@@deskseven well the lines are only in the 'dynamic' version of the icons which were only used in promotional material (simplified versions were used for the actual games) Also, the lines are meant to reference the London Underground maps, so that's cool

The Beijing 2008 logo oozed simplicity, athletic essence, and the Olympic spirit! It also reminds me of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Wii. The Vancouver 2010 logo gives me feels for that year and for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games.

sydney 2000, their bid logo represented an outline of the opera house using the olympic rings colors. at close look, the rings colors in this outline are fused together incorporatng the "dots" used in aboriginal art. simple. brilliant. the promotional banners, bunting, used citywide throughout the bidding phase, outshines their official games mark & look of the '00 games.
beijing'08. personally, the candidate phase, calligraphic swirl in motion, had more going for it than the official mark.
london 2012, again using the olympic rings colors- albeit basic, the representation of the thames flowing through london, i'll take this over the chunky, static play on "2012" created for the games mark.
sochi'14, pyeongchang '18- no contest. candidate phase designs over official marks.
LA'28 eh, i'll take the purple angel dismounting from the balance beam, vs the type heavy official mark. some of the "A's" used in this design are...interesting. others, well...the "varsity" A?, the "retro '84" A?, the "street food" A?
aye aye aye. from a distance, this logo is tough to read..LZ8? LAtwitt??
ps, some of the non-winning candidate logos are well designed.
