My husband and I fell in love to AN INNOCENT MAN. The entire album. He brought it to my apartment for a Christmas party and we danced to every cut and he sang every word to me. We married in 1985, and we heard this song on our first anniversary a year later and said, he's done it again--this is us. Still is.
My parents were teenagers during that time and they introduced me and my sister's to the music and movies from it including the Breakfast Club, Footloose and etc etc and we love it.
I miss this song. Sometimes it plays in my head for hours out of the days work. Seems like an anthem of every year, every decade and the lonely heart's club.

You can't be down, sad, upset with a song like this playing. Always makes me happy and I suffer greatly from PTSD, depression, and anxiety, yet this song (and music of this period) click the happy button in my head and heart. Real music, real instruments -- that's the key I believe. That's just me.
This kind of music massively helps with my depression and anxiety too. I also am from Long Island so Billy is our big hero here. Makes me love the music even more
Well i wouldnt say reading music is a must. Paul McCartney never learned to read sheet, but i would still call him a musician. Also Billy has said that he cant actually remember how to read sheet anymore. But generally i agree, one hell of a singer/player/writer!
My 18 loves 80s music. Even loves my 9 year old loves some. Before The Mummies came out. She got introduced to Walk Like An Egyptian. She still loves singing and dancing to it.
Great lyricist.. chrous or no chorus, the guy is incredibly talented by any measure. Started as the piano man, but proved he could adjust to any configuration and still be successful. One of the best to ever do it.
I love everything about this video! The lyrics are under appreciated. "A Matter Of Trust" Some love is just a lie of the heart The cold remains of what began with a passionate start And they may not want it to end But it will it's just a question of when I've lived long enough to have learned The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned But that won't happen to us Because it's always been a matter of trust I know you're an emotional girl It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world I can't offer you proof But you're going to face a moment of truth It's hard when you're always afraid You just recover when another belief is betrayed So break my heart if you must It's a matter of trust You can't go the distance With too much resistance I know you have doubts But for God's sake don't shut me out This time you've got nothing to lose You can take it, you can leave it Whatever you choose I won't hold back anything And I'll walk a way a fool or a king Some love is just a lie of the mind It's make believe until its only a matter of time And some might have learned to adjust But then it never was a matter of trust I'm sure you're aware love We've both had our share of Believing too long When the whole situation was wrong Some love is just a lie of the soul A constant battle for the ultimate state of control After you've heard lie upon lie There can hardly be a question of why Some love is just a lie of the heart The cold remains of what began with a passionate start But that can't happen to us Because it's always been a matter of trust
What I love about this song just the magic of people being happy and feeling the freedom of nothing of what we can feel people just don't have that anymore
I agree and it breaks my heart for my young daughter. I can describe to her all the adventures of the distant past, and what life was like before being so connected to our phones, technology, etc. We watch movies of the decades past, but I think music is what truly translates how wonderful it was back then, and with music she can still experience some of what I had as a kid in the 80s/90s. Just as I got to experience my mother's music of her growing up in the ,60s 70s. Music is a wonderful thing. And billy Joel, buddy Holly, just a few of the great representations of their respective decades.
“I’ve lived long enough to have learned, the closer you get to the fire the more you get burned...” is sort of a nuanced line that was executed perfectly - vintage ‘80s
This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. Say what you want about the man, but he writes great songs. He's also an amazing performer. This is a rockin' video, with New York looking fantastic.
Really talented musicians/composers and their art are not bound to time and space. Just think of Mozart, Liszt, Beethoven and how "old" their work of art is... really inspired stuff is made for eternity.

