like to mix into a mix bus which then goes in to the master out. That way, I put mastering processors on the mix bus and the meters etc on the master out, just to give room for each. Great stuff Sean, some good tips as always, cheers.
man i was yelling all sorts of bullshit when he turned that drive up on the bitcrusher. this is why i'm in love with bedroom producing, it is really a creative vibe and so many ways of landing on your feet I'm glad I clicked.
me tooooo! i thought my top 5 stock plugins were the best, but now i am second guessing the video i just dropped on my new channel lol. GREAT STUFF HERE!
Finding this video at 3 am is the best thing to ever happen to me just when I found out that my friend who was supposed to master this track was on holiday.
I just dropped this chain on my mix for a movie trailer score I've been working on, and I'm amazed at the difference. Headphones or studio monitors, absolutely stoked at the improvements. Thank you for this video!
As usual, Sean, you attention to detail coupled with the simplicity at which you show your level of expertise makes this tut worth watching. Thank you, sir!!
Thanks, this tutorial really helped me out a lot. This is a great Tutorial for someone, who knows his way around in his DAW and has failed his previous mastering-attempts - just like me.. It helped me stitch together the missing peaces and together with some other tools i already used, I could bring up my master into a good shape.
Fantastic video Sean. As a middle aged guy, Iv'e been using Logic since it was made by emagic but there is always much to learn and I find I can learn from older people and younger people like you. From this, I think I can stop paying others to master my music. I also wanted to compliment you on actually playing your music so we can h ear what you are actually doing. So many producers with RUclips channels show us and explain the technical ins and outs but seem to hide their work. Not only do you let us hear what you are doing but what we hear sounds great, both in quality of production and in the quality of the song. But your next step is to tell us where we can find that song (c'mon man, promote yourself).
Thanks for the mastering advice, it helped loads. This track is so good, its nice to hear proper music as an example instead of a song with the guy going "ayy" all the way through it.
This is awesome. Logic just seems chock full of lesser known tools that are extremely handy. Learning from the provided tools in Logic helps me understand and appreciate third-party plugins even more. So glad I found this vid. Thank you.
What a fantastic video! I have produced around 20 songs over the last 2 years and following these steps has made my latest one sound so much better produced than my other work! Thank you 🙏
I knew the vid was going to be good as usual, I just wanted to comment to say this song is pretty dope from the vibe to the sound to the mix (obviously).
My favorite way of mastering with the multipressor is to send each band solo'd to individual busses. This way you can control the stereo width of each band, as well as add effects or distortion to each individual band.
🔥Thanks for these videos Sean. My mixes are 💯 after watching your tutorials. I use Logic Pro X stock plugins and you are a big help. The best on RUclips.🔥💪🏾
Yooo you are dope I didn’t even know where to start with mastering but I refer to your video I’ve only done 4 so far but your passing of knowledge is appreciated I wish you the best !🙏🏾👏🏽
Great tutorial, full of new info for me I've been casually using Logic for years but it's only lately I've been finding out how deep and feature-packed this DAW is! Thanks and I'll be checking out more of your vids.
I had to come back again today and review the high points... what a great new knowledge set this is for my home studio mixes!~ Level was always my weakest point, but not any more. Also bought Ozone on a $29 special and that adds some great imaging so I have an alternative to the exciter plug.
Thanks for the video! A couple of questions/ remarks: - on the Phat FX, wouldn't you rearrange the order at the bottom so the Bass Enhancer feeds into the Distortion module? - on the intersample peaks, I would add the AURoundTrip AAC after the Adaptive Limiter and before Multimeter since intersample peaks can occur with hard limiting even if the ceiling is set just below 0 (i.e. -0.1).
Awesome mate! So much great info for the layman to implement. Just finished mastering something of mine using this walk through and its the best result I've had yet. Thank you!

Listen at :50. Then jump to 20:55 and listen. Big difference. Great work.

I think this shows the true subtleness of mastering and how important your mix is to be able to get a good master.

- Cut off frequencies below 25 Hz
2. Graphic EQ:
- Output model: smooth
- Output: 3.0
- Tune: +4
- 20.2 kHz: +1.5 dB
- 10.1 kHz: +1.1 dB

- Frequencies above 15 kHz can produce dog-whistle sounds
- Zone 4 (highest frequency band) settings:
