- XCOM 2 War of the Chosen Gameplay is here! This is episode 59 of our Let's Play XCOM 2 War of the Chosen. Work with The Reapers, The Skirmishers, and the Templars to take down the Assassin, the Warlock and the Hunter who represent the Chosen. Thanks to 2k for early access! There are two ways to join the character pool:
1) Leave a comment below with the soldier name/biography info and I will select random comments to be added into the game as needed! Due to the fact that I'm manually creating all characters, I will handle much of the visual look. If you want to leave a defining characteristic I will try to work that in.
2) I setup a Patreon tier here: / christopherodd If you choose to join through Patreon, you will have access to a special discord channel where you can submit a very detailed character build and you will be guaranteed added to the character pool!

I would really like it if Odd would rewatch some of his games. He would discover a lot of bad decisions that he makes that he otherwise would never be conscious of.
Rage, rage against the dying light.
I mean there was no way of knowing who's the Andromedon targeting. It could've launched a bomb to the grouped up guys beside the VIP. Or shoot at Langley. Or shoot at Falstro. Or punch either of them. But it chooses to tail Willie and beat him into a pulp.

Only Odd would have a 100% opportunity to daze every enemy for 2 turns and NEVER USE IT! God watching this is painful. Willy did NOT have to die.

Willy could have healed yourself, but he had healed a comrade. He put an ultimate sacriface to other could reach the freedoom,.. So brave man,.. R.I.P

Your Psi Op doesn't need sustaining sphere, he already has Sustain.

I dont think he can grab him tho. Hajek is right beside his corpse but when Chris scrolled to Hajek, there was no option to grab him. Maybe because of the Plasma Grenade? You know. Blown up.
Odd is the only person I know off that leaves an andromedon alone for 3 turns.
Very very poor choice. Those need to die ASAP.
I kept screaming internally: "TAKE CARE OF THE DAMN ANDROMEDDON!" You even ignored the hack to disorientate the enemies. And now it costed you.
I thought Bradford's comment was savage...then Shen chimed in, ouch...too soon, too soon.

Log: Klaus Werner "Scorch"
Entry 48
It’s a dark dawn on the Avenger, and it seems to be growing ever darker. Willy didn’t make it back this time. 4-20 is blaming himself, but I know he shouldn’t. If it wasn’t for the damned lighteater, they wouldn’t have been held up. Willy’s life is on his crown. And i’m going to carve his name into his corpse.
His death has not helped my thoughts being stuck on Frost. I decided to tell 4-20 and Outrider about how I met her. We were both kids, i was nine and she was eight. It was year nine of the Invasion. We were both born in a resistance camp in what used to be called Germany. Our famillies… didn’t get along. The Werner’s were native to Germany, but the Durand’s were from Poland. We.. weren’t really allowed to talk to each other for most of our lives. Then… the Aliens came. This was before Xcom started operating… so it wasn’t long before the camp was nothing but rubble. The only person I could find was Annette, and she was pinned beneath a Mec. I stayed with her for a few days, though i’m not sure why. I should have ran, saved myself. When the Templars came across the ruins, we were both starving and hadn’t drank anything in a day or two. I don’t even remember if either of us talked. The Templars saved us, and gave us purpose. We shared a room in the Temple. It was awkward for a while, but I think we both just… became comfortable with it. We dedicated ourselves to the Order, pledging to become Templars ourselves. And look where that’s gotten us… one f us is flying around the planet in some kind of suicide squad while the other gets critically injured in a routine op…
They started tearing apart that Viper King. They were saying something about making armor out of it. They said it’s scales were lightweight enough to be used in our light frames, but resilient enough to be truly be effective as armor.
We found our way into the Lighteater’s ascension facility. They’ve named the assault of it “Operation Hell God”. It seemed fitting, they said. The strike won’t be long away now. We were on approach last time I checked. Solomon is also on his first mission. Dragon is dressed up like some sort of parade float, in that new Serpent Suit, but I guess it’s intimidating enough. Apparently I’m not coming along, and that makes me want to tear out a bulkhead. That monster has killed by brothers and sisters for as long as I can remember. I’m not going to be happy until I hear his neckbones snap under my fingers.

(I'm disappointed Odd... after putting off the mission for the express purpose of healing Scorch, you don't even remember to talk about him? I understand that the Reapers with their Banish is downright broken, but you're not even going to try and use the actual, intended tactical value of bringing along a Templar? Makes me feel like you've kind of forgotten about me...)

Well he frequently forgets Zaio is a man not a woman...so forgetting to take full advantage of the warlock's weaknesses is little surprise to me.
by the way, Darkwood, I think, was Willy's bondmate. you might want to look into that when making your next log
There's also this thing where the Warlock has the ability to reveal concealed units. so odd bringing the 2 reapers would get them instantly revealed. It'd be kinda funny if odd messed up coz of that (not nice) and Klaus just badmouths the commander
One problem is reapers rely on stealth to get into position and scout...so the warlock will probably focus them down based on their stats...the A.I will know what he's planning as it's entirely predictable. Klaus on the other hand would be very difficult to counter thanks to his invert and exchange abilities aside from Perry and pillar, then on top of that he has the stacking melee damage which can't miss even with the warlock's defense buff, so if banish were to wiff or the reapers be locked down, Klaus could still cause some serious pain.
That's some phenomenal effort with that full log. Nicely done.

