You are such a beautiful man John Farnham...the world is a better place with you in it, please stay with us a little bit longer even if you don't sing to us again. We love you very much xxx
As part of my grieving process for recent death of my Domestic Violence Perpetrator Father, I have just sung this, at the top of my BLEEPING lungs. Cheaper than any therapy session I have ever attended. Apologies to the neighbours. Finally, I can live in peace.
Hi. Very emotional words from you. I do hope you are still doing well? And enjoying Farnsey! I always go to John if a day gets a bit bothersome, he just makes me so happy. May '24. UK. E ❤
This man is the holy grale when it comes to singing. He is one of the best male Singer to have walk the earth. Simply amazing. What He delivers is pure Magic.
I have watched this 1 video at least 100 times in just a week or so.. you are spot on... everything he sings hits you in your soul.. and dear Holy Lord THAT VOICE!!❤❤❤
I was a little kid and he came to Griffith - my birth place, and I adored him so my mum drove me into where he was staying and I had an opportunity to meet him but I was far too shy... I do regret not being brave enough Love him!! I'm now 43 😊
He is amazing and he has a period of almost perfection when he sings “help” or “when the war is over” it might have been mid 80s to mid 90s whispering lack era, Freddie is also unique he’s “Hamer to fall” at live aid is perfect but BUT Australia had a bloke he was a born entertainer not just a singer who started great with songs like original sin, never tear us apart, etc who put on a performance at Wembley stadium that will never be forgotten confirming at the time INXS was the greatest band in the world! New Sensation is perfect and the massive crowd become one giant organism all linked and moving in sync, it was like the butterfly effect Wembley stadium was moving, my vote for best live performances ever from a local boy who the world loved. AC/DC are similar but Angus is the performer 22 minutes to start jailbreak lol watch new sensation at wemberly
John just blows any other singer away. The power of his voice, the range through octaves, the warmth of his expression, makes him the best singer in Pop, Rock n Roll, R&B, Soul and even Classic songs. He can make a Christmas song sound awesome. No one sings like John.
Are you kidding? I'm 57 and I'm crying as much as you are. I saw the original release of this song with Chisel, and it was powerful back then, the emotions, the raw power of Barnesy, but now (as someone else has said) this song has outlived its creator, in emotion, in impact, in potency, in relevance and art. And Farnham takes it to the level above.
OUTSTANDING VOCALS!! This is by far his best version of this song. He doesn’t miss a note, no blow outs on the top range and the passion!. What a voice! Fantastic performance!
This Man is the ultimate performer. He is not full of himself. He will acknowledge his fans and engage the audience to join in during his songs. He will acknowledge his backups. And just watch the difference in ages of his fans, he appeals to all. I have watched him from his days with LRB, his intensity is unimaginable. Yes there's the Beatles, Rolling Stones and countless other performers, BUT they will NEVER hold a candle to what he has accomplished over the years. He is Australia's treasure. Pure joy to listen to
John Farnham just makes you feel really good about everything. I love how he shouted out his long-time backing singer Lisa Edwards, having just given birth.
There has never been a man like this and there never will be again. As a vocalist he is the best ever. His phrasing and musicality is incredible and he no doubt has relative perfect pitch. But what I think makes him the most amazing artist of my generation is not what he can do, but who he is.
One of the very very best singers ever. I can't help being in awe every time I listen to this man sing. What a voice.Blows me away every single time.Out of this world.I'll be a fan as long as I live.Love & respect all the way from South Africa.👌👍🙏
Still get chills from the talent of this man. The control, ease, light and shade, depth and perfect pitch makes John the envy of all singers- no wonder he can take his listeners to places they've never been before. Seeing him in concert is a privilege.
From the USA I 1000000000% agree the only singer I've ever heard that is as good or better than Steve Perry.. they are both "The Voice"❤❤..... but John never lost that upper range❤.. At one time, even into my late 40's, I sang several of his or LRB songs, some Steve Perry, Lou Gramm and such but sadly between smoking, drinking and vocal abuse my upper range just isn't there, but John never had that issue... his voice has always been amazingly strong❤
@txtamaman all is not lost. I had my vocal cords severely damaged by intubation during covid for one month in a coma. Couldn't talk let alone sing. But thanks to vocal therapy I'm about 80% of where I hope to be. You can improve.
wow - and why haven't i seen this before now. as an Aussie living in the middle east for the last 8 years and listening to the poingnancy of the words - brings a tear to my eye. Farnham, i remember you as a kid stuck in ward 8 west of Royal Childrens Hospital on the ward radio, on Hey Hey Its Saturday when Tom Jones (a fellow welshman) praised you as one of the greatest voices in the world, and yet you stayed Australia's treasure....am humbled!!
Best vocalist of all time. My kids and their kids will know of John Farnhams immensely powerful and emotional voice, and the amazing songs he used it in.
geez some people can be so negative.. I remember John saying in an interview once "that the easiest thing in the world is to bag someone" and remember Farnham said that he was never going to retire...just gunna come to you from a different angle, The man is bloody brilliant, their should be more John Farnham's in the world and then the war would really be over!
There you are world, that's the best there is , the best there is anywhere. Rock, pop, ballads, this man sings them all , better than anyone else on the planet.
John Farnham is Australias greatest legend with one of the greatest voices to ever come out of Australia singing one of our greatest classic songs luv it luv u John Farnham what a legend
Absolute magic, a difference between him and say the bee gees and even Mel Gibson is they all grew up in oz. but unlike john they went back to their native countries to enlarge on their fame and fortune, and am not knocking that, just look at their success, which was nurtured here in oz. John was happy to be just a success here in oz, which says it all. Top bloke.
Brilliant rendition of a gr8 song. Renee Geyer is another Aussie who has the musicality that Johnny has. ty for reminding me how great a singer is Farnham. x
Yes yes love this guy seen him in New Zealand with U2 ..liked him better and he was just the opening act.. In the 70s ..seems like yesterday to me..great memories for an outstanding performer...and a voice to match...thankyou...John for the memories ..God bless..
I saw this concert when it was live telecast on the night. I've got it on DVD. I've seen this particular clip multiple times both here and on reaction channels. And only just realised that it was Kate Ceberano sitting behind Lisa.
Watching this in 2024 from New Zealand. Thank you John for another exceptional performance of this song. Loved all your music over the many years since we first saw you in Napier NZ in the 1970's
I never heard of this man until a Tom Jones duet came on my timeline, I grew up with Michael Jackson, he could sing, however I rate this man's ability up there with the best, this is a phenomenal performance which puts him in the best singing voices on the planet
Awesome! What an incredible talent is John, vocal range and power! Amazing! RIP LJ Mac Lennan died in Vietnam 1971 aged 21. Buried Keilor Cemetery. I Just cant get enough of this AUSTRALIAN LEGEND
Arent we lucky to have John as our Icon I love John and his songs could sing to them all day Awesome! What an incredible talent is John, vocal range and power! Amazing!
What a great personality he seems to have. I hope this is him off stage as well as in front of cameras and people. What a fun great guy. I could listen to him day and night.
I heard your the first time walking down the street in Seymour Victoria. You were singing Sadie. Not one,NOT ONE, single song you have performed since has disappointed me. YOU ARE THE BEST.
this is my all time favorite singer,he is outstanding in every way,and this song is one of the best i have ever heard,he should be in the hall of fame,he is 53 at the time and sings notes that are humanly impossible even fore guy in his early 20th..
Thank U very much, Bruce, for this fantastic singer and a wonderful ballad. I have met many wellknown singers through my work in the Norwegian TV, but John Farnham is really a personality I would have loved to meet !!! Best wishes from Norway !!!
My acoustic duo partner and I went to his gig last week and he is still absolutely amazing. We both grew up listening to him as our mum's were huge fans and he is one of the best vocalists ever to come out of Australia. Brilliant, love Farnsey! :-)
One of the best performances of all time in my opinion. Goosebumps all the way through. When he hits that third verse! Wow, just Wow! 💗💗💗💗this man. Best version of this song in my opinion!
WTF is wrong with the 86 people who gave this a thumbs down? Seriously? Fun banter, followed by proof that he is the greatest living male pop vocalist. You people must be tone deaf.
John Farnham- much beloved son of Australia. This song was used to a poignant film clip from the Ukraine war- I play it often and do have tears for the emotion it brings. Thank you so much for ALL the beauty you have bought us John, be well. *Been to many concerts. CY of SA.
I saw a comment by a David Wright "that suit doesn't look tailored" Really?? Who cares if it isn't. Do you go to, or watch a concert to look at their fashion or do you go there, or watch and listen to the performers?? Yes he has said he is retiring a few times, So What? If he is up to it, if he gets the crowds and can continue to sing this well, So what let him perform. A voice like that for a bloke of his age... I defy anyone to do better at his age!
Nothing wrong with retiring and coming back. I do it most years playing Cricket. My club calls me Johnny Farnham. No one believes me anymore but aches and pains and all saddling up again in October for my 45th year at my club. He is a true Legend and hope he keeps going so long as his health lets him!
John Farnham is definately one of the best, if not the best singer australia currently has in both tone and power! He is one of the only performers I have seen scare the sound tech off their seat with a note so powerful his mic was at an arms length!! Listen at 7:07! Power and emotion :'D
I have had a good share of success as pro singer/artist, and sang to many thousands. And through the years I would find myself being critical at times about other artists about their live vocal performamces (as i got older, i stopped being such a dick). But I will say this, and in all honesty, if had another 100 years of solid practice vocalising, I would NEVER sound as good as John Farnham. One of the most amazing soulful voices I have ever heard. And a range to die for. God bless John. Talent in its purest form..
I have been a fan of JF since I was first introduced to him in LRB and this song was one of my favourite songs by LRB but I have to say this live performance of this has blown me away. I am amazed by this man's talent. What a song! What a voice!
MRDARKTURKEY I listened to the Cold Chisel version. It's a nice version of the song. I read they did it in 1982. It was on LRB's album, No Reins, in 1986.
One thing you might know that all these other comments don’t is Glenn Shorrocks voice, Glenn Fry from the Eagles watched him sing cool change live, he cried & stated it was the best voice he’d ever heard, John had competition.
Awesome guitar run in the middle at 5:58. Vocal run by John Farnham is amazing from 6:50 to 7:50. I wish he'd try LRB's "We Two" in later years. That'd be great to see again.
Probably because John mentioned that the song was written by Steve Prestwich. I think When the War is Over is the only song John sings that Prestwich wrote.
Thankyou so very much for putting this video on, i was there the concert was fantastic, but then again it's John Farnham why wouldn t it be, he has truely a beautiful and electifying voice, it's one in a million and i love the fact that some many people of all ages love him. I love to hear him sing and watch him entertain. This age of music need to take a leaf from his book, that's real music...That's the stuff that brings tears to your eyes and goose bumps all over..
You are such a beautiful man John Farnham...the world is a better place with you in it, please stay with us a little bit longer even if you don't sing to us again. We love you very much xxx

A lot of people can argue but John Farnham was and is the best on stage performer not just Australia, but the world has listen to it seen
I agree with that one . I saw him countless times
I was a little kid and he came to Griffith - my birth place, and I adored him so my mum drove me into where he was staying and I had an opportunity to meet him but I was far too shy...
I do regret not being brave enough
Love him!! I'm now 43 😊
She is the most versatile wonderful art I've ever heard I play drums I would be blessed to play with him
He is amazing and he has a period of almost perfection when he sings “help” or “when the war is over” it might have been mid 80s to mid 90s whispering lack era, Freddie is also unique he’s “Hamer to fall” at live aid is perfect but BUT Australia had a bloke he was a born entertainer not just a singer who started great with songs like original sin, never tear us apart, etc who put on a performance at Wembley stadium that will never be forgotten confirming at the time INXS was the greatest band in the world! Yeah but he doesn't wear bling and pose alot , plus he doesn't have a million tattoos
John just blows any other singer away. The power of his voice, the range through octaves, the warmth of his expression, makes him the best singer in Pop, Rock n Roll, R&B, Soul and even Classic songs. He can make a Christmas song sound awesome. No one sings like John.