Shows the positive power of music over people. His voice was perfect and how good we all looked in our youth. Getting old SUCKS - your looks go first and your body soon follows. ENJOY YOUR YOUTH - you only get one, and it's gone way too soon!
Its so good that musical geniuses start to share their talents with people at large, just to add a little speck of happiness and enjoyment in this world of ours. Even when it finally boils down to a smart marketing move.
it sure was god help our ancestors the last 3 generations have left this world worst off not like the ones before us going back 250yrs starting with us baby boomers 1945 to 1960 and each one got worse the selfish bastards that most of us are they all belong in hell thinking not only will I not be alive but so won't my grand kids great way to think fuck all them we got ours but I believe in our god and they will all suffer for internity

This song is so much deeper than it seems. Billy is singing to my soul, my life story, my heart, my mind. His talent is beyond comparison. He gets it. He just gets it. This thing we call life
Describes me and my ex relationship.... we heard together near the end of it and it made us realize we're better off friends ..speaks so many truths...❤
I am asked what individual or group is the best of my generation, and I whittle it down to the top 5, and then Billy Joel comes out on top. Put everything together, what he has done and the layers of music he has created, and he is the best. There are many other great ones, but Joel is the best.
It’s like classical music once the song starts you already know where it’s going to go but you still find it original. Obvious but I still like the Billy thing.

Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire, the more you get burned
But that won't happen to us
'Cause it's always been a matter of trust
Now I know you're an emotional girl
It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world
Well, I can't offer you proof
But you're gonna face a moment of truth
It's hard when you're always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So break my heart if you must
It's a matter of trust
You can't go the distance
With too much resistance
I know you have doubts
But for God's sake, don't shut me out
This time you've got nothing to lose
You can take it, you can leave it, whatever you choose
I won't hold back anything
And I'll walk a way a fool or a king
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It's make-believe until it's only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust
I'm sure you're aware, love
We've both had our share of
Believing too long
When the whole situation was wrong
Some love is just a lie of the soul
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control
After you've heard lie upon lie
There can hardly be a question of why
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
But that can't happen to us
'Cause it's always been a matter of trust

He’s the best as I can say cos he got a lot of great song as am so down is underrated … Hi Kim
My husband and I fell in love to AN INNOCENT MAN. The entire album. He brought it to my apartment for a Christmas party and we danced to every cut and he sang every word to me. We married in 1985, and we heard this song on our first anniversary a year later and said, he's done it again--this is us.
Still is.
❤ 70s/80s were the best years to me. ¹ Kids today will never experience the simple way of fun 😮😂✌🏻
🙁
My parents were teenagers during that time and they introduced me and my sister's to the music and movies from it including the Breakfast Club, Footloose and etc etc and we love it.
Thanks for your comments and support
People who had to adult through the 70's and 80's likely don't remember them as "a simple way of fun".

Yeap. Actually read music.
Well i wouldnt say reading music is a must. Paul McCartney never learned to read sheet, but i would still call him a musician. Also Billy has said that he cant actually remember how to read sheet anymore. But generally i agree, one hell of a singer/player/writer!

"A Matter Of Trust"
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
And they may not want it to end
But it will it's just a question of when
I've lived long enough to have learned
The closer you get to the fire the more you get burned
But that won't happen to us
Because it's always been a matter of trust
I know you're an emotional girl
It took a lot for you to not lose your faith in this world
I can't offer you proof
But you're going to face a moment of truth
It's hard when you're always afraid
You just recover when another belief is betrayed
So break my heart if you must
It's a matter of trust
You can't go the distance
With too much resistance
I know you have doubts
But for God's sake don't shut me out
This time you've got nothing to lose
You can take it, you can leave it
Whatever you choose
I won't hold back anything
And I'll walk a way a fool or a king
Some love is just a lie of the mind
It's make believe until its only a matter of time
And some might have learned to adjust
But then it never was a matter of trust
I'm sure you're aware love
We've both had our share of
Believing too long
When the whole situation was wrong
Some love is just a lie of the soul
A constant battle for the ultimate state of control
After you've heard lie upon lie
There can hardly be a question of why
Some love is just a lie of the heart
The cold remains of what began with a passionate start
But that can't happen to us
Because it's always been a matter of trust
So sweet as I can say Kathleen. Hello Dear
Thank you!
Thank you!!
