- John Farnham performs You're The Voice at the Whispering Jack concert from 1987.
Recorded live at the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre, Melbourne in March 1987 and was broadcast on national TV. An edited VHS version (100 min) was released later in 1987. An edited DVD version (68 min) was included on the 20th Anniversary re-release of Whispering Jack on 25 November 2006.
You're The Voice was released in 1986 on the Whispering Jack album. It reached #1 on the Kent Music Report.

Everytime I ear that song, I'm crying. This man was about to live on the street and he bet his life with that song. He was sooo right. He owns that song. No cover will touch it. A stadium song, like Queen would produce.
The only person I have seen come close was Mitch Tambo an Aboriginal singer, he sang in his language and it was wow. And I think he sang it with John at one point now that was magic.
I saw John live on stage in Melbourne late 1980s he was brilliant.
@@kimwallace5729 Agree re Tambo - but did u know Queen asked John to be their lead singer when Freddie Mercury died? John decided his family were more important (Queen do crucifying world tours). Farnham makes me proud. In so many ways. And the best voice in the world.
Germany got talent. Older Singer called Dan Lucas. Been singing for years. No, it wasn't John singing it, but Dan gave it the same energy and I loved it. But john will alwsys be my favourite. Goosebumps, spine tingles every single time. I've seen some videos of choirs singing this. One choir absolutely murdered it, it was tragic. Aug'24. UK. E❤

John is one of a kind! An Aussie icon and the pride of our nation. Who else would give up worldwide stardom to stay in his own country with his family? Even in his 70’s he was a force to be reckoned with. He is our heart and we pray for his recovery from cancer every day! ❤❤❤

I never knew he had cancer so I hope he makes a full recovery but since the covid injections cancer rates have rocketed and some scientists are calling them turbo cancers but as ever mainstream media blank it.
So sad to hear of his terrible battle with cancer. I’m Irish and concur he is a legend in his own time and Your the Voice is a fitting anthem of our time.
John did try to break into the UK market, it didn’t work out.

I saw him twice live, I will never forget, I cried during Your the Voice both times, I hope he lives to 200 years and inspires a new generation of people around all the world to fight tyranny, oppression and destruction of freedom. I miss the days when they used to put concerts like this on TV. And they would simulcast the audio on the radio as well. Being back the 80s! Live streaming is nowhere near as exciting.

This has been my favourite version of song and I have watched all his shows I can find . Of course they are all great . There is something very special about his voice , the song , the kids, and of course the bagpipes . Thanks I love it .

@Ian Thompson I know jf was born in dagenham, the 145 bus from Leytonstone (where I live) in London serve the area but that doesn't change the fact that bagpipes are a Scottish instrument and a Scottish influence on the song

Many years ago I was with the St.John Ambulance Operations Branch contingent that volunteered to care for the stadium crowd during a John Farnham concert. I had been at work all day, changed in St. John uniform and now with some of the others grabbing a quick dinner in the back stage cafe. In came John and some of the musicians. On their way out John kindly stopped by our table and chatted briefly. It was a wonderful night to remember.
Magnificent...and only "11 years ago"🤣.....was washing the car in the driveway with the radio on in 1986, and on came this 'new' song on the local station........totally a smash, everlasting hit from the start. The 'man' is the 'voice' and the song is known, and sung loud and proud by ANY crowd in what ever and where ever venue. One of my faves is when JF popped up at the Sound Relief concert 2009 ( Black Saturday Vic bushfire and Qld flood appeal ) on stage with Coldplay....had not seen him perform for such a long time and you could just see the expression on his face when he realised the CROWD had not forgotten him at all and "You're the Voice" is a relevant song lyric forever.👌👌💕💕....just have to look at his forever keyboard player Chong Lims face to see the 'agree'....😁😁

I recorded this concert off the TV back in 1988, and watched the tape repeatedly until it wouldn’t play any more... I truly think this is one of the most amazing concerts he ever did and considering he is master of live performance, I know that’s a big call... but there is something special about this one... what a legend!!

Who else discovered this song from the Merlin BTS videos? Seeing Bradley and Colin sing this was awesome, this was even better. Such a powerful song, sung by a very talented man. I wish I had found this back in the early 90's it is the best power ballad I have ever heard.