10 months, 10 years, 10 decades. No-one will argue with that
As a 25 yr old male i just cried...this guy emoted something from me through his voice so powerful that makes him such a freakin amazing legend!
impressiveinstant86 31 actually
@@kory6313 No still 25... he died after making that comment
@@thegoldenbra that’s fair
Hunny at 36 can you still feel it - I am 38 still chills
Are you kidding? I'm 57 and I'm crying as much as you are.
I saw the original release of this song with Chisel, and it was powerful back then, the emotions, the raw power of Barnesy, but now (as someone else has said) this song has outlived its creator, in emotion, in impact, in potency, in relevance and art. And Farnham takes it to the level above.
And that Ladies and Gentlemen, is why he is "The Voice"
That he is and always will be 😉🇦🇺❤️
He's our Man, Makes me cry with his true emotion, Glory to God Man :-)
♥️🇩🇪🇦🇺
Those notes!!! Amazing, pitch perfect, even belting he never misses a note. This is the best version he has ever done. Loved it!
OUTSTANDING VOCALS!!
This is by far his best version of this song. He doesn’t miss a note, no blow outs on the top range and the passion!.
What a voice!
Fantastic performance!
Surrounded by Australia's greatest musicians and singers, John will always put on the BEST stage shows imaginable.
I remember John Farnham years ago in a New Zealand telethon. He gave his heart and soul to that show. He is really is a true profesional performer.
John blows this song away! It is hard to believe that he can sing like that after all these years. What a powerful voice!
I agree. I really think Farnham's version of this song is the best, even better than the original version by Cold Chisel.
John Farnham is Australia's best male vocalist of all time.
Kevin Jones hes pretty special cant think of anyone who can come close. maybe a guy sebastion or barnsey.
I believe they dont come close on the high notes.
This is nothing compared to his live version in '87 when Johns voice was at its best. I think its was from his Whispering jack concert.
So you have never seen Billy Thorpe.
Kevin Jones The world's best male vocalist of all time*
Michael Jackson was debatably on par, but I prefer Farnhams voice.
John Farnham just makes you feel really good about everything.
I love how he shouted out his long-time backing singer Lisa Edwards, having just given birth.
Oh I thought Lisa was his wife but now I know it’s his back up singer lol
6:49 F**KING CHILLS. HOLY S**T.
I forgot just how amazing this performance was. John Farnham, we’ll always love you as one of the greats! 😭❤️
There has never been a man like this and there never will be again. As a vocalist he is the best ever. His phrasing and musicality is incredible and he no doubt has relative perfect pitch. But what I think makes him the most amazing artist of my generation is not what he can do, but who he is.
Freddie Mercury?
@1philliph Even Freddie Mercury thought John was an incredible vocalist.
Just that voice! Wow! It’s November 2021 and I’m just hearing of this artist! Wow! Just wow!
Listen to his live
Version of Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra…absolutely stunning and moving. 🎶
One of the very very best singers ever. I can't help being in awe every time I listen to this man sing. What a voice.Blows me away every single time.Out of this world.I'll be a fan as long as I live.Love & respect all the way from South Africa.👌👍🙏
The world needs this more than ever right now.
Still get chills from the talent of this man. The control, ease, light and shade, depth and perfect pitch makes John the envy of all singers- no wonder he can take his listeners to places they've never been before. Seeing him in concert is a privilege.
the note on 6:56 is outstanding, the control, power, and craftsmanship of this guys voice is up there with the best you will ever hear in your life
A song that has now outlived its creator. Thank you Steve Prestwich. You'll live forever in what you've given us with your music.
Greatest vocalist ever. As a singer myself I stand in awe, admiration and a little envy. In a good way.
