Man thank you for this real life testing of the nt300 and no one has been talking about this at all.. I’m definitely going to get this setup for my boat.
It will but maybe not as slow as speed 1 on my trolling motor...so if you want to creep the tm is better. I like the tm for bass fishing...running one from the bow is how I've always fished.
Have you encountered aquatic weeds with this motor, and how well did it do? Some of the best fishing is where there is pretty thick growth, so it is good to know if the motor just cut through them, or started to excessively vibrate or quite when fouled?
Use your same battery and motor to push a 2000 pound sailboat through flat water, 33-60 percent, ran about 6 hours before the beep of death. Neat little motor.
that is actually pretty impressive. I'm looking to put one on a bote rover aero. I fish the coast of southern california and would be in a 3-5 mile radius of launch. i don't mind cruising out there in kayak speed, because I fished a paddle kayak for years. I would be worried about range more than pure speed. but I do like that lithium batteries have a much smaller form factor than lead. maybe buy two batteries and keep them in a storage bin or something. newport's biggest battery is 40ah which I think is kinda small. wish they sold something bigger, but getting two might not be a bad option. that way I could high tail it out somewhere and know I've got gas to get home. it will some extra dollars though. thank you for this test. this is exactly what I've been trying to find to help decide between a gas and electric.
Hey Drew, when you show the boat running, I see some hydraulic action in the water at the very back , on the right side especially, that looks like significant drag on the boat. The water appears to be pushing forward on the back of the boat.
Been extremely happy with them. I've been using the 12v 100ah overlanding the last 7 weeks to run my 12v fridge and recharge all my electric needs (gopro, cellphone, headlamp etc)...keeping track of battery charge with bluetooth and recharging with my solar when needed. Couldn't be happier. Need more time with the 36v but I'm confident they're great too!
Good common sense info..do you know if operating it in cold temperatures would reduce the battery life..? If so by how much? I have a 11.5 square stern canoe I use for duck hunting in cold climates.
I use a LiFePO4 battery for hunting in WV from Nov-Jan (cold temps). Batteries have higher internal resistances at low temps, so it’ll definitely lose some capacity, but I’ve got enough reserve that I’ve never noticed it. Get a battery with a bluetooth BMS so you can see actual capacity using an app on your phone (Epoch and Roypower make nice batts with internal heaters). Keep your batt inside the night before you leave so it’s not cold soaked, as that will help.
To add more, LiFePO4 voltage curves are really flat, so you can’t reliably tell capacity from voltage. They basically have flat voltage from 90% to 10%, so if you wait to see a voltage drop you’re basically empty.

Can you troll very slowly with the Newport motor or do you need the minn kota for that?

Thanks for the video - this is a really informative and helpful test.👍🏻😊
Love the quality of your videos. What kind of go pro do you use? And what’s better / more comfortable when fishing? Head mount or chest mount?
Got this video talking about all that...ruclips.net/video/regqjxxm5eE/видео.html

Don't have much vegetation where I fish...mostly pads which I expect will be an issue...been an issue for my trolling motor and pedal kayak

Good to see you again
Drew, are you headed west this year? I enjoy your videos and learn much. Thanks, a want to be flyfisher.

Drew u need to do a san juan run in that boat ,ik u cant use motor but would be freakin epic !
Ive been eye balling these. I might hold off for the NT600. Im pretty much sold though.
Nice looking boat I’d love to hear more about it
Electric only lakes are a godsend for trout. Many lakes in BC were ruined by gas outboards, often devastating the travelling sedge hatch.
I know you're staying home this summer, but do you think you'll do a roadtrip this fall? I love your Driftless videos. Greetings from Iowa.

40V full charge is kind of unusual. Is this 11s battery?

Golly Drew you’re a hairy dude
I probably would have been if I didn’t suffer third degree burns to my lower body when I was in my early twenties
First
Trash motor. Biggest waste of $1000. Warranty is trash like the company that sells them. Cheap knockoffs
A knockoff of what brand?
