THIS WAS SOOOOOOO HELPFUL THANK YOU omg literally all the vocal mixing videos in the world didnt help me and make it as simple as this ...down to every detail i needed! THANK UUU for the holy grail vid!
@@christopherbanda9788 mostly because beginners will mostly just throw plugins onto their vocals, not knowing how to edit these, so the effects will not fuck up your recording.
Finally someone who doesn’t talk random crap for 15min without actually saying anything or doing a shitty job in the end, well done, amazing video and I will definitely use your advices while mixing vocals! Saving this video so I can watch it again and try some of the stuff myself!
I have seen several videos and tutorials about mixing vocals, and this is the most refreshing and easy to catch up by far. Please consider to make one using only Logic stock plugins. Congratulations!!!
Yep she dropping the Jewel's 4 y'all. As soon as she said automate the vocals this became a very top quality video. Not many know about such a simple thing.
This video was extremely helpful and a very easy follow-along. For those who comp by splitting all of the takes by the same region instead of taking bits and pieces from each one the way that she did and struggle with getting all the comps from a puzzle to a full take. I finally figured out how to do it! You have to left-click, drag the blue box over the entire take you want to make into one (the top row with all the take splits), click the folder pop-up menu on any of the takes (2nd button on the take - the same one she used) and then click 'flatten and merge'. This will comp all your puzzle pieces into one full take 😉Thank me later!
I didn''t even know about Comp 😅 I was cutting my takes with the scissors, and once I was happy with my choices, I selected them all and clicked "Bounce in place" :) (worked wonders for me though ;))
I love how much to the point you are with a brief and very clear explanation for every part. Thank you! Other videos I watched seemed to rather focus on advertising various plugins than truly explaining what needs to be done 😅
This was a really good explanation As a singer I rebel at the idea of chopping up my vocals I prefer to try to get one take right But this is the better way to get a good overall performance on the track
After comping for many years - I now go for single takes (with the odd correction). Its far more dynamic and human and actually easier to recreate live (because of vocalists habits, etc). Sounds far less sterile :-)
Holy guaca, this was 12 minutes straight of high quality entertainment and straightforward tips. When you automated the volume, I thought "why aren't you just using a compressor for that instead?" But doing all that clean up and then running the compressor definitely leads to a much smoother and more natural vocal👌 Saving this to watch and rewatch later. Thanks! 👍👍👍
This video helped me so much. When you said you'd add frequencies back on to her voice.. I thought if I added frequencies back on a secondary eq I'd be undoing what I solved on my first eq.. So this opened up a world of possibilities and improvements for me!! I applied it to drum tracks and they sound fat and rich with mids and low mids added back in. Thank you!
At this point Ive seen so many editing videos that it is a shame, oh so shameful, that I'm still using my damn cell phone to record my vocals, but one day, yes, hear me out, one day I'm gonna have those expensive shure babies and then oh boy, Am I going to shine bright. The video was awesome btw, one of the best I've seen, you're funny and show exactly what is being done, this is gold =)
You’re amazing. This whole tutorial was so broadly applicable and I learned a ton! But I gotta poke fun. You go through all this trouble teaching us and leave the hissing in your video audio!
This is so impressive. The video is very informative and also funny at points which feels very good, this doesn’t feel like a lecture! Thank you very much for doing this from the very beginning and demonstrating all the steps with such clarity. As a young musician your channel helps me a lot! 😊
Had to stop mid video to show some love in the comments. This video is marvelous!!! Seamless workflow + humor = GREAT TUTORIAL; Kudos to the LANDR team. Liked and Subscribed.
The automation rides you did are post fadar, so it does not effect the signal going into the compressor, you must set logic to pre fadar for the automation rides to effect compressor
the way u edit the video is so cute, and I think this is a very impressive over-all tutorial, so easy to catch up. In comparison with some other tutorials on vocal mixing I have watched, yours is not thoroughly detailed but it is enough for me to figure out the general steps to start. Thanks so much from Vietnam
When you automate the volume of the lead vocals, does it create a more natural sound as opposed to skipping automation and relying only on compression? Also, when you're auto tuning the rap vocals, how can tell if spoken word/rap vocals are in the right key? I totally get it for singing, but cannot clearly hear it for rap vocals. Excellent toots. Thanks.
Super tutorial. 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻 If only I were so experienced! Everything looks so easy when you (I mean the woman) do it. The video about comping was also helpful. 👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻(I‘ve been watching it for the 3rd time now).
One suggestion on vocals, add a pre-delay before sending to your reverb. That way, the reverb return audio containing processed consonance and sibilance doesn't compete with the attack and jumbles up the performance's intelligibility with too much time-smear on the leading edge.
could you please tell me how to select pacific part from two different track ? It's time 1.58 seconds on your video ? thank you so much for this video , it's helpful
Interesting approach, it's possibly genre specific or just personal preference but I always do my volume automation dead last. That said I'm usually working with very dense mixes with the genres I mostly work with so heavy compression is usually step 1 which irons out the need for much detailed automation.

I second the stock plug-in idea! Especially because most of us who watch these may not be at a point we can justify spending money on plug-ins yet 😅
yea, this was about as plug and go as you can get. Comp, Eq, Compress, etc. etc.
All these principles apply regardless of what plug-ins are being used to achieve them.
Salute to the person that did this video editing.