From the USA I 1000000000% agree the only singer I've ever heard that is as good or better than Steve Perry.. they are both "The Voice"❤❤..... but John never lost that upper range❤.. Don't often hear a guy of this age going THAT high, not falsetto, I just been blown so hard that I now need a nap.
Wow, just Wow. What voice can match this?! Amazing, Uplifting, Unbeatable. Thank You John Farnham.
Has there been a better cover version ever? One of Cold Chisel's best songs (RIP Steve Prestwich) + Farnham at the Sydney Opera House = Awesomeness 😊.
WTF is wrong with the 86 people who gave this a thumbs down? Seriously? Fun banter, followed by proof that he is the greatest living male pop vocalist. You people must be tone deaf.
Chin D'awares or jealous.
Wow...Wow...Wow...!! John's voice is stunning and the band is phenomenal!
I only heard of John Farnham today, love his voice.
cant imagine a better live vocal performance from anyone absolutely beautiful
John Farnham- much beloved son of Australia. This song was used to a poignant film clip from the Ukraine war- I play it often and do have tears for the emotion it brings. Thank you so much for ALL the beauty you have bought us John, be well. *Been to many concerts. CY of SA.
amazing pipes on this guy
You are an absolute champion Johnny ... Thankyou for singing for us
I saw a comment by a David Wright "that suit doesn't look tailored" Really?? Who cares if it isn't. Do you go to, or watch a concert to look at their fashion or do you go there, or watch and listen to the performers?? Yes he has said he is retiring a few times, So What? If he is up to it, if he gets the crowds and can continue to sing this well, So what let him perform. A voice like that for a bloke of his age... I defy anyone to do better at his age!
Who the heck is David Wright?
Nothing wrong with retiring and coming back. I do it most years playing Cricket. My club calls me Johnny Farnham. No one believes me anymore but aches and pains and all saddling up again in October for my 45th year at my club. He is a true Legend and hope he keeps going so long as his health lets him!
Wow. I never really appreciated Mr Farnham's showmanship previously. One amazing version of a classic
Jeez. John Farnham is either an Angel sent from heaven to bless humanity or a demon sent from hell to mock human efforts at singing!
John Farnham is definately one of the best, if not the best singer australia currently has in both tone and power! He is one of the only performers I have seen scare the sound tech off their seat with a note so powerful his mic was at an arms length!! Listen at 7:07! Power and emotion :'D
This song is one of the most outstanding songs singed by John Farnham, He´s got one of the most incredible voices i´ve ever heard. Simply amazing.
john give his everything for this song every time

I have been a fan of JF since I was first introduced to him in LRB and this song was one of my favourite songs by LRB but I have to say this live performance of this has blown me away. I am amazed by this man's talent. What a song! What a voice!
Not a LRB song! Cold Chisel song, check it out, even better!
MRDARKTURKEY I listened to the Cold Chisel version. It's a nice version of the song. I read they did it in 1982. It was on LRB's album, No Reins, in 1986.
+Dan M That's true it was back when Farnham was the lead singer of LRB.
One thing you might know that all these other comments don’t is Glenn Shorrocks voice, Glenn Fry from the Eagles watched him sing cool change live, he cried & stated it was the best voice he’d ever heard, John had competition.
Keep singing John !! Never get tired of hearing that voice.Greetings from Budapest.
Awesome guitar run in the middle at 5:58. Vocal run by John Farnham is amazing from 6:50 to 7:50. I wish he'd try LRB's "We Two" in later years. That'd be great to see again.
Phenomenal guitar 🎸
that guy in the crowd that picked it though. Good for him, what a champion
Probably because John mentioned that the song was written by Steve Prestwich. I think When the War is Over is the only song John sings that Prestwich wrote.
Rip steve. You created ALOT of peoples favourite songs including mine.
Farnham u are incredible.
Love John. Amazing Singer. Come back and amaze us again John.
Good golly, those high notes are spectacular! Beautiful timbre.
It was beautiful to see Lisa Edwards in the audience too!!! I loved him singing this live :D
And Kate Ceberano was right behind her.