Did anybody else notice the glitch in which you extract the VIP but Bradford says you lost the package? Yeah that just happened, the game registered it as Chris killing the target and so if you saw he only got the supplies for the mission not the intel reward.
I think that andromedon just really wanted to fire at will...

My goodness, I was literally talking to my screen on this one: "The Warlock has Regeneration and Low Profile, just focus on the troopers in your face first! He's just gonna send zombies after you, who cares? Kill the damn Andromedon that's in melee range of your troops!"

There's a weird bug when you extract last with the soldier carrying the vip, it will show as if you killed the vip and therefore failed to extract him. That's why you didn't get the intel from the mission. I think you didn't notice that, so be cautious next time.
Especially after trying to keep the VIP alive the whole time, I bet if he just blew her up then Willy would of lived

I (Martinez) saw a giant cannon and Willie saw a giant fist. And in both missions chosen showed up.
Why not taking Klaus???? He dominated in the missions with the other 2 chosen + he is the adversary of the warlock and with parry he can hit him twice per turn.

Kim Jespersgaard Glad I wasn't the only one to notice. Bring a bunch of rangers and didn't bring their most powerful weapons. So confused.
I don't understand why you didn't use the hack. Even if it didn't work on the Warlock, it would've given you a HUGE advantage against the other guys. Instead you just kinda let all those aliens have the run of the place out of fear that the stun wouldn't work on one dude.

A few notes:
1. PLEASE remember to upgrade the Viper suit before you start the Warlock fortress assault!
2. The Warlock is an almost purely psionic entity, it MAY be prudent to consider taking a mind shield or two to completely negate his psionic effects on the respective soldier(s) in question.
3. In general, you really should focus more on getting bondmates out in the field together, so you actually benefit from their bonds.
There are so many good bonuses you are throwing to the wind when you split bondmates between field and barracks.
Like the level 2 bond adjacency bonus that removes ALL negative mental effects on BOTH bondmates provided they stand adjacent to one another, which will be BEAST against an enemy like the Warlock.

The gear is too important to lose, especially in the early stages of the game.
No, but there was no remaining threats, so leaving the gear behind serves no purpose. Now he has to replace that gear that could have easily been saved.
Might be better to bring Werner than a second Reaper. Outside of Banish, the Reapers don't really have great damage output. If you look at this team, you're basically relying on Darkwood to do almost all of the heavy damage. Werner would bring some much-needed additional damage, you've seen how useful he was on both previous stronghold missions, and this Chosen is weak against him.

Not sure whether you have the resources since you did not have them for all weapons, but you might want to look into upgrading the Serpent Suit as well. The upgrade was listed as available the moment you finished it. ;)

I think Odd "knows" that if he'd used that 2 turn daze everything turned out well :P most likely the warlock would not cast his shenanigans also. But yea... I dont know why Odd always ignores the hack benefits on 100% :') (like disable, disorient, stun, etc)
after the warlock appeared you Kind of panicked because you didnt know what he could do and started focusing him, i feel like that andromedon should have been way higher on your priority list, also im a Little concerned about solomon only having 46 will

Because Odd keeps his soldiers to close together, I now know Mindscorch can chain targets. I have never had my soldiers close enough for that to happen while mindscorch wasn't on cooldown, so this is news to me.
Don't forget to bring Scorch! He is the nemesis of the warlock so extra damage and whatnot. Plus he is pretty beast regardless
use more bonds on convert actions, you gain a bonus of time this way.

Remember you can upgrade the serpent armor at engineering, I strongly advise you to do so before going on your next mission to kill the Warlock!

2 things.
1. Why didn't you recover willy's body in order to get he's equipment.
2. The game didn't give you the intel reward. Both Bradford and the council spokesmen acted as though you killed him.

It's a bug. If you evac with an objective on the last turn, the game thinks you never brought it.
I wonder if hacking the tower when you had the chance, could have prevented the casualty, Commander Odd. Poor Orange, he will be missed.

There is a bug for capturing a vip mission. The soldier who carry the vip should not be the last to get on the bird. The vip will be judged as killed in the mission instead of successfully bring back to the avernger

The warlock looks like he attacks from a distance so Klaus's enemy switch move as well as his extra damage so maybe bring him along.

Don't forget War Suit with Blaster Bomb... Extra damage to explosives... Plus that last stronghold you had the perfect Blaster Bomb for 8 enemies.

Hello! Just a reminder that the Warlock is vulnerable to Templars; Klaus would be a valuable asset in the assault on his Stronghold.

It's kinda painful watching that Andromedon wrecking more havoc than Warlock.... and gets ignored for turns.
Before you go after the Warlock you should consider that since he mostly uses psi abilities to attack, if you bring a flash bang you could possibly force him to only be able to use his gun, and if that's all he could use it might actually save someone
Unfortunately my xbox broke before I got the game so I haven't been able to play but from these videos I haven't seen anyone try flashbangs on him
The warlock is indeed immune to the Flash bang, I learned that the hard way...
Ah well I guess I shouldn't be surprised about that
